SwitchLinc 2477D not responding

Recommended Posts

So I installed my first wired switch (I've only been using Lamplincs so far). Installed fine and works. I opened ISY to add it, went to start linking and then hit the set button on the 2477D. Everything seems to be fine. I can control it threw ISY, different levels, on, off, etc. Then I hit the physical switch on or off and then I loose all control in ISY. The physical switch still works. The switch is currently NOT is any scenes. I have a motion detector that will be used to control the light but I need to wait for the latest beta to come out first. Thoughts on what I am doing wrong?

"I hit the physical switch on or off and then I loose all control in ISY. "

Can you expand on this please. Cannot control the SwitchLinc Dimmer through the Admin Console? Cannot do anything through the Admin Console? Some detail about "loose all control" will be helpful.

Unless this is an I2CS device which I doubt 3.1.17 should be fine. What do you have installed for coupling the two 120V legs?

The switch is by the back door. I installed the switch and was able to turn the light on and off from the switch. I then added the switch to ISY, I have control in ISY. I am able to turn on, off etc. I then go and turn the physical switch on or off (as if I was leaving the house) and the switch works fine. But then I go into ISY and I can not turn it on or off.

I have a dual band PLM and a dual band lamplinc in the living room and a dual band lamplinc in the bedroom (which is on the same circuit as the back door). I don't have any problems with my other Insteon devices. The SwitchLinc dual band says v.40 in ISY

Thanks for the additional information.

The SwitchLinc was added successfully to the ISY and could be controlled (On/Off) initially through the Admin Console. That is what I got out of the last post. After turning the SwitchLinc On or Off at the paddle the SwitchLinc can no longer be controlled through the Admin Console.

Could be the distance to the SwitchLinc or the load the SwitchLinc is controlling. The fact that the SwitchLinc could be controlled through the Admin Console after being added to the ISY suggests an intermittent interference problem on the SwitchLinc circuit or the load the SwitchLinc is controlling.

Correct coupling of the 120V legs should be double checked. Run the 4 tap Set button test in both directions to confirm the PLM and LampLinc can hear each other’s RF signal and they are on opposite 120V legs. When that has been verified disconnect the Red load wire at the SwitchLinc and see if the SwitchLinc can be controlled reliably through the Admin Console when the SwitchLinc is On and Off by the paddle.

Another simple test is to remove the SwitchLinc from its current location. Connect the SwitchLinc to an Appliance cord and plug the Appliance cord into the PLM plug point. Repeat the same test. This eliminates install location and load being controlled.

I ran the 4 tapping of the set button. When I did it to the one in the living room, the PLM and the lamplinc in the bedroom flashed, the back entryway did not. The back entryway and bedroom are on the same breaker in the box. Which leads me to think that all of the dual band devices should flash when I do the bridge test. I tried putting the switchlinc into the bridge test, but it doesn't go into the test at all. Seems like I have a bad switch?

Might be or maybe just not in RF range of the other Dual Band devices. There are things in a house that can reduce the RF strength to the point where it is too weak to function. If it was a PLM I would expect it to flash. Don't have a Dual Band SwitchLinc so cannot speak from experience.

Its a 1400 sq foot condo. The bedroom is around 25 feet from the back door. And there is about 50 feet from the back door to the PLM. The PLM is near the tv, cable box, wireless router but have not had problems with the rest of my system which currently only contains 4 lamplincs, 3 remotelincs. Could I be having signal issues and need a filter?

Sounds like I should also try the appliance cord test. Looks like a trip to the hardware store.

I would recommend the Appliance cord test before returning the SwitchLinc. I use the Appliance cord test on all new devices before installing them in a wall. Insures they are fully functional and eliminates all question about problems at the install location.

A FilterLinc is always a good idea to isolate other equipment from the powerline where the PLM is plugged. Even if it does help the current symptoms I look at a FilterLinc as a best practice. Smarthome even provides a "free" (that is a funny) FilterLinc with the HouseLinc software.

Houselinc? Why would I want that?

I'll look into getting a FilterLinc, I think I just got a free shipping coupon for smarthome. And hopefully tomorrow I'll get the appliance cord to test.

Thanks for helping/walking me threw this.

Got the appliance cord, pulled the switch out of the wall and plugged it into the outlet with the PLM. Things worked ok. Unplugged TV, dvd, Wii, cable box and just left the ISY, modem and wireless plugged in. Things worked so much better, response was much quicker. So I have ordered a filter to help with the ISY/PLM communication. Thanks for the help gang.

I feel like some of my other sluggish responses that I thought were normal, are not that normal.
