glynde Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Hi, I have a 6 button switchlinc, a dimmer, and an ISY. There are 2 scenes: Dim and Bright. Button "C" is to turn on Dim and Button "D" is to turn on "Bright". I programmed 2 scenes. -Button "C" is the controller, the main "ON" button is a responder and is set to 60%, as is the dimmer switch. -Button "D" is the controller, the main "On" button is a responder and is set to 100% and the dimmer switch is the same. On my insteon admin page the scene responds as expected. When I hit button "D", everything is 100% as expected. When I hit button "C", the dimmer is appropriate at 60%, but the main is 100%. I've restored the device. I replaced it thinking that a recent lightning storm maybe fried something. I've restored my PLM. And my ISY. Any suggestions? I have a similar problem with another switchlinc and dimmer combo. Thanks.
LeeG Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 What is the 6 button KeypadLinc firmware level? Controlling the Main load button from a Secondary button on the same KeypadLinc has been a problem with some KPLs. When you click on button D listed below the Scene name are both the Main and other Dimmer set to 60%?
glynde Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Old keypadlinc: 5.1. New: 5.9. I'm able to create the scene using another switchlink located in another room. Another data point, simplifying the programming: -Button "C" controlling the main on button. If I set the scene to 60%, it works if directly activated via ISY. However if pressed locally, the light goes to 100%. If I then click on Button "C" in the program it says it's set for 100%. If I lower it and click anywhere else then back again, it says 100%. Again, if I do this from any other switchlink it acts as expected.
LeeG Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Controlling a KeypadLinc Primary load control button from a Secondary button on the same KeypadLinc is done with special definitions within the KeypadLinc itself. Not all KeypadLincs will handle this correctly. Can you provide the KeypadLinc firmware level. The numbers in the previous post are hardware revision numbers. The KeypadLinc firmware level is displayed on the second line of the Admin Console detail node display (right pane). Controlling the Primary load control button from a different device, be it another KeypadLinc or a SwitchLinc (single paddle) is done very differently and would be expected to work regardless of KeypadLinc firmware level. The reason it works when controlling the Scene is the ISY PLM is the controller, a separate device, which always works when defined properly. Again, it is controlling the primary button from a secondary button on the same KPL that is problematic on some KPLs
glynde Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 I cured it!!!!!! Thanks for the brainstorm. When I looked at the firmware, it said firmware is v.00. Made me think something was wrong with the link between it and the ISY. So when I looked at the Link Management menu on the admin console, I noticed I was going through "Link a ControLinc" and tried the "New INSTEON Device" instead. I allowed it to autolink. When it came up it said my firmware is v.40 and when I tried (again...) to reprogram the scenes it worked perfectly. Anyway, thanks again for your help. Grant
Brian H Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 That is good news. I am glad you now have it working as expected.
Guest smontclair Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I have 2 KPL six buttons, one at v.39 and one at v.40. The 40 works perfectly with buttons abcd controlling fanlinc through scenes, but I've never been able to get the 39 to do the same with scenes, only with programs. Is this a firmware problem, and if so is it upgradable?
LeeG Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 KeypadLinc v.40 firmware supports turning Secondary buttons Off with a Scene On from another Controller. Previous KeypadLinc firmware does not support this feature. The KeypadLinc firmware cannot be updated. For KeypadLincs below v.40 the Secondary buttons controlled from another Controller have to be managed with ISY Programs and Scenes specifically set up for that purpose.
