DNS issues on isy-99i

So, I keep having dns issues.. affects sending mail, connecting to mobillinc, time sync, etc.... I've tried using my router\gateway, I've tried putting in multiple ip addresses (google dns, etc.). Always seems to work for a while, then stops working. When it stops working I still have internet connectivity.. just the ISY can't resolve DNS.

A reboot of the ISY, or change in DNS reboot always fixes it.. but then after a week or so stops working again..

Anyone have any ideas?

Hello binaryman,

Can you tell me what's your ISY's firmware version? Also, please note that some routers do not like resolving DNS queries for devices that are not from their own DHCP pool. So, you might want to consider using DHCP and DHCP reservation to ensure that the router is not issuing ISY new IP address.

With kind regards,

Michel

It's the newest, 3.1.7 or whatever.

I'm using static dns and still doesn't work. I guess I could try reservation. It's an e4200 though, wouldn't expect too many issues.

Hello binaryman,

E4200 as in Linksys/Cisco, correct? If so, (Bruce) K7ZPJ reported this a while back:

The ISY wasn’t really hanging. After much time spent troubleshooting the issue the root cause was determined to be a bug in the router firmware causing the router port to constantly renegotiate the port speed to a value that neither the router or the ISY supported.

Resolution of the issue required a hard (30-30-30) reset of the router’s NVRAM both before and after the installation of the new router firmware as specified by the vendor.

Thank you for your help in resolving this issue.

May I humbly suggest upgrading your router's firmware and do a hard reset (as described above)?

With kind regards,

Michel
