Program for backup sump pump warning

Featured Replies

I appreciate any help and ideas. I have a backup sump pump in place in case the primary one fails. I hooked up a YoLink plug that monitors energy usage to the backup sump pump, and I'm using the YoLink nodeserver.

I think I can figure out how to send a message when the backup sump pump goes off, but how do I write a program that won't trigger every single time the pump fires?

Thanks.

There are options that include timers and/or state variables. What's needed is:

  • How do you define how often you do (or don't) want to know?
  • How is the program triggered?

I use a yolink plug in a similar way to monitor my dryer so it turns on the room vent fan when the dryer is used, based on configuring a yolink alarm state when the current draw of the dryer is sensed... Is that what you're doing?

Can you post your program if you have one?

Hi,

Maybe once an hour is plenty. It would be triggered by detecting a power draw from the pump--I was thinking if a certain amount of wattage is detected. This sounds similar to how you use the plug for your dryer, but the difference is that the pump goes off every few minutes at times.

What you could do (psuedo code)

program 1

If sump pump activated

Then:

  Send notification

   Run program 2

Program 2

(No if)

Then

   Disable program 1

   Wait 1 hour

   Enable program 1
