dronning Posted February 3 Posted February 3 I will leave my ISY994IR with my current house which is all Insteon but I’m open to suggestions, Zwave, other. Should I even consider transferring all the switches to the new home.
Techman Posted February 4 Posted February 4 For the new house: an EISY with the Zmatter dongle. That way you'll have the latest and best technology. If your devices in your old house are older then you would be better off with new devices which would have hardware and firmware updates..
jec6613 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 You can consider bringing them, but how old are they? There is a line, 2015-ish I think, after which Insteon started using new power supplies and reliability got much better. Also, the new devices have much more consistent plastics, if that's something that matters to you. Z-Wave is an option, but I have yet to have a good experience with Z-Wave and lighting once the network size crawls above about 40-ish. For everything else where response time isn't nearly as critical, Z-Wave is a wonderful system, and I have about 60 some Z-Wave devices, on top of my 100+ Insteon ones. For lighting today, I'd look at either Lutron Caseta, or just jump back into Insteon, possibly with some of their new i3 products. And like @Techman says, an eisy with the ZMatter (and PLM if you go back to Insteon) should be top of your list for controllers. Familiar interface, but much more capability to connect to different devices.
lilyoyo1 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) @bpwwerwas able to get radio Ra 3 switches working with the caseta nodeserver so Lutrons Ra3 Sunnata line would be an option. The hybrid Keypads main load can also work but not the additional buttons Edited February 5 by lilyoyo1
glacier991 Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I would second Tech man's advice. Z wave is variable somewhat depending on the manufacturer, but getting better all the time. I just built a new eisy system from the ground up. I wasted some time trying to integrate older devices. I do have a mix of systems though, even including some X10. Still, take your time, make sure everything works as you want at each step, and mainly consider newer versions of devices, especially Z Wave devices.
