Buzzed Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I have had a working i99 system for some time now. Just recently we decided to finish the basement so I am adding additional 2466S ToggleLincs. I mounted one at the top of a set of stairs controlling a nearby light and another ToggleLinc at the bottom of the steps controlling a second nearby light. My intentions were to connect both together via a scene but the 2 switches fail to communicate with the i99 as they should. Is there anything I can do to remedy this and make the switches play nice together? I appreciate any and all info.
LeeG Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 What ISY firmware is being used? The ToggleLinc Relays purchased after March 2012 require 3.2.6. If running 3.2.6 click Help | About and verify that Firmware and UI both show 3.2.6.
inline Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 What version are the togglelincs? If they show as v.35 in the ISY they could be the problem.
Buzzed Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 I switched the phase in the sub-panel (moved breaker) on one of the 2 offending ToiggleLincs but it did not make a difference. There is also a Signalinc phase coupler attached to the sub-panel Both the firmware and UI are 3.2.6 ISY reports (2466S) ToggleLinc Relays 4.1 for both switches Other ideas
oberkc Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Absent a device failure, and given that your system has been working well and the legs of your power system are properly communicating, my initial suspicions would tend towards: a) load...are the new switches powering anything other than an incandescent load? wiring...is it possible you have a marginal connection with one of the switch wires?
Buzzed Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Both switches are new, just put into service. One switch controls a single 60 watt light bulb and the other controls ten 60 watt bulbs all incandescent. Neither switch communicates, they do however work manually. I also have more than a couple of dual band KeypadLincs installed throughout the home. Should I connect one of the 2 switches to a pigtail and try to program it closer to the PLM before condemning it?
LeeG Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 For both ToggleLincs to have added to the ISY without errors or pending updates communication with both devices must have been working to some degree. Suggest running Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer with Level 3 selected. Using the Admin Console turn both ToggleLincs On and Off several times and post the trace. That will show if any communication is possible now and how effective by the Hops Left counts. Were these switch locations a 3-way circuit to begin with?
Buzzed Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 One of the two switches is now located where a 3-way switch resided. The 2nd switch is a new installation on a dedicated circuit running a single 60 watt bulb. LeeG Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Thanks for the trace data. Both devices are responding On and Off but they are at the outer edge of reliability. The Hops Left=1 and Hops Left=0 indicates the powerline is not consistent and not very good. If the remainder of the installed Insteon devices are showing better communication there is something on the circuits these devices are on that is interfering with good communication. With a passive phase coupler in use no signal amplification is occurring when the Insteon signal is coupled to the opposite leg. It could be these are circuits on the opposite leg from the PLM with long distances to cover without an active coupler repeater. Brian H Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Pair of Dual Band devices. One on each phase with their communications test showing they can talk to each other. Two 2443 Access Points is one way to go and can easily be moved around for best results.
Buzzed Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Just ordered a pair of 2443s I'll let you know how they do once they arrive. Thanks!
Buzzed Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 I wanted to do a follow-up. Just completed finishing the basement and finally got around to installing the pair of 2443 access points. The intermittent communication problems immediately went away and the system is much more stable. Thanks for the help guys!
