mvgossman
I have a Venstar T1800 thermostat + #2441V RF Adapter Rev. 2.0. Used to work perfectly with the ISY99i and along with MobiLinc and eK Pro on the iPhone. Quit working sometime in the past couple weeks, I use it to adjust temperature of a cabin remotely prior to arrival. Have updated the ISY99i to version 3.3.10, reset the ISY99i, deleted the old thermostat Insteon device, factory reset of the #2441V, Java cache clearing on my Mac, and even a whole house power down and I still cannot get the ISY-99i to link to the 2441V. I have tried putting the Java console in linking mode and pressing the button the the 2441V and also doing a manual link using the 2441V address. The Venstar is in "OFF" mode as recommended. Had no trouble with this when first installed! Dead 2441V or am I missing some crucial step? Say it's dead, what is a good Venstar stat with built-in Insteon that is supported by the ISY99i and Mobilinc? Or how about the Smarthome 2441TH, is it fully compatible? I like it's looks but it has gotten some negative reviews as far as compatibility with our ISY devices. I like the sound of a device with non-volatile memory. http://www.smarthome.com/2441TH/INSTEON ... tat/p.aspx Mitch
LeeG
Could have a bad dongle or could have lost the Dual Band device that is interfacing between the powerline and the dongle. Are there other RF only devices available for testing RF capability in general?
mvgossman
I have a RemoteLinc and it is working properly. Attempted again, when entering the device ID directly to add to the ISY99i it says "Cannot determine INSTEON Engine" as part of the error message. LeeG
"I have a RemoteLinc and it is working properly." Is that through the same Dual Band device the thermostat is using?

Unfortunately I can't get the thermostat dongle to connect to the network at all, that is the problem.
LeeG
Sorry I was not clear. The dongle would go through some specific Dual Band device to communicate with the powerline. Does the RemoteLinc work with that specific Dual Band device. If the RemoteLinc works through the Dual Band device that the dongle will not that makes it a dongle problem in my mind. If neither the dongle nor RemoteLinc will work through the one Dual Band device then I would look at that Dual Band device. The RF capability would be in question or perhaps that Dual Band device is no longer capable of communicating with the PLM.

Rather than replace and potentially throw good money after bad, do you have an opinion on the best thermostat out there? The Insteon one at Smarthome looks interesting but slogging through the forum there are a lot of posts about incompatibility, not sure if that has been resolved. LeeG
I have a 2491T1E Venstar with the integrate Insteon adaptor and a 2441TH on the test bed. They are both early models and I would not recommend either. Perhaps the issues have been resolved with later versions. Hopefully someone who is satisfied with their thermostat will chime in with the Type.
elvisimprsntr
Insteon thermostats is not one of SHs strong points. I got tired of all the problems and bought a Nest. My life got a lot less stressful when I did.
