Keypadlinc LED Brightness After Restore Device

Featured Replies

There is a interesting situation that I am trying to fix.

I used the ISY-99 to "restore device" to the keypadlincs in my home. After the restore, the button LEDs were off when the button is off - not the same previous light level prior to the restore. The light level of the buttons when ON has also been changed to be much dimmer. I tried the "LED brightness" button to adjust the LED levels, but it only worked for 3 KPLs out of the 7 KPLs that are installed.

The 3 KPLs that work show up as "V.2D" in the ISY-99. The ones that do not work show up as "V.00" in the ISY-99. The firmware versions of the KPLs vary, ranging from 1.4 thru 2.4. There is at least one that does not work at KPL FW ver 1.8, and two that do work are also at KPL FW ver 1.8.

Any ideas on how to fix? Would like to do this from the ISY-99 rather than from the kedpads directly.

Thanks.

Likely cannot be "fixed" from ISY. Different KPL revisions have different memory maps and although I have no specific information about background LED intensity, the different KPL revisions account for the differences you are seeing. Refer to the User Guide (on line with link from Smarthome sales page for KPL) for the particular revision level for setting the background LED level. It may vary by KPL revision level so if the technique in a User Guide does not work it is probably the wrong technique for that KPL revision.

Hi kevinbgibson,

The reason backlight does not work on the other KPLs is because, apparently, those devices were added using a specific type (Add INSTOEN Device and NOT choosing Auto Discover).

If this is really important, then the only way to see if those devices support backlight is to remove them from ISY and use either of the following methods:

1. Start Linking

2. Add INSTEON Device using Auto Discover

Please note KPL versions below 2D do NOT support backlight.

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks for the replies. Does this mean that KPL FW versions of less than some version will only show up in the ISY-99 as V.00 and the backlight updates will not work? Is it known which KPL FW version starts showing V.2D in the ISY-99?

Thanks

Hi kevinbgibson,

v00 means that ISY was instructed to assume a device type and thus didn't request for the firmware version. To get the actual firmware version, you will have to remove that device from ISY and either use Start Linking or Add New INSTEON Device | Auto Discover.

Firmware versions below 2D do not support backlight adjustments.

With kind regards,

Michel

Shouldn't the UI then not show the LED BRIGHTNESS button at the bottom of the screen, when users click on a device that is a firmware rev less than .2D, since LED brightness cannot be adjusted?

Hello cartwrig,

Yes, but the main issue was that between different releases of 2A and 2D some did actually support this feature and thus there was no easy way for us to determine which one didn't.

With kind regards,

Michel
