sanders2222 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Here is a real time testimonial for our folks at U-D. If you watched 'Breaking News', you already know the Northwest is in the middle of a nasty snow and ice storm. Over 100,000 people (& counting) have lost power. We're one of them. And it was a very unusual power outage in that only one leg of the power lines supply flickered on and off about 3 times before the one leg went out. After 10 minutes or so, the second leg went down so all power lines were lost. However, we do have a small natural gas backup generator. During the time that only one leg of the power was out, our electronics were going berserk. Our generator clicked on as it should but lights were flashing, the oven beeped and the plasma TV clicked continuously. The generator's transfer box also howled until both power legs went out. Then things went back to normal mode. And here is the testimonial part. "Hats off" to U-D for creating a solid system that holds up under such circumstances. Our ISY came back up under our generator and all lighting scenes and programing worked with out missing a heartbeat! WOW! The power outage situation also sets a pretty good benchmark for Insteon products as a whole and it's components are robust to survive all this. All 60 plus switches and devices I have came through all this with flying colors! Our TV even works on generator power now! I have to knock on wood and hold my breath a little but as the power lines are still out. While I have some surge protection outlets, I do not have whole home surge protection installed. I'm also in the middle of wiring in my new ELK M-1 so I am strongly considering adding UPS that connects the ELK, Modem, router and ISY.
