wth18359 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I am currently running Homeseer with the Smarthome 2414u PLC and the basic Insteon plug-in. I just purchased the ISY 99i with the 2413s PLM. I have a relatively small and simple Insteon configuration with about 20 devices. Can I keep the 2414u running as a backup as I install and configure the ISY with the 2413s, or do I need to completely remove the 2414u first? Will the two controllers step all over each other, or will they play nice? Once the ISY is fully functional, I will probably disable the Homeseer Insteon plug-in or at least disable any events in Homeseer, and use the Homeseer ISY plug-in for Homeseer to communicate with the ISY.

I'm been researching ISY-99i and have seen this a few times and am wondering why the need for Homeseer if you have an ISY-99i?
wth18359 Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 In my case, I am running Homeseer plug-ins for my DSC alarm, some one-wire thermometers, and a Brultech energy monitor system, so I will keep it for those. I've been told there are some Insteon functions HS can perform that the ISY can't, but I doubt I will need them. At this point, I just want to keep the HS PLC as a backup at least until I am sure the ISY is configured correctly.

Michel Kohanim Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Hello wth18359, I would not recommend it mostly because ISY does not know anything about it. What you might want to do instead is: 1. Register your devices using Remove existing links 2. Use the HomeSeer plugin for ISY (http://www.bobsplace.com/ISYInsteon/) This way, all INSTEON configuration/management is done via ISY while all ISY events are published to HomeSeer. With kind regards, Michel

Personally I would just ditch HS, having 2 controllers is just asking for complications. I don't know your exact configuration or models but the devices you listed can likely play nice with the ISY... DSCLink for the DSC, a CAI WebControl board and WCLink for the 1-wire, ISY Brultech Module for the Brultech.
ergodic Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 I run HS2 and the ISY, but I use the ISY plug-in for HS exclusively, no PLC/PLM is connected to HS. This setup actually works quite well IMO. The plug-in even exposes variables and program state, and has an API. As Michel said, the problem you'll have with your proposed configuration is that the two controllers won't necessarily know about each other's links or changes. With the ISY plug-in for HS, everything drives through the ISY so that isn't a problem. I'm not aware of any Insteon-specific functions in one vs. the other. The HS scripting model is easier to deal with for more complex logic, and HS of course supports a fairly broad array of other plug-ins for various technologies. And it is web-based, not Java. But it isn't a stand-alone device as is the ISY.
