mdyod Posted June 19, 2012 Share Posted June 19, 2012 I have used 4 remotelincs with an isy99i to control the lighting in my Optometric office for years - Now one has malfunctioned. I am trying to link an brand new one to the isy but during the procedure i get a "Failed writing device" [-200000/-51] for two devices and my new Remotelinc dosent show up in my "tree" Before linking, I press the "A" button on the remotelinc for 10 seconds until the LED starts blinking. What am i missing? Thanks in advance for your help Link to comment
LeeG Posted June 19, 2012 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Put the RemoteLinc into linking mode by pressing the Dim/Bright buttons at the same time until the RemoteLinc LED is blinking. Then add the RemoteLinc using Link Management | Link a RemoteLinc. Link to comment

LeeG Posted June 19, 2012 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Post the event viewer trace (Level 3 selected), note the RemoteLinc address and any other device involved. If there are queued/pending updates the error might be related to a different device. Link to comment

LeeG Posted June 19, 2012 Share Posted June 19, 2012 The other RemoteLinc would fail as it is not in linking mode. Not a good idea to put multiple RF devices into linking mode at the same time. Once the RemoteLinc that is currently being worked with is finished, put the other RemoteLinc into linking mode (Dim/Bright), right click and select Write updates to device. That should clear the other RemoteLinc. The ToggleLinc sounds like a powerline issue unless not running 3.2.6 and the ToggleLinc is a new Relay device making it I2CS. An event viewer trace with Level 3 selected, right click ToggleLinc and select Write Updates to device. The error log is not useful when analyzing Insteon device communications. Link to comment

Try clearing your java cache then access the admin console at http://your.ISYs.IP.address/admin Once there, you may want to update to the latest firmware (3.2.6) but I don't believe any of the Toggleinc devices require it yet. -Xathros Link to comment

I'm pretty sure the issue with the event trace and perhaps other symptoms are the result of running an Admin Console (UI 3.2.6) against an ISY level (2.8.16) that is two official releases out of sync. The suggested URL by Xathros will get you back to running an Admin Console that was designed to run with the ISY firmware in use. This should be verified with another Help About. Once that is done repeat the activity to update the ToggleLinc with Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer with Level 3 selected. Hopefully the event trace will work correctly, tracing the commands to the ToggleLinc so we can see what that problem is. Note that if the ToggleLinc is a Relay device and purchased after March 2012 it is likely an I2CS device which requires 3.2.6 Link to comment

Go to page 1 of that topic, about 2nd post down has a list of devices that have been found to be i2cs. I've been updating it as additional device types are discovered. It looks like they are updating the relay type devices first so any relay device after march 2012 is a potential I2CS candidate. Other users have found the TriggerLinc Relay is I2CS. The event trace will confirm once it is working. Smartlabs dropped the I1 Peek/Poke commands so any link management activity at the 2.8.16 level will fail if an I2CS device. The ISY uses Peek/Poke for everything back then except for RF devices like motion sensor and triggerlinc. The Peek/Poke commands are not rejected, just come back with data that matches the address being accessed. Link to comment

I do remember seeing it a while back and now I vaguely remember it being "relay devices first" but some how turned that into "Switchlink devices first" in my mind. Win7 So just to make sure, you cleared the Java cache using the Java applet from the Windows Control Panel Correct ? Not just clearing the browser cache. If so, I'm at a loss as to how you are getting the 3.2.6 UI from the ISY. After clearing the cache and then accessing the link, do you see the Java logo spin for a bit while the browser re-downloads the admin console from the ISY or does the console just open up right away and prompt for your user/pass ? -Xathros Link to comment
