I just purchased a venstar 7-day thermostat.I installed it and it works fine on the ISY except I can not adjust the set points from the computer,When I do it moves the set points on the console but the thermostat does not respond.However when I adjust the set points on mobiLinc it responses like it should on the computer and on the thermostat.I had one before this one and I sent back for the same problem. MikeBro Posted March 18, 2012 Share Posted March 18, 2012 I recently got one too. If the thermo is in "Program Auto" mode, I get the same as you. I switched it to "Auto", and it seems to work properly. I have yet to read the docs, though, so I have no idea what I'm doing. Link to comment

MikeBro Posted March 19, 2012 Share Posted March 19, 2012 Been experimenting (but not reading), and have a basic question; can the up/down buttons in the ISY99 interface do the same thing as the up/down buttons on the thermostat? On the thermo, I have programmed it to change set points during the day. The buttons on the thermo over-ride the set points, but only until the next programmed time comes around. Is this, or can this, be true for the ISY99? The ISY99 seems to set the set points "permanently". Link to comment

If your program is in Program Auto, the only way ISY can make permanent changes is if you change the mode to something other than Program. Link to comment
remedy1234 Posted March 19, 2012 Author Share Posted March 19, 2012 Hi Michel All I'm saying is when the thermostat is in program mode I can change the set points with mobillinc on my phone and the set points change on the thermostat and on the ISY console but when I use the console to change it in program mode is will not change the set points.I thought that there was a communication somethng wrong with the thermostat thats why I exchanged it.I guest the question is why can the ISY move the set points through mobillinc in program mode and not by itself? andyf0 Posted March 19, 2012 Share Posted March 19, 2012 I can confirm the behavior you are seeing. In program auto the console will show the increase in set points (both heat and cool) but the thermostat will not reflect it. MobiLinc however works differently, it doesn't send all the set points when the up arrow is hit, it only changes the set point that is highlighted. If the heat set point is shown larger then the heat set point will increase or decrease. Tap on the cool set point and the cool set point becomes the larger number and is affected by tapping the up or down button. This difference in behavior is what you are probably seeing. The ISY doesn't do anything when in program auto and it shouldn't reflect a change in the console. MobiLinc will send an individual set point change, totally different behaviors. That said: 1. Console shouldn't appear to change set points when it doesn't 2. Why would anyone use program auto when controlling the thermostat via the ISY? That is more for non-controller folks that just want a regular thermostat. Link to comment
MikeBro Posted March 19, 2012 Share Posted March 19, 2012 You may disagree, but it's much quicker to program the thermostat than the ISY. I just want the ISY to be a remote control. Yes, it's way overkill, but my Smartlinc was extra flakey. And anyone who asks "why would anyone..." has never dealt with customers before. What I want is to have the up/down buttons in the ISY work the same as those on the thermo. Consider it a suggestion if it's not too difficult, or a complaint if it is. Link to comment
andyf0 Posted March 19, 2012 Share Posted March 19, 2012 I will agree on one thing, the admin console has a bug in it that is either a) Displaying that it has changed both set points when it hasn't (don't display the change) Displaying that it has changed both set points when it hasn't (change the thermostat set points) Either way MobiLinc will behave differently by only changing one set point at a time. My first Venstar was the 7 day programmable which I tried in Program Auto mode but the internal clock drifts and would always end up changing set points at the wrong time (OK, a few minutes per month, but I'm a bit OCD). Then I realized I could create programs in the ISY and switch set points via the ISY whose clock is much more accurate so I use the thermostat in Auto mode. I don't believe it takes much longer to write a program for the ISY than it does to manually program the thermostat and it's much quicker to change a program than it is to re-program the thermostat. It works for me, YMMV. BTW, I am a customer. Just trying to help. Link to comment
remedy1234 Posted March 20, 2012 Author Share Posted March 20, 2012 I just got the thermostat and did not consider using the ISY to program it.I guess I should have bought the one day Thermostat.I replaced it a 7-day programable and want to control it remotely like Mikebro.My wife stays home and if she left for the day I could remotely set the heat back. (I just thought it was not working correctly). Thats what I like about this automation you learn how to change old habits. Tim Link to comment

Some I trigger at times during the day, i.e. when I go to work, come home etc. Others I trigger with button pushes on either KeypadLincs or RemoteLincs for when I go to bed, go on vacation etc. If you're away from home you can trigger a scene to change set points from MobiLinc. My back slider were my grill is Zone-5 when Violated I have the outside light to come on for 2-minutes.If I manually press the switch it disables the 2 minute program for an hour so if I have company over it does not keep going out.I have it working but not using true or false statements.If you have time no rush.
