Trouble adding a 2457D2 R1.9

Featured Replies

Posted

Recently purchased two 2457D2 R1.9 Lamplincs but have not been able to install in the ISY99.

I tried unsuccessfully to install them on an earlier version, then upgraded to 3.2.6. Discovered that this device does not exist in the device list, and the ISY will not auto discover.

Tried the similar device numbers including B2457D2 and 2457D2X. Eventually ot the ISY to accept but the Lamplinc would not switch on and off, even though the ISY reported status as on.

Searched the Wiki and the Forum for assistance but was not able to figure it out. Not sure what to try next.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It seems that each version of software brings with it recognition of new devices. Perhaps your new insteon device data was added after ISY v3.2.6? Have you checked the change description for the newer software builds? I know that 3.2.6 is the most recent formal "release", but I would not hesitate to update to a newer software version if I thought it would solve a problem.

Check Help | About, verify that Firmware and UI are listed at 3.2.6.

If UI not 3.2.6 clear Java cache and be sure to use URL for accessing 3.2.6 Admin Console

I agree completely with oberkc, upgrade to 3.3.4.

Thanks gentlemen.

To confirm, help about reports 3.2.6 and Java cache was cleared. I will now update to 3.3.4.

I get to the console by IPaddress/admin. Could the means by which I access the console cause issues? Is the 2457D2 Lamplinc in the device list within 3.3.4?

Thanks.

Bob

That technique for accessing the Admin Console is fine. That is what I have been using for years. Remember to clear the Java cache after installing 3.3.4. Always a good idea to run Help | About after an upgrade to insure both Firmware and UI lines indicate what was just installed.

The device will have to be Deleted and added under 3.3.4.

Is the 2457D2 Lamplinc in the device list within 3.3.4?

In case you have not seen it, each update gets a new topic, with change description. Try here:

http://forum.universal-devices.com/viewforum.php?f=25

You can review each update at your leisure and find what is in each, including recognition of any new devices. I have not memorized the change log, unfortunately, so I cannot answer without performing the same review.

Yes, I am familiar with the release notices and had scanned for info on the 2457D2 without finding anything. I scanned again after getting your message but once again found nothing.

I will go to 3.3.4 and see if I can add the device.

Thanks for your help.

Bob

The 2457D2 is listed in the 3.3.4 Device Type pulldown.

If it does not add successfully under 3.3.4 run Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer at LEVEL 3. Use New INSTEON Device, entering Insteon Address, Name of choice and leave Device Type set to default Auto Discover. Post the event trace.

Updating to 3.3.4 allowed me to select the B2457D2 and make them functional. Not sure what the B prefix means but given that it is working I guess it does not matter.

I stay up to date with firmware releases but have been reluctant to go past the official release to beta or release candidate. My theory is that being an early adopter will cause me grief. The sense I am getting from each of you is to go for it right to last rev.

Thanks for your help - I appreciate it.
