jmed999 Posted July 7, 2012 Share Posted July 7, 2012 I just got the ISY994i up and running with a PLM. I bridged my 2 phases using an access point. I'm able to link the Lamplinc V2 (2456D3) but I then get a "cannot communicate with" error message. Any idea how to get the ISY to communicate with the 2456D3? Thanks in advance for the help! LeeG Posted July 7, 2012 Share Posted July 7, 2012 A 2456 is an ApplianceLinc which could require something plugged into the controlled outlet. What ISY firmware is being used? What does Help | About show for Firmware and UI lines? How was the Access Point confirmed to be on the opposite 120V leg and in RF range of the 2413S PLM? Brian H Posted July 7, 2012 Share Posted July 7, 2012 The PLM is not plugged into a surge strip that has a noise suppressor in it? The PLM is not connected to the same outlet as the computer or an UPS is it? Many computer power supplies and UPS units have power line filters in them and can absorb the Insteon power line signals. Filtered surge strips can also. You may also want to selectively disconnect things like TVs Cell Phone Chargers and other electronic devices and see if they are making power line noise or absorbing the Insteon signals. Now that it is confirmed to be a functional device, it not working elsewhere on the powerline indicates a powerline communications issue. All the things that Brian posted are potential issues for the beginner. Also exactly what steps did you follow and exactly what response was observerd to confirm active 120v coupling. jmed999 Posted July 8, 2012 Author Share Posted July 8, 2012 Thanks for the replies guys! The PLM is not plugged into a power strip or anything like that. It's in an outlet all by itself. In the closet close by I do have a lot of TV components ie set top box, A/V receiver, google TV, Logitech RF remote receiver/blaster, Blue Ray player, router, modem and an antenna. To bridge the two phases I plugged the access point into a garage outlet and the PLM is in a bonus room upstairs (directly above the garage). I pressed the set button on the PLM 4 times until I heard it start beeping. I then went out to the garage and noticed the green light blinking on the access point. According to the instructions that bridged the phases. To confirm they were bridged I plugged the Lamplinc in an outlet close by then plugged the access point to the back of the lamplinc like you suggested and it is working. Now the problem is when I unplug the access point from the back of the lamplinc and into the first outlet when coupling the phases (the outlet close by), the lamplinc doesn't work well (I can adjust the ramp rate but cant turn on or off...it just sticks in the off position and I get an error). Also, another lamplinc I have inside the house isn't able to communicate with the ISY. Should I start unplugging elec items around the house one at a time to determine what is messing it up? LeeG Posted July 8, 2012 Share Posted July 8, 2012 I would temporarily plug the PLM into an extension cord and plug the extension cord into another circuit as far away from the other electronic equipment as possible. The electronic equipment should be isolated from the powe4rline with a FilterLinc even if they are not the source of this problem.
