Can't Get Load Sensing to Work on LampLinc

Hi,

I can't seem to get the load sensing to work on my LampLinc devices. I have enabled Load Sensing - LampLinc is turned off (red) - I turn on the light using its switch - nothing happens. What am I doing wrong.

Thanks,

Jim

If not an incandescent bulb switch to something that has a standard incandescent bulb.

I suspect the Set button was not pressed 3 times quickly enough. It took the first two Set button taps as a request to turn Off load sense. Since the device defaults to load sense On factory reset the device which should restore load sense on and test. It will be necessary to Restore Device after the factory reset to rebuild the LampLinc link database.

the bulb is incandescent and the lamp has a simple on/off switch. maybe the behavior I'm looking for is not possible -- the device is plugged in and lamp is plugged in to the device. the light on the device is red. I want to be able to turn on the lamp at the lamp switch and have the device sense the load and switch on (light on device turns to green).

Thanks.

That is exactly what the device should be doing right out of the box. No need to turn On load sense as load sense should have been On by default. That is the way mine work.

Set button timing can be tricky. There is no multiple Set button presses to factory reset the device which should bring back load sense On.

If the device does not sense load after a factory reset a call to Smarthome Insteon Gold line is in order as the device is not working as it should.

Also, verify that the load is a functional incandescent bulb by plugging directly into the outlet to test. I went through this headache with an X10 device years ago only to find out my bulb was bad. Live and learn...

OK, well I have the EXACT same issue. I just bought 2 2457D2 lamplincs from Amazon. I am using them to replace 2 older version lamplincs (2457D2 R1.9 0912). I cannot get either of them to respond to lamp load. The old lamplincs work just fine responding to load. I am using 60W incandescent lights. Out of the box, nether responded. I did the triple press listed in the manual, but that did not help. I did a full factory reset, and that did not help.

I find it hard to believe that both can be bad! Any thoughts?

If I read this thread correctly, this has nothing to do with the ISY yet. It sounds to me like these modules just are not load sensing.

Does the lamplinc respond as described during the Enable sensing procedure? Specifically the response to step #2 ?

Enable Load Sensing

1) Press & hold the Set button on LampLinc until it beeps (3 seconds)

The LampLinc Status LED will begin blinking green

2) Triple-tap the Set button on LampLinc

LampLinc will beep and its Status LED will stop blinking and turn on solid green if the load is on or solid red if it is off

3) Test that Load Sensing has been enabled by turning the load on and off from its built-in switch

The load will turn on and off

You are right, this has nothing to do with ISY. I just called Smarthome. They informed me that lamplincs now no longer have Load Sense. It has been disabled in all units manufactured in the past 3-4 months. They gave no reason why, but said it has been permanently removed. So I am returning them for a refund. Really too bad, as I need that feature!

Only option right now is their inline module which still has load sense.

Very strange. I just looked at the online manual for those units and it still has the procedure for enable/disable load sensing right on page 10!

I have 6-8 older Lamplinc dimmer units that I am no longer using if your interested in some lightly (no pun intended) used units.

Yes, even the manual that came with the ones I bought still show it as a feature. It must have been something very odd that caused them to pull it. Maybe a liability issue of some type? Or maybe issues with new LED bulbs that draw so little power? Not sure, but yes, this is VERY surprising. I will PM you about some used lamplincs!

Thanks, I did go in the wrong direction.

Thanks for posting the information from Smarthome that LampLinc Load Sense has been discontinued.

Did Smarthome give any indication of whether the Controller function of the LampLinc was discontinued? That is, if the side On/Off buttons are used does the LampLinc still function as a Controller and notify the ISY that the LampLinc has changed state. Long term the ISY would have to treat the LampLinc as a Responder Only device (like the ApplianceLinc) if they have removed this capability along with Load Sense. Having Controller capability makes little sense without Load Sense.

I did not ask, but on my unit, it does work just fine still as a controller. I tested this by switching the unit using the built in buttons, and my ISY saw it changing states just fine. You are right, however, in that controller makes little sense if the load feature does not work!!! SmartHome really messed up on this one.

I am not too surprised on the changes.

The Insteon Engineers frequently do changes and sometimes the documentation department is not in the loop so to speak.

I have also found if you have real old modules. Frequently their documentation just vanishes completely and if you didn't have a hard copy. OH well.
