Official Release 3.1.17 Is Now Available

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Thanks to everyone who went through the 3.1.x Beta Cycle, I am happy to announce that 3.1.17 is now our official release. For a list of changes, please take a look at this post.

If you are already running 3.1.17, no other action is necessary.

For those new to 3.1.17, the most important features included in this release are:

1. Program Variables

2. ELk Module

3. Irrigation Module

4. Performance improvements

5. Support for Zigbee RCS Thermostats/Load Controllers and Brultech Energy Monitors in 994iZ Series

Important Information

1. Due to the sensitive nature of supporting MorningLinc/ELK Security Systems, users now must agree to terms and conditions upon Admin Console start up otherwise the dialog keeps popping up every time the Admin Console is started

2. Important If you have already installed a self signed certificate and your current firmware is 2.7.10 and below, you must reinstall a new one before the upgrade.

3. Please note that Network Resource modules are now running in their own task. This might have some ramifications as calling network resources from programs no longer waits for the resource to complete. As such, a) you will experience quicker handling of network resources/programs and B) if you are using DSCLinc and WebLinc, your programs may behave a little differently. Please do test your network resources thoroughly

4. Please note that Safari does not support SSL session reuse and thus might take an exorbitant amount of time to communicate with ISY. As such, when using 2048 bit SSL, it's best not to use Safari.

5. If you are using the Irrigation Module and are upgrading from releases prior to 3.1.5, you must edit the programs using Irrigation variables and save the programs again. Irrigation module is no longer on promotion

6. Upgrading from 3.1.3 and below: If you are using WeatherBug Module's Rain Today in your programs, please note that the precision has changed from 1/10 to 1/100 and thus your programs might not run properly

Instructions:

1. Please backup your ISY (File | Backup ISY). If you are backing up a 3.1.6 system, please note that the backups are corrupted. If you have a backup from prior releases, you should be OK

2. Please download the firmware for your platform - please do not unzip

ISY 99i Series

ISY 994i Series

3. Important (If upgrading from 2.8.5 through 2.8.14)

Due to invalid Java certificate chain, please make sure to remove all Universal Devices certificates from Java:

a. Close all browser sessions

b. Open Java Control Panel (Java Preferences on MAC)

c. Click on the Security tab. Remove all Universal Devices certificates (on MAC, click on the '-' button at the bottom)

e. Clear your Java Cache

4. Login to the Admin Console and choose Help | Manually Upgrade [the name of your system]

5. Choose the file saved in step 2

6. After the upgrade, ISY reboots. Please do ensure to clear your Java Cache

7. IMPORTANT Once upgrade is completed and ISY reboots, use any of the following methods to access your ISY's Admin Console:

a. 99/994i - http://isy/admin - applet (Windows only)

b. 99/994i - http://isy/admin.jnlp - Java application (Windows only)

c. http://your.isy.ip.address/admin - applet

d. http://your.isy.ip.address/admin.jnlp - Java application

e. http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/ - applet

f. http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/admin.jnlp - Java application

Dashboard - not fully supported

8. Please backup your system again

Thanks and with kind regards,

Michel

Hello jtara92101,

What firewall software do you have? You may want to use https and retry.

If your unit is rather old, then the problem might be a failing SD card. If you are still having problems, please do contact us and we'll be delighted to help you upgrade.

With kind regards,

Michel

No firewall software. I did a manual download to my Linux box, and did the upgrade from there. The only thing between the isy99 and the Linux box is a Gig-E switch, and no firewall on the Linux box. I do have a tap port set-up on the switch, so I could take a look with Wireshark if need be.

Not sure what you mean by "use https". I'm doing a local upgrade, it prompts for the file location. Should I attempt automatic upgrade?

Yes, it's a pretty old unit. There's no physical serial # on the unit. Can you tell from the UUID?

File System Status says total 125MB, used 14MB, bad 0B, free 79MB.

Any thing else I should look at?

Hello jtara92101,

Thanks so very much for the information.

I think the problem may be the SD Card itself as your unit is probably one from the first batch of 99is (128MB SD Card) ... that should be more than 3 years ago.

By using https I mean connecting to ISY using https and not http.

As long as your unit works, just keep an eye and when it stops working (you'll see a blinking error light) then simply change the SD Card. As long as you are on 3.1.17, you can use any SD Card up to 16GB.

With kind regards,

Michel

I have the current firmware version loaded. Now a kind of side question is I have a older ISY99. I've not checked the SD size. Can the amount of free space on the SD card affect the general responsiveness of the ISY to responding to events that driving programs or devices that are directly linked to each other? In other words can it slow things down?

One little bug I have noticed is that some devices "status" does not reflect properly.

For example I have a light I control with a remote-link. I dim it and it is at 25%, for example.

If I click All Lights Off it shuts off, but the ISY Console will still show 25% - until I manually do a query.

Of course other programs, Like MobilLinc on my iPad also show the wrong status until the query.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks ....

The size of the SD card should not affect speed - but the "generation" of the card can.

I upgraded my SD card a while back (a very easy process) to a newer 4GB card.

I did not need the space but I did notice a slight general improvement in access times.

On the other hand if you have the network module and run a web site off the ISY you may benefit from the additional space also.

Having a bit of issue after upgrade. I lost one scene which consisted of 4 switches to controll a entrance light. I recreated the scene as follows. SW1 which is load I added as responder, SW2, SW3, and SW4 as controllers. (SW4 is a keypad linc 2486D, SW1,SW2,SW3 are 2476 v.27) after adding everything to scene I can turn on light via load, but in line of sight is Keypadlinc the status does not turn on, but if I press the keypad on and then off again the light will go off. My other two switches show up in scene but do nothing like they are non existant. Nothing has changed or even created a problem with the last 10 beta's first one in long time. Id be happy to post logs if needed or what not. I have over 40 devices in the house with 3 phase couplers and a few of the dual band prouducts its a small house so I deff have signal covered. One more thing all other buttons on keypad show correct status, and next to SW2 and SW3, I have more switches that function correctly.

Thanks for any HELP lol

Hi Candide,

1. Thanks so very much for your quite accurate explanations on the SD Card

2. All on/off buttons require that the device be part of "a" scene. It does not matter what scene, just a scene. Is this the case?

Hi robandcathy, I think this is much better solved if you contact our tech support team.

With kind regards,

Michel

Michael -

Thanks for the reply. The device, a lamp on a Lamplinc, is part of a scene, even though I am turning it off by the "All Lights Off" button on the Remotelinc and not by the scene it is a member of.

The incorrect status happens nearly every day. I have attempted to compensate for it by doing a scheduled query overnight.

Hi Candide,

Thank you. Would you be kind enough to:

1. Check the error log for -11000x errors?

2. Also, when this happens, is the status of the RL controller correct? In short, if ISY does not see the status from RL, it would have a hard time updating the status for its responders

With kind regards,

Michel

The error log for Feb. is below.

I will dim the lamp and the ISY will show the Remotlinc Button status correctly - for example R1.2 at 25%.

I have some programs that automatically dim the lamp, to 15%.

Then if I use the RemoteLinc all lights off button the lamp will shut off but the button will still show 25% and the lamp 15%.

If I do a query the lamp will correctly show 0, query does not change the button status.

Thank you,

I was running 2.8.16 and have now successfully upgraded to 3.1.17

I like to run the java app (admin.jnlp) locally using my local Java.

Right now I am running the 2.8.15 version of admin.jnlp and it does work, but I am wondering if there is a later version I should be using.

Thanks.

DO NOT run the 2.8.15 Admin Console with the 3.1.17 ISY firmware. Go to Help | About. There should be two lines, Firmware and UI just below it both of which should indicate 3.1.17.

Clear the Java cache and pull the latest Admin Console for 3.1.17 (Brian indicated how). Once it is cached you should then see Help | About show the two lines described above.

Ok, cleared the cache......

Ran the admin from a browser.... got the two lines for 3.1.17 (UI and firmware)

But now how does one run the admin.jnlp locally..... (without a browser but as a java app)??

I have a directory for 2.8.15 that has the jnlp in it... and I used to point to that. Seems like there should be a new directory for 3.1.17

Trial and error wins the day again.....

Hi Candide,

Thanks so very much. As I cannot reproduce, can you please do me a huge favor and add another device to another one of the buttons on your RL (in a scene), repeat the experiment and let me know if you have the same issue with the other device as well?

Thanks and with kind regards,

Michel

Sorry for the delay. I did some testing and could not reproduce on another device.

So I relinked the Remotelincs, as I suspect them as a cause of the issue, and will see if that helps.

I will post an update as soon as I have some firm conclusions.

Thanks...

I did some more testing and observing, after re-linking the RemoteLincs and have not seen the problem again.

The RL buttons show whatever % status but the devices themselves now show accurate status.

Thank you,
