Has my PLM gone South?

A few nights ago, all my programs started getting wonky. A program that is supposed to flash the lights 3 times and leave them on the third time would flash twice and stay off. Lights were not coming on or coming on and not going off. I unplugged and plugged the PLM and ISY. Now nothing is working. The ISY does not seem to see the PLM. I did a factory reset on the PLM and tried to Restore PLM from the ISY menu. The result is:

Failed to reset PLM

[-20000/-30]

System error (-200000) = Driver

Driver error (-30) = Failed to reset PLM

I'm going to provide the Event Viewer log from the ISY (I couldn't get the Java Console to give me anything, but I assume this is the same info)

Any thoughts? Is the PLM just junk now? And if so, what the heck causes a PLM to go bad like that? If not, what am I missing?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Hello wpmjones,

It does seem so. What do you get when you go to Tools | Diagnostics | PLM Status/Info? If connected, then it means that PLM is not dead (but perhaps dying since ISY cannot factory reset it). If not connected, then it's definitely dead.

With kind regards,

Michel

When I do Tools > Diagnostics > PLM INfo/Status, nothing happens at all. No error or anything.

How does a PLM go bad? Only thing I can figure is a power surge, but the ISY is plugged into the same outlet and it seems fine. Very odd.

Anyway, thanks for the quick reply. I needed a new motions sensor anyway, so I guess it's time to place an order with SmartHome! :)

Did it show the six digit Insteon ID, firmware version and then connected?

If not then the ISY99 is not talking to the PLM.

Did you try powering down both the PLM and ISY99 to allow them to restart?

Hello wpmjones,

If nothing happens (i.e. you do not get a dialog), then there are two cases:

1. ISY is trying to communicate with the PLM and it's trying (do you see Busy at the bottom?) ... in this case, the PLM is probably dead or dying

2. You are not using the correct UI ... please clear your Java cache and then go to http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/admin.jnlp and retry

With kind regards,

Thanks Michel. I tried clearing the java cache and used your link. Same results. Admin Console comes up in safe mode and Restore PLM almost immediately comes up with the error. I think I'm going to go ahead and order a new PLM.

I'm still not sure why a PLM would randomly go bad. Is this a common thing?

Hello wpmjones,

Yes, I think the PLM is dead. This is not a common occurrence at least as far as we can tell. This said, it does happen once in a while especially if you have frequent power surges/outages.

With kind regards,

Michel
