2420 Sensor status not recognized in programs

Greetings,

I have a number of 2420M's (v2.0) that I'm trying to use on my ISY99IR-Pro version 2.8.10. I can use the sensor status to link in scenes but when writing programs, the IF lines do not recognize the status change. Any suggestions?

I am not a user of the motion sensor, but I understand that there are settings to allow or disable sending an "off" command. Is it possible that your sensor is set to transmit only "on" signals?

Well if I link them to a device as a "scene" they send both on and off. However if I try to signal a program the ISY doesn't see any status change. It doesn't appear that the MS needs to be in linking in mode when saving a program. I've also tried saving the sensor on/off as a scene, but it doesn't appear that a scene can be used as a condition in a program.

Using the Admin Console, does the Sensor node show On/Off status as the Motion Sensor detects motion and then times out after the delay.

If the Admin Console is not reflecting the motion sensor activity, Programs will not work either as both are dependent on the ISY PLM being notified of motion detection.

Sounds like the Motion Sensor did not get installed completely for some reason. The motion sensor must be added using New INSTEON Device, specify the device Insteon Address and select Motion Sensor in the Device Type in the pulldown list. Of course the Motion Sensor must be in linking mode during this process.

Thanks Lee,

I have 6 Motion Sensors linked. I went through the manual process for adding them all (link management/add insteon device/2420 from the drop down). I cleared all links and they were recognized without any errors. They all show on the main devices page and I can link them as "scenes" with any other device, switchlink, etc.

You can verify that Insteon messages are not being received by the PLM by bring up the Event Viewer with Device Communication Events selected and watch for messages when the MS signals motion. Since the Admin Console is not reflecting status changes I assume you will not see Insteon messages from the MS in the Event Viewer.

Since the MS is controlling other linked devices, one of the following is wrong

1 - the MS link database does not have the controller link record pointing to the ISY PLM

2 - the ISY PLM link database does not have the responder link record for the MS

3 - if both link records exist the MS Insteon message is not reaching the ISY PLM.

Once the Event Viewer is showing Insteon messages from the MS both the Admin Console will show motion state changes and the Program will be triggered.

Are all the motion sensors failing to show state changes in the Admin Console or only the one the Program should respond to. If they are all failing there is some significant issue getting RF based messages to the ISY PLM.

EDIT: I am assuming that other device state changes are being reflected in the Admin Console.

Rand,

Im using Norton360 with the firewall disabled. If I log into the ISY from a different computer I'm not receiving the error messages. However, on the main devices page there is no status shown for any device. I've selected 'restore devices' from the file menu and nothing happens. Also, I've tried removing a device and adding a device. After hitting Submit the ISY just doesn't respond.

Hello jpwolfe,

Please do ensure that ISY is in Norton's white/trusted list of devices.

This is for sure firewall issue and, therefore, please do not take such drastic measures as factory reset, etc.

With kind regards,

Michel
