Apparent limit on #links with 2487S 6-button converted to 8

Hello all.

I have a 2487s (v.40) that factory set as a 6-button, and it worked fine in that configuration. I'm using it to control a dust collector in my workshop, and have created a combination of scenes and programs to set up different 'On' time intervals at 1, 4, 7 and 10 minutes. All worked fine when it was in the 6 button configuration.

So, not be able to leave well enough alone, I decided I'd also like to have 15 & 20 minutes intervals, so decided to convert the 2487S to an 8 button.

All went well, I dropped it from the ISY (running 3.2.6, both client and server), added it back in, and restored all the original scenes. Each scene is set up to include the all buttons, with only the appropriate "time" as the controller, all others as responders. Everything was fine until I went to add in the 2 new buttons. I was able to add the 2 additonal buttons as responders to the original scenes without issue. And I was able to create a 2 new scenes for the new time intervals, and add in all the responders, however, when I went to add in the new controller, I got a very strange dialog box (attached).

Has anybody been able to link a converted 2487s? Is there a limit on the number of links?

I have a few factory set 6 button KeypadLincs that I have converted to 8 button mode. The link database of a KeypadLinc supports 417 link records regardless of whether operating in 6 button or 8 button mode.

Makes me wonder if this might be an issue with 3.2.6. It still seems like an odd error message.

I checked to see how many links were in the 2487 -- there were 67.

I did a factory reset, and tried adding the scenes in a different order. Same result. I counted the links, and again, there were 67.

Maybe I should have posted this in the 3.2.6 sub-forum.

Try a Search on Platform Error. Some weeks back another person reported that error message but I don't remember the activity. We ran an Event Trace which showed NO Insteon message errors at which point I stepped aside as I had never seen a Platform Error message before. Don't know the disposition of that problem. There can’t be that many references to Platform Error

Hi tunaman,

Is the case that some buttons work (if you put them in the same scene) and some don't or is the case that you cannot at all put buttons in the same scene?

i.e. when you removed your KPL from ISY, did a factory reset, added it back then could you add buttons in scene? Or, in short, at what point does this problem exhibit itself?

With kind regards,

Michel

Hi tunaman,

Just an update. Went through some diagnostics with one of our customers and it turned out that the KPL was defective. He has 2 that work and I have one that works as well.

What you need to try is:

1. Remove the KPL from ISY

2. Do a factory reset on it

3. Add it back and create a few scenes with those buttons

If this still does not work, then please replace your KPL. All these issues are KPL 40 related.

With kind regards,

Michel

thanks for the update. I'll do the factory reset this weekend.

I can define quite a few scenes with it (I was able to add 6 successfully; each which links the other 6 buttons to indicate off). It is when I add a scene for the last button that it fails. I can add responders to the last scene, but I can't add a controller.

I should have time this weekend to dig into it some more.

Michel -- I added a new scene, was able to add another device.

What I can't do is add the 2487S 'h' button as a controller. I can add it as a responder, but not as a controller.

Is this expected? Is the 'h' button a dedicated off button when the 2487S is configured as an 8-button keypad?

It was using an 8 button. I have been having the same thoughts. I will convert one of my 6 button KPLs that has already been defined to the ISY as a 6 button. Perhaps that has something to do with it although I don’t believe this is a device error.

If you want to run an Event Viewer with Level 3 selected of adding button H as a Controller I will confirm it is not related to an Insteon/device error. It was not the only other time someone reported the Platform Error message.

I did find a couple of other post with similar message. Both were apparently resolved by running a query engine.

I tried that -- no change, still can't add button H.

Below is event viewer, with level 3

The link record add to the PLM was rejected by the PLM. The 15 in the last byte indicates the PLM could not perform the requested operation.

The following trace entry is from my system adding button H as a Controller. Note the 06 in the last byte which indicates the PLM accepted the request.

My mistake. The 15 from the PLM for the 6F command is one of the very few 15 responses that does not necessarily indicate an error. The 026F request is to update an existing record or add a new record if one does not exist. The 15 can indicate the record did not exist and a new one was added.

Thanks, that explains the difference in PLM response. I'm running v.99. I’m working on changing a KPL from 6 to 8. Thought I had a spare 8 button kit, turns out I don't. Temporarily taking the buttons off one of the 8 button KPLs so I can move the frame and buttons to an existing 6 button. From the trace it looks like your KPL is v.40 so I will use one the v.40 6 button KPLs as the test vehicle. That last trace showed no Insteon errors once I got past the PLM difference.
