Adding Motion: Cannot Determine Insteon Engine

Hi Guys,

The motion detector in my master bathroom stopped working.

I thought it was the battery, but even after I replaced it, it wouldn't work (...it would flash, but not update anything in the console).

I deleted the device from the ISY99. Now I'm trying to re-add it.

When I do that, I get the error:

0A.3C.83 (2420M-SP) INSTEON Motion Sensor v.00

- Cannot determine Insteon Engine

I read that this might mean it's too far away from an access point.

So, I moved it right below one, but got the same result.

In other related news, when I login to the Admin Console, I get two "cannot communicate" warnings for two other lamp lincs in the master bedroom.

Could this be a sign of a fauly access point? Faulty motion detector?

There is one other motion detector on the same floor and that one still works properly.

Also, my bedside remote that is in a scene with my lamp (on a lamplinc) works. But, any program that involves that LampLinc doesn't seem to work.

Any insight is appreciated!

Thanks!

When a device can not be found the system often reports the 'can not determine engine' (wish it would report 'unit not found'). So it sounds like it can't talk to it at all, possibly dead?

If the RF transmitter or receiver portion of the Motion Sensor has failed.

You may still see the LED flash and detect motion but no signal is sent back to an Access Point or Dual band receiver.

If you press the set button and watch the access point, does the access point LED flash?

Then put the ISY into event viewer level three and see if you get any activity on the line. Personally not sure if the device has to be known to the ISY to see it there.

I tried pressing the 'set' button and there was no flashing on the access point.

I tried linking a new motion and it worked like a charm.

So, I guess this old motion is broken and off to the trash.

... it had a good run!

Many thanks for the help!
