scsherwood Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I am currently at firmware version 3.2.6. I have a switchlinc 2476S that is powering a halogen spotlight in the back yard. This switch is on a circuit that has several dual band switchlinc dimmers and a dual band lamplinc dimmer. I continue to get "Cannot Communicate with the device" errors when I try to add this switch to a scene with another 2476S controlling a second halogen spot. The ISY-99i can control the switch. I can turn it on and off from the ISY-99i control screen. But, it refuses to "Communicate" with the ISY-99i. It has the "!" icon on the device. Any ideas why it won't communicate? Thanks, steve
ELA Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Hello Scsherwood, How about the response you got at the Smarthome forum? Pretty lame huh? Are you familiar with the diagnostics mode in the ISY? Set it to level 3 and send some on/off commands and save the results and post them. If you look at the number of hops used this is an indication of how well the communications is working. This is a good first step towards determining if you have a communications issue. What model number is your PLM? Is it dual band? Have you tried the 4tap test to confirm you have RF communications from the PLM to the other devices?
Michel Kohanim Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Hi Steve, I am so very sorry to hear. In addition to questions from ELA: 1. What's the firmware version on your SWL .. in the Admin Console when you click on your SWL, you will see the device type and firmware version in the top/middle of the screen 2. Have you tried right mouse click on the SWL and then choose | Diagnostics | Query Insteon Engine? With kind regards, Michel
fitzpatri8 Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Hello Scsherwood, How about the response you got at the Smarthome forum? Pretty lame huh? Seriously, ela, do you know of a better place for folks to get smart, detailed and up-to-date ISY info?
ELA Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 fitzpatri8, I do not know of a better place for people to get great assistance for their Insteon issues than on this forum. I just felt that it could be more helpful to attempt to assist someone who asks at the Smarthome forum first, to determine if their issue was truly ISY related or not.

Whether the issue is ISY-related wasn't as important as the point that the ISY is itself an excellent troubleshooting tool. There's no sense trying to troubleshoot this blind when he's got this fantastic device that can help. The faster Steve can identify the problem, the faster he can solve it.
