New PLM

I was thinking of getting the Dual Band PLM to improve communication of my Insteon/ISY network.

Question the first: Can I switch the PLM that came with my ISY to the dual band?

Question B: Does anyone know of/experienced any improvement by moving to the dual band device?

Hello iostream212,

I have seen first hand the improvement in performance.

And, yes, you can replace your ISY's PLM with 2413S. Please note:

1. 2413S no longer provides power to ISY so you would need to a get a power supply (5-30v, 300 mA, 2mm barrel connector/center positive)

2. Reboot your ISY with the new PLM

3. If you have RF devices and if you have PRO series, make sure that the battery button is grayed out (this way ISY will not try to write to your RF devices; you will do them one at a time yourself)

4. Go to File | Restore Modem (PLM)

With kind regards,

Michel

If anyone is pondering this move please note that in addition to needing to add a external power supply for your ISY, you lose the extra power receptacle built into the old plm. Meaning old plm had "always on" 3 prong receptacle. New plm has nada. This is seriously cramping my wiring box with wall warts... On the other hand my system is running like butter since the change. Ps my power supply for the ISY puts out 1800 milliamps, but I see only 300 miliamps is needed. Should I find a power supply with less amperage?

No need to change power supplies. The 1800 is its max capacity. Perfectly fine to supply only 300.

Folks have speculated the lack of a passthru outlet is to avoid possible RF interference with the Dual Band function.
