Excessive Traffic from one device

I was recently going through my ISY-99 log to look into something when I saw something that concerns me. Could be as simple as a bad device, but would appreciate any advice that you could provide. This has probably happened before, somewhere………

 

Between 14 and 24 January 2012, I started getting status reports in the log, separated by about one second:

The device is a 2457D2X, LampLinc 2 pin dimmer V.3A

 

The error messages would go on with alternating VALUE between 0% and 100% every second, for a total of over 23,000 times in the 11 day period 14 to 24 Jan, 2012. Clearly some sort of issue. Needless to say, the lights were not being turned ON or OFF by anyone, and were not actually going ON and OFF.

 

The times of day this occurred seems random, morning, evening, afternoon. Then it suddenly stopped…….and dropped down to logging a few times a day coinciding with when I turned to the lights ON/OFF.

 

My first inclination was to replace the 2 pin dimmer……but there could be more to it than that. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

 

 

 

 

 

Insteon Configuration

 

ISY-99 s/w: 3.1.16

 

Approximately 100 Insteon devices:

• Mainly Switchlincs, Lamplincs, Outletlincs, On/Off Adapters, etc etc

• 7 KPL’s

• Triggerlincs (2)

• RemoteLincs (3)

• Controllincs (2)

• ISY-99i

• Access Points (4)

• Dualband LampLinc dimmers (4)

• Dual Band 240V load controller (2)

• Signal Linc (2)

• Venstar Thermostats (3) with V2 RF interface

 

• House is about 4000 sq feet, two floors, but still pretty spread out.

• One main power panel, 400A service. With three subpanels with breakers.

• Third subpanel is only for the pool and washer dryer. Both main panels each have a signal linc installed.

• All power strips are either filtered via X-10 Pro 20 A in line or 15A plug in filters, or do NOT have any surge suppression or noise filtering. No UPS in the system.

• Numerous other devices are filtered via one of the above or a simple X-10 5A plug in filter or a leviton in line 5A filter.

The device has load sensing and may have falsely sensed the lamp was turning On/Off manually. A bulb at the end of its life cycle can do that. Also a loose bulb can do that. Try turning Off load sensing and see if the situation occurs again.

 

What is plugged into the LampLinc?

As always, thanks for the quick response. It has two lamps with one incandescent bulb in each. Each bulb is 60 watts.

 

I will turn off the load sensing.

 

As an aside. I found that when just ONE of the lamps (regardless of which one) is plugged into the LampLinc, the load sensing works fine. However, if both are plugged in, and both are left ON by the manual switch on each lamp, load sensing does NOT work. If one of the lamps is manually turned OFF, and the other is then turned OFF and back ON, then load sensing works. I imagine this is by design???
