Very stable for a long time, now errors XML Parse Error

I have a 99i with firmware 2.7.14.

Socket Open Failed java.netSocketTimeoutException

XML Parse Error http://MyELKIPaddress:PORT/desc

THis has been occurring in the previous firmware as well which was stable forever, but become unstable and I cleared caches and upgraded the firmware with no change. I have to power cycle the 99i and it runs for a couple days and then it stops.

There is no complicated programming, it is just controlling my EZ Rain and just 1 appliance linc. And living in AZ makes the EZ Rain reliability crucial, especially as summer approaches.

Thanks!

Hello geekinc,

Is it really your ELK IP address or your ISY IP address? If ELK IP address, then it means that your router is either assigning the same IP to both ISY and ELK or that either one of these devices are sharing the same IP address.

Can you try unplugging M1XEP and see if you still have this issue?

With kind regards,

Michel

Michel,

Thanks always for the quick replies, your customer service is second to none!

No they are both static ips.

Elk xx.xx.xx.9:2601

ISY xx.xx.xx.10:7972

Nothing has changed other than it is no longer stable. I should mention that I have the Elk programmed to turn on the ApplianceLinc through the F1 button for 30min, which is used frequently, and F2 to turn off in case we don't need to run the pump 30min.

I will unplug the M1XEP if you think it will make a difference.

Cheers,

Isaac

Hi Michel,

My ISY is getting to the point where it is very unstable. Since it is controlling my EZRain, and since I live in Arizona, it is super critical that this get resolved.

I need to reboot it almost everyday, and now that is not remedying all issues.

  • 1. It locks up and is unreachable via browser. I am never given the option to log in, just get the previously listed parsing errors.

    2. I need to physically reboot it. I usually do this by unplugging the ethernet cable supplying power from the PLM.

    3. When I try logging back in, I am not given an option to log in, I must go to the file menu, click login, then close both windows, and reconnect to the ISY before I can get back in.

    4. Now, I can access the MAIN and CONFIGURATION tabs, but the program tabs are inaccessible. I am unable to choose them.

    5. On the first EZRain switch, I am unable to modify the options(run time), all other valves work fine. On the first one, it never writes to the EZRain, the popup window never comes up.

    6. I have completely reset the ISY to factory settings by holding the reset button until it flashed quickly, and set it up from scratch, NOT using a restore. And I used a different IP address, currently DHCP, and did not setup the ELK to talk to the ISY.

    7. I am using Mac OS 10.6.4 with the latest Firefox and Safari browsers and iPhone clients to access the ISY, when it works.

I hope that clarifies things. You can also connect via the web if you want. Just let me know and I'll PM or email my address.

F.42.9Bv7A/Connected is what I get at the moment, but it is working at the moment. I can be sure that by tomorrow it will be 'stuck' again. Also, I still cannot Set Options for controlling valve number 1. It simply ignores the command and does not write to the EZRain.

Hello geekinc,

Thanks so very much for the update. As far as EZRain, please note that we never officially supported this device. This said, however, during the past month and with tremendous help from LeeG, we have finally gotten rid of all the quirks in the communications with EZRain devices. We now have release 2.8.0 which is in pre alpha phase and if you are interested AND you have the latest EZRain firmware (which fixes some memory access issues) then please send an email to tech@universal-devices.com and we'll send you the link to download.

With kind regards,

Michel

Michel,

Thanks for the quick replies!

I know all the quirks of using the EZRain with the ISY, BUT it has been working, and has been very stable until two or three months ago. Almost 2 years of stable behaviour. Now I notice that the program in the ISY has not run due to plants showing noticeable water stress, and when I try to login to the ISY, I am confronted with errors that do not allow me to login, so I must reboot the ISY and then everything works fine for a few days or so, and the cycle repeats itself. The issue with the valve not writing the Set Option has only occured in the past two days. It had not occurred before. Now I do not know if the PLM or EZRain devices are failing and causing the ISY to hang, or if the ISY is failing, but something is happening.

In regards to the EZRain having the latest firmware, is that something I can do, or is it required I buy the latest device?

Thanks again.

Hello geekinc,

I understand.

EZRain firmware update requires you to send it to SHN for an update to the firmware.

Question: the program that you mentioned has not run, does ISY show the last run time? If so, is it correct? If it's correct in combination with the fact that you cannot change the timeout value for EZrain, points to INSTEON communication issues. The fact that you get XML parse errors and your program summary/detail tabs do not show, point to a faulty PLM. So, at the moment, I have to conclude there's something wrong with the PLM.

With kind regards,

Michel

How do I test the PLM?

If I reset the ISy without reseting the PLM, everything works fine for a while.

I was able to login with no issues for the last 36 hours or so, but now it just sits there, no errors, and no login window. On Safari, the login option is gray, but in IE in Windows 7, the option is not gray, but it will not pop up the login window, and again no errors. Also, even though the choices are there, I was not able to test the PLM, or generate a log dump.
