Does INSTEON make a chime much like the X10 version?? Trying to upgrade all devices from X10 to INSTEON, cannot seem to locate a Chime ??

Thanks, so far the upgrade is going very well. Love the 2 way communication. Steill debating whter or not to purchase the X10 add in module, still trying to debate the $50 module price... :)

No. That is why my X10 Chime Modules are still being used.

Along with a few HR12A Palm Pads. No sixteen button Insteon remotes either.

As you may have guessed. Many of my Insteon Modules have an x10 address in them.

I believe some have used an I/OLinc to switch a chime or sounder On and Off.

In the Smarthome Forums. A user added a small sounder to an I/OLinc and used its small 5 volt power supply to power it.

I have never tried it myself.

Thank you very much for the reply. I am currently taking inventory of my over 50 X10 modules, and decided after this post to keep the HR12A Palm Pads as well as the X10 Chime which is much cheaper option.

Looks like I will upgrade to the X10 module so I can better record what is address actually is.

Thanks

I have a couple that I plugged into ApplianceLincs. When the ApplianceLinc turns on, the chime sounds. It doesn't sound again until the ApplianceLinc turns off and then on again.

That keeps the functionality but gives the reliability of Insteon. You can ignore the X10 address entirely this way.

Funny I was thinking of doing the exact same thing, takes up a bit more room but I see when it detects power/just like plugging it in it will chime.

Does it also chime when it turns off (Insteon device) ?

I have been using a piezo sounder connected to the 5vdc output of the Iolinc and it works better than an X10 chime. Brand is philmore and they come in continuous sound #B818, On/Off #B819 or Hi/Lo #B820 cost about $6. It has been working great for about year and a half now no problems. These are rated for 3-20vdc starting at 6ma draw. Found some here online but I bought mine locally at an electronics parts store. Hope this helps.

The X10 Chime Module only sounds when power is first applied. It will not chime with power going off.

So an ApplianceLinc applying power will have it sound but going back off it will not.

My X10 Chime Modules sound when power is restored after my power has been off.

One thing to remember. ApplianceLincs after revision hardware 4.15 default to off after a power loss. Even if they where on at the time the power was lost. Probably not an issue in this case but something to keep in mind.

I have seen others uses report. The small piezo sounder and an I/OLinc also worked well for them.

UPDATE: My brand NEW 2456S3 Hardware Revision 4.9 again returns to its known On or Off state after a power loss and restoration. :?
