Wayne Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I have an Actiontec DSL modem/router connected to a Belkin switch. I can see all the pc's in my network places but not the ISY (My lighting). Also the Belkin shows green lights for all the pc's connected to it but no light for the ISY. The ISY has the 2 blinking lights where the ethernet cable is plugged in. and the power adapter for the ISY also has a blinking light. My DSL modem/router has DHCP enabled. Hide icons for upnp devices is showing in my netork places. The white light on the PLM is lit. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Wayne
sloop Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 did you set up the port forwarding? there are some screen shots here of my port porwarding rule - at the bottom of this page http://mysite.verizon.net/respkm62/sloo ... asterplan/
upstatemike Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 When you say there is no green light on the Belkin switch for the ISY, are you talking about the link light? Are you saying that you do not have a good cable connected between the switch and the ISY?
MikeB Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Port forwarding is only needed to access the ISY-26 from outside the LAN. Like UpstateMike said - there should be a light on the Belkin switch indicating that the port you have the ISY-26 plugged into has a good connection. If it's not lit, something is wrong. You said the lights near the ethernet jack on the ISY-26 were blinking - is it a consistent on/off repeating pattern, or is it random flashing? Try a new cable between the ISY-26 and your switch if possible. If that doesn't help, try plugging the ISY-26 directly into the router instead, bypassing the switch. See if you get a good connection there.

But I am just trying to view My Lighting while on my home network. Wayne

Are you saying that you do not have a good cable connected between the switch and the ISY? That is correct. No link lite on the Belkin switch where the ISY is plugged in. I tried 3 different ethernet cables. Wayne

Wayne Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Port forwarding is only needed to access the ISY-26 from outside the LAN. Thats what I thought. Like UpstateMike said - there should be a light on the Belkin switch indicating that the port you have the ISY-26 plugged into has a good connection. If it's not lit, something is wrong. No link light is on. You said the lights near the ethernet jack on the ISY-26 were blinking - is it a consistent on/off repeating pattern, or is it random flashing? It's a pretty consistent blink. 2 blinks, 2 blinks, 2 blinks 3 blinks then repeats that sequence. Try a new cable between the ISY-26 and your switch if possible. If that doesn't help, try plugging the ISY-26 directly into the router instead, bypassing the switch. See if you get a good connection there. I will try going directly to the router. The only problem is that it only has one ethernet port so I have that plugged into the uplink port on the Belkin switch, so one I unplug it and plug in the ISY I won't have internet access. Although I understand that is just temporary while I do some testing. Wayne
Wayne Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Worked with Mike, via e-mail to isolate the problem. It turns out that I have a defective unit. When cycling the power (rebooting) none of the lights on the unit ever come on (tx, rx, etc). I have contacted Smarthome for a RMA number to return for replacement. Thanks to all of you that replied. I would also like to thank Mike for such a quick response the PM tha I sent him. He had the trouble isolated in about 3 emails and about 20 minutes total. I guess it was a wise choice to get the ISY. One of the main reasons I opted for one was because of all that I had read about the excellent tech support. I will post again when I get my replacement. Thanks again, Wayne
Michel Kohanim Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Wayne, My pleasure and I am so sorry that you had to go through this. Happy Thanksgiving! Wayne Posted December 3, 2007 Author Posted December 3, 2007 Sent my ISY-26 back to Smarthome for a replacement. They received it on 11-27. Hopefully I'll have my replacement by friday. I have 7 Keypadlinks and about 15 Switchlinks along with various X10 stuff. I am really looking forward to being able to view and edit my links. The manual method of linking is so tedious. I have also ordered a mini sd wifi card so that I can connect to the ISY from my Pocket PC while lounging on the couch. I figured I might as well make use of all the options the ISY has to offer. I can remember when all I wanted was to be able to monitor and turn off lights to save a little electricity and now here I am considering buying an insteon compatible Elk-M1 to replace my current alarm system. Anyway, I just thought I would post an update. Wayne
Michel Kohanim Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Wayne, Thanks for the update and I do hope you'll receive ISY as quickly as possible. Please keep us posted with your progress. Wayne Posted December 6, 2007 Author Posted December 6, 2007 Unfortunately I have been notified by SH that they are out of stock on the ISY-26 untill 12/17/07. What a drag, I was really looking forward to getting to know ISY-26 this weekend.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Wayne, A very large shipment was just sent to them and they should be able to fulfill your order much sooner than 12/17. Brignolo Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Wayne: This may sound too simple...BUT, it's happend to me. "Usually when something does not work, it's either not plugged in...Or not turned on." Try swapping out your ethernet cable between your ISY and router. Joe

Joe Joe, Worked with Michel from UDI to isolate the problem. When cycling the power (rebooting) none of the lights on the unit ever come on (tx, rx, etc). I know I had power because the lights on the power adapter were lit as well as the ethernet lights were flashing. I had aslo tried multiple ethernet cables. Wayne

When I ordered my ISY, SmartHome's web site showed out of stock - but Michel knew and told me that they had some there. It shipped promptly. If Michel says they're there, then I'd say they're there.

Wayne Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 Just thought I would post an update. I got an e-mail from SH on 12-7-07 notifying me that I should receive my ISY on 12-10-07. I'm sure looking forward to tinkering with it.
Wayne Posted December 11, 2007 Author Posted December 11, 2007 I received my replacement ISY today but I now have a new problem. I sent back the serial to ethernet cable that came with the PLM back to smarthome with the old ISY by accident. Does anyone know the pinout for that cable? I have spare serial cables and the tools to make ethernet cables. So I could cut the end off one of those serial cables and terminate an RJ45 end onto it.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Wayne, This is so ... Here you go: On the RJ45 side: Pin 1 = RX (Receive from PLM) Pin 2 = 12V DC Pin 7 = GND Pin 8 = TX (Transmit to PLM) On the RS232 Side Pin 2 - RX (from PLM) Pin 3 - TX (to PLM) Pin 5 - Ground So, what you should have is RJ45RS232 1 3 8 2 7 5 Here's the link to serial cable pinouts: http://www.zytrax.com/tech/layer_1/cabl ... _rs232.htm MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE FEMALE DB9 PINOUT. If this doesn't work, simply swap pins 2 and 3 are retry. With kind regards, Michel I received my replacement ISY today but I now have a new problem.
