jukeman Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago This is an FYI for the team: I just purchased an Insteon 2477S (on/off switch) brand new (version 8.4 3324), and manually set it up in my eisy. After setup, it worked, however the STATUS on the eisy would NOT change when it was manually switched on or off. I tried a second new 2477S, and received the same results. After a bit of reading, and some trial and error, I found that if I "Restore" the device, the status updates perfectly when the switch is manually activated. This is a strange phenomenon, and it is my first two 2477S devices that I have ever used. Maybe I'm all wrong, but I surely did not expect this to happen when manually adding the on/off switch. As another check, I manually linked an On/Off Module 2635 with no issues at all. Quote
Techman Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago If it worked after a restore device then it means that the link tables in the device were incorrect. A restore device writes the link tables that are stored in the eisy back to the device. When you added the device you may have had a communication issue, i.e. noise on the powerline or poor communications between the PLM and the device that corrupted the device link tables. 2 Quote
jukeman Posted 21 hours ago Author Posted 21 hours ago That's a good thought, and I surely cannot dispute your statement, but TWO devices of the same device type, within 3-feet of the PLM, and no other devices are acting wonky? I can accept your explanation and will keep an eye open for future oddities. Additionally, I'm happy to learn that the link table is re-written to the PLM upon a restore. It's always nice to learn more deep detail about the eisy and it's use. Although I've had my ISY and now an eISY in place since March 2018, I still consider myself a novice user - Once devices are added and programs are set up; I generally perform a backup and just let it roll till the next change. Thank you! Quote
paulbates Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago This does happen with Insteon from time to time per @Techman's explanation. In my experience keypads and the old togglincs tend to be the biggest culprits, sometimes needing a restore device every few years. Another factor is sometimes new devices come from the factory needing to be factory reset. You may have had 2 from a production run where this was the case. Quote
Techman Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago @jukeman A restore device writes the link tables to the device not the PLM A restore PLM writes all the link tables stored in the EISY to the PLM (not to the devices). You can verify/compare the link tables in a device by clicking on TOOLS | DIAGNOSTICS | SHOW DEVICES LINKS TABLE. After the table populates click on "compare" which will compare the links stored in a device with the links store in the EISY. If you have a mismatch then do a restore device. 1 Quote
