Adding Matter Device to EISY

I have the EISY hub with the ZWave and ZMatter USB adapter. I have  Matter device that connects to Alexa. How do I add this device to EISY and can I use in my programs like a ZWave device?

Is full Matter support available yet?  I just upgrade packages, rebooted, etc. and I now have OS 14.1 as well as the option for Matter support that can be successfully activated on the configuration panel. I do not see a way to actually add a matter device and in the matter menu drop-down list, there are only options for "synchronize, network capture, log, and x-ray". Is there something else that needs to be done or has the full support of matter devices not yet been implemented?Screenshot2025-02-10085253.thumb.png.0cd1fa3d7c98081ea45d0fae6a58e7e4.png

It's out? (here comes the storm!)

Well it was mentioned in the announcement that adding devices could be done from the mobile application. Maybe that's the only way (for now?).

UD Mobile was actually the first thing I tried (based on the instructional video for adding Matter devices) but this also lacks an option of adding a Matter device. I don’t have the same screens come up as on the instructional video. My UD Mobile version is 1.1.88 and I always thought this just updated either automatically or when you synchronized. My iOS is version 5.9.1.

Sorry...IoX, not iOS

I just tried upgrading packages and firmware on my test controller (Polisy) and it still says OS13.1 and IoX 5.8.4. Maybe you requested to be part of a test group?

That is interesting. I do not recall making a formal request, but I did have a support ticket on an unrelated item about a week ago and I believe Michel did upgrade some files. I wonder if these (14.1/5.9.1) were installed before they were to be released in a general update package. I hadn’t tried to add a Matter device until today, so I probably would not have noticed if the Matter drop-down menu was there or if there was an option to turn on Matter support in the configuration tab. I may just give things another week or so but happy to hear if anyone has more success.

The mention of 5.9.1 has popped up a few times recently, so having UDI work directly on your system is probably the reason. The last missing piece is probably just days away.

Hopefully. I bought a couple of TAPO wireless dimmer switches, but these connect through a TAPO hub and the TAPO hub doesn’t seem to be supported by even the beta version of the Kasa plug-in or through IFTTT. There is probably some sort of work around but the TAPO hub instructions indicate it could be added to "Matter compatible ecosystems", so I was hoping to be able to utilize this. Thanks for the suggestions.

So we're ALPHA Testers now?

30 years of programing and NEVER did we EVER release ALPHA to public testing.

This has got to be the worst investment I have ever dumped money into.

Which brands are the perfect ones? Any lists?

Well, this is an added functionality, so no real impact on existing systems. Add to that the fact that the eisy is very much a techie oriented device, and even more for forum participants. Several of us are more than happy to jump in and learn Matter at the same time.

Kasa/TP-Link Matter + Energy Monitoring for starters.
The eISY App can't read the QRC Codes, can't enter the ID manually, Kasa Plugin via Polly doesn't pass Matter Device through to be used as Wi-Fi so eISY can't even use them. I'm down to either moving to Home Assist as the Primary Development Platform or wait another year for UD to release a Beta version. Yeah the whole wait a year isn't going to happen. I have 20 new matter devices that won't work and need to make a final decision on what platform to move forward on and it needs to be made soon. Even Samsung SmartThings detected the Matter Devices that needed to be paired without even touching a button. That's even made it look worse...

Home automation continues to be a "techie" world in spite of the advertising moniker "smart home". UD has been one of the more reliable controllers through the X10, Insteon and Z Wave eras. Matter is another attempt at industry standardization but as we've seen with other technologies, they seldom get it to the point where it no longer requires technical knowledge.

I replaced all the X10 devices with Insteon and then with Z wave. Each generation improved. I've tested Matter and it appears fine using other apps to control it but not sure its noticeably better than Z Wave. I do look forward to UD supporting Matter.

I was big into energy monitoring years back, (spent a lifetime in the energy field)  but now we have LED lighting and it is cheaper to leave a light on 24 x 7 than to purchase a smart home controller for the bulb.

Make sure you are actually moving forward and let us know how it goes. If there is better out there, people will want to know about it.
