IRLinc from Smarthome: Will ISY-26 Support it?

Michel, is UDI planning to add support for Smarthome's new IRLinc to an upcoming firmware release? I really hope so.

I realize that this product could be viewed as competition for your new ISY-99 line, but I think it's more of a functional complement to the ISY-26. One of the features I like most about the -26 is that since it is LAN-accessible, I can connect it wherever its PLM is most effective. Since the best place for an IR transceiver may not be the optimal place for the PLM, I like the flexibility of keeping the two functions physically separate.

And the prospect of getting my RemoteLinc - which looks like it was designed by Klingons, or maybe Borg - off my coffee table and returning to a one-remote setup is really appealing. -GA

Chris I think this may have been asked before, but can you say how it will appear in the ISY? Will it be like a big RemoteLinc or ControLinc or something?

Thx.

It is similar to ControlLinc, but you add buttons one at a time. Of course, once a button has been added you can drop it into a scene just like buttons on other devices. You can add more buttons at any time after that as well.

Network crawl is also supported, therefore the ISY can read in all the different buttons you have already programmed into your IRLinc.

Chris -

Sounds awesome!

Any idea what performance penalty there will be when using an IRLinc to trigger programs on the ISY?

I'm assuming native IR on the ISY-99 would be quicker.

Thanks Mike,

The delay for IRLinc events in programs would be roughly equivalent to that of any other insteon device buttons (eg. keypadLinc, switchLinc etc.).

Your assumption is correct, using the ISY-99 native IR in programs will have faster response time simply because we don't have to wait for the PLM to send us the event.

Hi Chris,

I assume the flow would be:

-Go into linking mode on the ISY (and on the IRLinc??)

-Press a remote button. Some kind of address shows up in the tree

-Press more remote buttons as needed.

-Exit linking, rename and use as needed.

Thanks.

jgraziano,

Your assumption is correct BUT please do make sure to follow the instructions on the screen as there are two steps:

1. IRLinc learns the remote button

2. ISY links to the group associated to that specific button on IRLinc

With kind regards,

Michel
