theedudenator Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I have a button on my keypad linc toggle my garage door open and closed. But it only acts like a toggle switch, and the light on the keypad linc could be on/off and not follow the state of the garage door. When the door is open, I would like to have the keypad button on. When the door is closed, I would like to have the keypad button off.

theedudenator Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 Those instructions don't really match the latest firmware. I tried to follow them, not sure if I have the latching correct. It seems that my garage sensor and relay have the same settings. Changing one changes the other.
oberkc Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I agree that there may be updates to the devices and firmware that render some details obsolete, but I would argue that the theory is still accurate. -Wire relay so that closed door = sensor off. Conncet relay wire to opener or button. - make two scenes, one with sensor as controller of button, second with button as controller of relay. -Configure button as non-toggle on. -configure relay to respond to "on" commands in momentary mode If there is a particular detail that is stumping you, bring it up.
LeeG Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 theedudenator What ISY firmware is being used? Help | About will display the ISY Firmware and UI (Admin Console) levels. Note that 3.2.6 does not handle new I2CS I/O Linc options correctly. Need to move to 3.3.7 (RC4) if on 3.2.6. The momentary mode is one of the things that is not set correctly at 3.2.6 when the I/O Linc is I2CS. Note that Set Options is setting the I/O Linc options. Although some apply to the Sensor and some apply to the Relay there is only one set of options in the I/O Linc which are displayed regardless of which I/O Linc node is used for Set Options. Also note that Smarthome has changed the magnetic switch shipped with the Garage Kit. The Wiki was written back when the magnetic switch had both a NO and NC switch built into the one device. Now the
MikeD Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I just installed my ISY system and Insteon devices over the past few weeks. Last weekend I added an I/O Linc in my garage and linked it to three KeypadLinks around the house. My configuration is very similar to the wiki and what oberkc described except for the following: 1. Door closed = LED sensor off (on I/O Linc) - Used a Normally Open magnetic contact switch (contact closes when magnet is removed) - Connected switch to GND & Sense terminals of I/O Linc 2. Configured KeypadLinc Button as non-toggle off 3. Trigger Reverse is not checked * v3.2.6 I did not get the dialog box containing the 'Trigger Lock' option 4. Connected Common & N/O terminals of I/O Linc to my garage door opener. I had two teminals on the main unit that said "relay" and they worked perfectly. Everything seems to be working fine. When someone opens the garage door the button lights on each KeypadLinc and the pressing the KeypadLinc button will close the garage door and all corresponding buttons turn off. Only thing is they turn off immediately, not when the garage door fully closes. I just have to figure out how to update the KeypadLinc buttons if the door fails to close. ~Mike
arw01 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 a scene with the kpl buttons in it. Then you query the io linc to see if the door is closed. if the door is open you turn that scene back on. I'd maybe put a timer program running to go off about 1 minute after the door is to have closed.
oberkc Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I just have to figure out how to update the KeypadLinc buttons if the door fails to close. The reason that I like "non-togge ON" is that there is only ONE way that the KPL button turns off: when directed by the IOLinc sensor as a result of the door closing. I prefer to have confidence that the door is closed. Alternatively, the suggestion by arw01 may work as well.

I'd maybe put a timer program running to go off about 1 minute after the door is to have closed. Thank you for the suggestion. There already is a scene with the kpl buttons in it, along with the I/O Linc sensor. When I prevent the garage door from closing after hitting one of the kpl buttons, the status of the devices within the scene are I/O Linc sensor=on, and all 3 kpl's=off. Could I just turn that scene on? I'm new to the ISY world so appreciate pointing me in the right direction. ~Mike
MikeD Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 oberkc: I'm the opposite, I was afraid to have a false indication that the door was open! First and foremost I really only wanted the I/O Linc sensor input to turn the button lights on when the garage door started to open and then turn the button lights off when the garage door is fully closed. Having the buttons also act as the controller for the I/O Linc relay muddied the water a bit. Thanks for your input! ~Mike
oberkc Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I'm the opposite, I was afraid to have a false indication that the door was open Then that explains your use of non-toggle off instead of on. It sounds as if you have a good handle on how this works and made good choices. In your case, I like the query approach offered by arw01. Perhaps a program triggered by a keypad button or change of state of your sensor?
MikeD Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 arw01: I answered my own question above, it worked! I didn't put a wait in there, just immediately turned the scene back on. The kpl buttons flashed twice then remained on until the sensor lined up when the door fully closed. Thank you, ~Mike
arw01 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Your experience will help me with a similar issue soon, my iolinc should be coming soon as smarthome showed it back in stock. That was the application I purchased it for exactly. Do they come with the reed switches already?
MikeD Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Do they come with the reed switches already? No, only the I/O Linc. You have to purchase a magnetic switch separately. ~Mike
LeeG Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 arw01 Did you purchase the Garage Kit which does include NC magnetic switch. If the I/O Linc was purchased as a separate device nothing comes with it to support any of the various I/O Linc kits.
MikeD Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Did not purchase the kit, just the I/O Linc and a normally-closed magnetic switch. However I wanted the sensor status to show Off not On when the garage door was closed! So I ordered a normally-open magnetic switch which works the way I wanted. Sensor-On=Door open Sensor-Off=Door closed ~Mike
