The closest weather station in my climate module is over 10 miles away. The info from it isn't accurate for my house. How could I set up a station at my house? What would I need to do this?

You can indeed setup a weather station in your house. If you go to WeatherBug, they have a list of approved devices (including their own) which can report back to WeatherBug. You will get a station ID that you can use in your ISY (+ you will help others in your community).

What are the minimum features needed from a station for the climate and irrigation modules? ie. daily rain amount, rain rate, light, light rate, wind, temp, humidity, etc? This will help me identify the cheapest one that will work for my intentions (irrigation)

In case anyone searches this and wants to know the same thing. The required weather variables for evapotranspiration is Elevation, high/low temp, wind speed, pressure, dew point, and today's rain.

I would be interested in knowing what unit you choose ... If you do ... As well as your setup experiences if you get it running ... Good luck!

Just wondering if this isn't a bit of overkill (price wise) to control irrigation?

For the last year we use one of those Toro automated sprinkler controllers. While it does not take into consideration the wind and humidity, it does measure sunlight level, rain, and temperature and then adjusts the controller to vary the amount of watering. For our situation, it works beautifully at using just the right amount of water as dependent on the environmental conditions. We do have Davis weather station in the back yard, but it is independent of any other systems we use.

Yes, adding a weather station may be a bit overkill. It would cost me about $1,000 to set this up such that a Davis weather station could interact with the irrigation module through weatherbug. I'm going to look into other ways to save on my water bill due to irrigating. ie. moisture sensors. I'll compare the moisture sensor route to the weather station route. My hunch is the weather station route will be much more expensive but would provide much more info that could be useful for other programs outside of the irrigation purpose.

Yes but for those of us that have weather stations too far away we must look into other posibilities even if they are not as accurate. Thanks for your response!
