I have an Insteon RemoteLinc Model 2440 for which I have lost the label that indicates its Insteon address (###:###:###). If I put fresh batteries in it and hold down one of the 6 Scene buttons to activate it, will the eisy/IoX program recognize the device and its address?

The usual trick for missing labels is to put admin console in linking mode. This is Link Management -> Add a Remotelinc. You will then get a box telling you to put the device in linking mode. (press Dim and Bright). Once the device is detected, you'll be able to see it's device ID.

Guy, I found the address label inside the battery compartment. When I follow your instructions getting both the Admin Console and the RemoteLinc into linking mode, I get a message saying The following devices could not be added. It shows the address and model number, and says "Cannot determine Insteon Engine." How do I fix this?

Add information

"Cannot determine Insteon Engine." means that the PLM is unable to communicate with the device.

Either your're entering the wrong address, or the device is out of range of the PLM or the device is not in the linking mode.

What address are your using for the device?

Wee if you found the address you can try manual linking, by going into Link Management -> New Insteon A10/X10 device. You'll get a box where you can then enter the address, and click on OK (you might need to expand the window to see the OK). But if it detects the device and gives you that error message, the device isn't linking for some reason.

I will add, you can actually get that message when the Remotelinc is too close to the PLM. I used to have to step out into my courtyard to add them. Just another thing to try.

Following your suggestions, I decided to try to add the RemoteLinc using a different computer and in a different location. Low and behold, IT WORKED!!!

Insteon works mysterious ways!

I also found my 2440 original RemoteLinc. Would not link if close to the PLM. I had to put it into the linking mode located at the other end of the home. So the PLM had use a different Insteon dual band device using that devices RF.
