Access Points

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I started with my new ISY back in December, got all devices and some basics set up as I had time and fooled around a little with all of the features to get to know how things work.

Anyway, a couple months ago, i had some problems with my network and found the cause to be a switch that had gone bad. I removed the switch and had to remove some devices including the ISY for a few weeks until I had time to get a new one and get everything back up and running.

After getting new switch and reconnecting ISY, I could not connect at all through admin console, nothing but a red light on device. After trying everything, I decided to just restore to factory settings and reload a backup. This seemed to fix that problem. I noticed after a few days, i was no longer getting any email notifications. Had no time to look into it until a few more weeks passed. By this time, I see that new version .15 is out, so installed that successfully.

Things have settled down so time to get back to business on ISY. Everything seems to be working correctly except I cannot communicate with my RF devices. I have 2 Access Points (2443's) which worked fine before all of this started. I downloaded manuals and went through setup procedures, but still nothing. I can't remember if when I originally installed if they have to be added to the ISY somehow, or if they simply repeat the signals and are not needed to be known by ISY.

I have changed batteries on devices and tried everything I can think of to get this working with no luck. Any info anyone can provide would be appreciated, thanks.

The do not get added to ISY.

Just make sure the LED tests indicate proper communications and one is on each phase.

Rf devices have a power saver feature. You can not communicate with them unless you use the procedure to wake them up. Like RemoteLinc you hold the Bright and Dim buttons for about ten seconds and the LED flashes. Then you can program them or check the buttons links. Or did I misread your problem and RF device when triggered will not get back to the ISY?

Yes, cannot get back to ISY. I do not get any status on triggerlinks or motion sensors when they are on. Tried adding a motion sensor to a new scene to see if that would work too but no luck. Went through usual procedure of holding set to put in linking mode, ISY said it failed.

Both access points are in same locations as before when they were working with no problems. When a triggerlink opens, the light on access point blinks, so assume the signal is reaching there. I even moved ISY and PLM to different location with no luck.

Hi slopdog,

This is quite strange. What you want to do is to open the event viewer on level 3 and observe the traffic. Please also note that a blinking Access Point does not mean that the signal will get to the PLM or any other devices. It just means that it received "something".

Are these Access Points or SignaLincs (with antennas)?

With kind regards,

Michel

I do get status feed back from non RF devices. Tried a restore on motion sensor, get following in event viewer:

Not sure why it is showing as 13 EE 7C, address on MS is 11 AC CE. The L.2.andrew I think it is a bad switch, every time I start Admin console, i get message that it cannot communicate. I did restore on MS only, so not sure why that even showed up here.

Hello slopdog,

In 2.7.12 and above, ISY tries to synch up the devices with what it thinks they should have. That's why your defective switch is tried to be restored all the time. You might want to disable that device (right mouse click/Disable) to remove it from the list.

Now, it seems that the PLM cannot communicate with your motion sensor. Is it possible to put an Access Point right on top of the PLM, move the motion sensor to where the PLM is and retry? If this works, then the problem is signal strength.

With kind regards,

Michel

Well, I guess it would help if i put the right motion sensor in linking mode :) I had tried to do restore on wrong sensor. Once I tried with the right one, it did pick it up and restore. I can now see status update on that MS. Guess I will have to go to all RF devices and do a restore, looks like that will fix all of my problems being that it worked on this one. Thanks for all your help!
