robertarak Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 ~big sigh~ For the past few years I have thought about getting and using Light Show Master for holiday lighting. This year I finally decided to do it! Of course now LSM is gone and I can't get the software. So sad. Can anyone help? Please! I would be HAPPY to buy the software if the company was still selling it, since they are not, I was hoping to find a copy here. Thank you in advance, Robert
Brian H Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 I found the Users Manuals in my archives. Make sure it is version 2.0 or higher. If you plan on using a 2412S/U or 2413S/U PLM. Version 1 used a 2414S/U PLC and SDM3. I was impressed with their WizardsInWinter.wmv demonstration presentation. Seven LampLincs was all they used and I believe a 2414 PLC.
robertarak Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 Thanks for that info. Now I just need to find the program. Anyone? Help!
arw01 Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 No solution for the software, but has anyone else played with this lately? I found a youtube video of one with 36 insteon modules.. that would cause some traffic!
peterd Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I'm in the same boat. We saw a local home with a nice light show this xmas and I was inspired enough to want to plan something for next year. After researching all the (very pricey) light controllers, I saw the Light Show Master video and thought "brilliant - I'll start there" (seemed natural as we're nearing the end of a massive home renovation project (including INSTEON everywhere). I did find that techmall.com still has Light Show Master 2.0 on their site, and just ordered a copy. I know sometimes various online home automation retailers have leftover stocks when Smarthome discontinues a particular model and I'm hoping this is a similar situation where they had some copies on hand when JLTsoft pulled the plug. Of course, they may just be behind in removing this from their site. I don't expect to hear anything until after New Years, but am hopeful that I get an email confirming rather than cancelling my order. Assuming I do get a copy, does anyone have any sequence files to share? (I saw that the Trans-Siberian file had been available from JLTsoft, but of course with the site gone that download option is no more...) Happy New Year! Peter
Brian H Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Well lets hope they still have it in stock. There are a few of the Light Show Masters Demo Videos. On the JLTSoft youtube site along with their newer creations. http://www.youtube.com/user/JLTSoft/videos I looked in my archives and didn't find any sequencer files. May check the real old archives on the off chance I may have more squirreled away. I did find a Demo version of Light Show Master 2.4.0. Installs but without the registration number is very limited.
peterd Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Brian - Thanks for looking for the sequence files. I have my fingers crossed that they'll have it. If so I may PM you about 2.4 (just to ensure I'd have the last possible version). Peter
robertarak Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 Thanks for the heads up on techmall. I just ordered it. I hope it shows up!
peterd Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Hi, all - Sorry I haven't checked in sooner with an update. No joy @ Techmall (and apparently they still haven't removed this from their site). Cheers, Peter
robertarak Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 Hello Robert, Thank you for your recent purchase with us at TechMall. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has just announced that the product you have ordered has been discontinued with no replacement at this time. Therefore, we will have to cancel this order and issue you a refund. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Best Regards, Del
robertarak Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Just bumping this...someone take pitty on me. I know you are out there.
G W Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I used Light Show Master a few years ago and it worked well enough. HOWEVER... When I looked at the price-per-channel, I discovered it was rather costly. I switched to Light-O-Rama and have been extremely happy. If you really want to do Holiday lighting, I highly recommend you look at controllers designed for such. While Insteon can control some lighting needs, it was never designed for more than just basic lighting. If you want to build your own, there are several sites that offer DIY solutions.
peterd Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Gary - I agree on price per channel, but looked at from a different perspective it can be a low-cost entry point. I have a ton of Insteon gear since I'm in the process of migrating my entire home to Insteon. Between spares & non-critical lights, I could easily have enough channels available to do a decent show, and this would let me get my feet wet. Don't forget there's all the rest of the work & expense if you're buying lights, planning where & how to install them, etc. If you're no longer using it, perhaps you'd like to resell your copy? ... Peter
arw01 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I got in on the co-op for diylightanimation for a pair of 16 channel Lynx units. I have to solder them together, buy some pig tails, some boxes, but will be in quite a bit below buying all made up units and I will TRULY understand how it works when finished. I looked hard at the lightshow master, but concluded I would have to exclude that leg from my house insteon, all the traffic it would make would make my house system probably just not work. Alan

Peter IF I can find the application, I'll be happy to pass it on to someone. It's been four years since I have used it. I have a LOR 16 channel controller I operate on a daily basis. I am looking at ways to integrate these channels with my ISY network.
arw01 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I have a LOR 16 channel controller I operate on a daily basis. I am looking at ways to integrate these channels with my ISY network. Oh don't be dropping a tease like that without some story.. What's ya doing with that controller on the daily basis. I will have two to play with soon and thinking I need some RGB nodes under my soffits Alan
G W Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Until two weeks ago, I used the unit to control backyard lighting. I had 14 zones of lighting in a 55 by 20 foot yard. This included spots, floods, strings, ground and post lighting. I have several preset programs that set lighting depending on triggers. It's overkill, but everyone loves the effects. At this point, I have a pile of dirt and a yard that looks like it was bombed. I'm putting in two retaining walls (a total of 280, 83 pound blocks) and about 5,000 bricks so I'll have a nice place to entertain. I'll then put in more lights, a fire feature, water feature and it will all be controlled by LOR units. And I plan to tie it all in to the ISY. Once I get it all done, I'll post the details and photos.
arw01 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Oh yes please. Any of the before photos, did you just statically set the lights,or were you changing the program every once in a while? What software did you settle on for the LOR controllers?
G W Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I didn't take any before photos. There are three main programs that I could trigger. Each program ran a sequence that looped until stopped. The key to the programs is to have some of the loops have main lights on for a long period of time. Then I'd change the ground and post lights, making it look random. I use LOR's software and it has served me well. This year I am adding a LOT of RGB pixels and may use another program, but LOR is doing pretty good about keeping up with lighting needs. While the ISY is used to control lights based on need, the LOR is used to play sequences based on want. They each preform a unique job and they compliment each other.
MikeB Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Has anyone tried to contact the author? I own Light Show Master and used the software for 2 or 3 years in a row at Halloween. Haven't had much time to do anything lately, but who knows - maybe I'll have time this Halloween! (yeah right) This is his new company: http://www.hauntsoft.com/ Drop him an email, he's a nice guy and might still sell copies I would think - probably with the pre-understanding that he wouldn't be able to support you.
arw01 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I did reach him through his youtube information. it's done was a paraphrased response. Alan
robertarak Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 I would still LOVE to get my hands on the LightShowMaster software. Anyone?
MikeB Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 If you cannot purchase a copy of the software from the author, you may want to try and get his permission for it to be released as freeware. Perhaps he wouldn't mind if he no longer plans on selling the software. If the author states it can be distributed free of charge you might find people more willing to post it up for download.
