keylinc sick

This is a 2486D v.3v keylinc, configured for 8 button operation. ISY is latest beta, 3.1.2.

Today discovered that several of the buttons, although they would respond to a keypress, did not communicate their status to ISY. The other buttons worked fine.

I did an air gap, factory reset, and restored the switch from ISY. Same thing.

I thought perhaps it had switched into 6 button mode, so factory reset with button 1 & 8 pressed, then restore. No change.

I had noticed the other day that this keylinc had not responded to an LED brightness command, the next day it did so I didn't think much more of it.

I am thinking the keylinc is failing and needs to be replaced. Any other suggestions?

As part of the above procedure, I restored twice. Should I try it again?

When some KPL buttons presses are reflected to the ISY but not others there is a link record problem. Since the restore of the KPL did not resolve the problem a File | Restore Modem (PLM) is the next corrective action to take. This process can take a long time as all devices are referenced including the sleeping RF devices and all the links in the PLM are restored

The alternative to Restore Modem (PLM) is to delete the KPL and add it back to the ISY. This requires removing the KPL from all Programs and Scenes and manually restoring those references after the KPL is added to the ISY.

Lee,

The remove device technique would be pretty complicated, given what it controls.

So I guess the restore PLM is the better option. What happens with the RF devices? If the process takes a long time, then you can't just wake up the devices at the beginning, as they will likely time out.

Otherwise, does the process hang while it waits, and then you go and wake up each device in question, in turn, with the set button?

The process does not stop. There will be pending actions against the RF devices that can be resolved individually after the Restore Modem (PLM) completes. Put an RF device into linking mode, then right click on node and select Query. That will start any pending activity against the device. The pain is that means pulling down the motion sensors to get to the Set button.

Do not pull down any of the motion sensors unless there is pending activity when the Restore is complete. I ran a Restore Modem (PLM) yesterday checking for something else and generated a 62K event trace file. I just ran another Restore Modem (PLM) and generated a 29K event trace. I did not wake any of the RF devices this time in an attempt to confirm the green pending Icon indicator and the ISY did not attempt to physically write anything to devices other than the PLM. Not sure what caused the ISY to generate so much device activity yesterday and so little today but the good news is the RF devices may not have any pending activity when the Restore is finished.

OK, tried that.

It ran for a bit with the module dialogs, then a reset PLM. There are no pending writes, not even for the RF devices, as you saw.

Unfortunately, the Keylinc in question still does not work.

I tried running File|Restore PLM again, it ran very briefly only, then reset the PLM.

Again, Keylinc in question still not working, in the identical fashion, several of the keys do not comm to ISY.

Any thoughts?

I do have a spare keylinc, may try replacing it. Doing so, it will be a little easier to retain all the program and device links, yet still force as refresh of all the PLM links in the (replaced) device -- your option #2.

In a Show Device Links Table for the KPL look for 8 Controller link records ...

E201xx xx xx .. .. ..

E202xx xx xx .. .. ..

E203xx xx xx .. .. ..

E204xx xx xx .. .. ..

E205xx xx xx .. .. ..

E206xx xx xx .. .. ..

E207xx xx xx .. .. ...

E208xx xx xx .. .. ..

where xx xx xx is the Insteon address of the PLM. The second byte is the KPL button number 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08 (assuming an 8 button KPL).

In a Show PLM Links Table there should be 8 responder link records .....

A201yy yy yy .. .. ..

A202yy yy yy .. .. ..

A203yy yy yy .. .. ..

A204yy yy yy .. .. ..

A205yy yy yy .. .. ..

A206yy yy yy .. .. ..

A207yy yy yy .. .. ...

A208yy yy yy .. .. ..

where yy yy yy is the Insteon address of the KPL. The second byte is the KPL button number 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08.

If these 16 link records (8 E2 records in the KPL and 8 A2 records in the PLM) are present than it is a KPL issue. I have never seen a KPL fail in this manor, assuming the KPL LEDs light up when a given button is pressed.

I expect that some of the link records are missing either in the KPL or the PLM or both. If some of the link records are missing after restoring the KPL and the PLM, the ISY has lost track of some of the records in which case deleting and adding the KPL is the only solution.

If this was originally a 6 button KPL that was converted to an 8 button KPL but added to the ISY as a 6 button KPL then 3 link records will be missing for 02, 07, 08. I would expect to see only 5 nodes defined if this is the case.
