Can't link 2856D2B (Icon lamp dimmer) V4.3

I'm trying to get an Icon lamp dimmer (2856D2B) to link via admin console / ISY99i.

I've tried automatic linking (I think -- "Start Linking", then I push the button on the side), and got nothing. Then I tried entering the address directly from "New Insteon Device" (used Auto Discover, as this model number isn't listed), but still nothing. I just get a dialog with:

Node not added - failed removing links (-2000000/-9).

No problem with my B2457D2's (dual-band lamp-lincs), but I can't find this ICON.

Not sure what to try?

That error normally means the ISY is not able to communicate with the device where it is currently located (plugged in in this case).

Try relocating the ICON Dimmer to the same circuit as the ISY PLM. I think the 2876DB Device Type can be used as it has the same characteristics as the pluggable device. It will not solve the communications problem.

If it works plugged into the ISY PLM circuit then there is some form of interference where it is currently located or perhaps it is on the opposite phase as the ISY PLM and phase coupling is not working as required.

Thanks Lee - yes, looks like the outlet i used has issues. Disappointing, as the x10 dimmer i had in the same outlet worked fine. I have a dual-band Insteon dimmer that worked well there too, guess I'll go back to that and rethink my layout.

Are the Icon dimmers inferior to the regular dimmers with regard to sensitivity?

Not that I am aware of. ICON cost has more to do with the amount of function (such as no adjustable ramp rate and sometimes support for fewer link records) and shorter warranty period. The PLM chip that all Insteon devices carry for powerline communication is the same for all wired devices.
