Yesterday, an 8-button KPL no longer has back-lighting for buttons. The buttons still control but are no longer back-lit. A 6-button KPL in another room functions normally

Firmware: 4.9.0

UI: 4.9.0

ISY 994i Pro

OS Ventura 13.4.1

Java version 8 Update 381

Deleted all three items in cache

The PLM is old.

I would start with a factory reset and then restore from ISY.

It worked. Pleae accept my thanks. I have been using the ISY and Insteon devices a very long time, but I am getting old and finding system maintenance more and more difficult.

Unfortunately, I wrote too quickly. After a factory reset and restoration the button for devices light and I thought the problem was solved. However, a press of that button or any of the others does nothing. I have since done another reset and restoration with the same outcome. Fortunately, I can still control the devices with Alexa. I am wondering if I may have a bad PLM. Any thoughts for next steps?

If the restore progressed without errors, then the PLM must be good.  Can you query the device from ISY?  You might try completely deleting the device from ISY, factory reset, then re-create the scenes from scratch.  Be sure to document all the scenes exactly.  I take screen shots of all the scenes to help with that.

Further info. I accessed the kpl using the loX Finder. Received, "Failed communication with. Canot communicate, please check communications". All buttons now display red exclamation points.

How could I confirm that a restoration completed without errors?

During the restore process it would give you a similar error if it failed to write to the device.  Your KPL might just be bad, but again, I would try totally deleting the KPL from ISY, then factory reset, then add it back to ISY as if it were a new device.

I am running into a time crunch since this is a vacation home and I am leaving soon. Plus, as I noted, my abilities have become limited with age. First, how do I delete the KPL from my ISY. Then, how do I add it back. I know how to restore it. I checked by resources and I have three 6-button KPLs but no 8-button. I may have one at my primary residence, but I won't know un5il I get there.

You just right click the primary node for the KPL in the main tree on the left of the main screen in the admin console and click delete.  Then you factory reset as per usual.  The you add it back per the normal routine.  Put ISY into Insteon linking mode and push the little set button on the device.

I did as directed and the device tree repopulated, however, the buttons will light when pressed but the desired action does not occur.
