Sorry can you expand on that a little more, not sure what you mean exactly?

It's not actually connected to any load, just line voltage is all. I've got kind of an unusual setup. All of the wall switches are just connected to line voltage, no loads. I have another set of switches housed in a cabinet in a mechanical room that all the load wires run to. The switches in the mech room basically act as relays. I just program the wall switches to turn on a switch(s) in the mech room that is connected to the load I'm trying to power on.

Ok, I am at a total loss here. I had one keypadlinc P2486DWH8 V5.0 start shorting out. It was making a strange arcing sound and all the keypad lights would turn on and off constantly. I could not communicate w/ it and a factory reset didn't do anything. Alright, I figured I had one go bad no big deal. So in the mean time I decided to move one of my other keypadlincs (also P2486DWH8 V5.0) from another location (had been working fine right before disconnecting) and put in place of the bad one. As soon as I connected the good keypadlinc up, that one also starting doing the exact same thing! Had anyone seem this before and why might it be happening? I checked the voltage and it was 124V and I also have two other 2476D Switchlincs connected in the same spot (3 gang box) on the same circuit and those are both working fine. I've connected the bad keypadlincs up to an extension cord and tried plugging them into different outlets w/ the same shorting effect happening. Here is a video, sorry for the poor quality (camera phone). If you use headphones you can hear it clicking, but you can't seem to hear the arcing sound in the video. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v359/ ... EO0004.mp4

Thanks oberkc, that's good to hear. Hopefully I'll be lucky and not have any problems either.

I understand that if a manufactor says not to do it and I do, that I am taking that chance. That's why I posted the question because I did not know that Insteon said not to do this. I was also just wondering if anyone had experence with this setup or not before. Thanks

Well I'm not too worried about the CFLs but I'd hate to damage a dimmer switch.
-
Is there any problem using non-dimmable CFLs with dimmable switches (2476D)? I understand that I can't use the dimming feature but if I left the switch at 100% on level and ramp rate to the lowest setting would I have any problems? Only reason I ask is because I have a bunch of non dimmable CFLs that I bought long ago and never used and would like to use them until they go bad.

Hi Michel, Well my initial reason for getting started down this path was that I was trying to see how many devices I had that are V.35. And that's when I started noticing all the V.00 devices. I do have some comm issues and figured I start here to see if these v.35 devices are giving me issues. I understand your explanation but I don't quite understand why it's setup to do this. In my case I only removed one device that was a responder to one scene. When trying to add it back it, ISY recreated 4 new scenes with some have many many devices linked to them. Plus the device I added back in still didn't even work so all of those extra scenes ISY created were a waste of time.

Ok, so not a good idea. I was able to pull the air gap on the device and then delete it off the console just fine. Pushed the air gap back in and tried re-adding it back into the console and it did not go so well. When I started up the console I noticed that I didn't get my usual comm error message for the 4 devices I know aren't connected. I tried to add the device anyways and nothing seemed to happen. So I shut the console down and relaunched it and that's when the system started initilizing and got all messed up. It seemed to reload all the devices and created a bunch of extra scenes with just numbers and duplicate devices. Now when I try launching it, I got a java error message. I let it sit for a while and now it launches OK, but I have 5 extra scenes (scene 105, 106, 148, 227, 24). Not sure why those got created? So I'm going through and deleting the extra scenes now. My one device I delete did get readded but the links are broken.

Thank you Lee, I will give this a try tonight! In theory it sounds good.

I guess the way I read the option when adding a device, is that if the device has links in it's table that it will try and keep those links and re-add them back into the admin console or ISY/PLM table. I didn't realize that when you delete a device from the admin console, that it clears out all the links on the devices table as well. I have about ~60 devices that are showing v.00 and they all have multiple links setup in them. I was hoping for a way that I could delete them from the admin console and then readd them back in using the "auto discovery" method to get the correct version showing and try and save the links without having to basically start all over again. Cause that is going to take a very long time to do. Thanks

Not sure if your still having the problem but, I had this same problem just a couple weeks ago. My setup has not changed for over a year and it used to work before the 2.8.16 upgrade. Basically at some point a couple weeks ago I tried accessing my ISY remotely and found I couldn't anymore. Checked all my setting and found the Internet access wasn't enabled on my ISY now. Tried re-enabling it and it wouldn't enable. Checked my router and found UPnP was still turned on but the ISY wouldn't enable internet access. I then tried to manually forward the ports as Michel suggested but that didn't work either. To be honest I'm not sure what I did to get it working again but after multiple reboots of both the router and ISY, I was finally able to enable internet access via ISY using just the UPnP again. I think I had to turn off UPnP and then turn it back on again.

Well that's disconcerting. So what exactly is the point of using the option "Add devices found in links and keep existing links" when you add a device then?
-
Do you think I will lose my links if I delete a device and then readd it with the option "Add devices found in links and keep existing links"? Thanks
-
Well this is not looking good. I started removing a couple devices from ISY and readding them using the "Auto Discovery" mode and they added successfully but so far two are V.35 and I still have a lot more to go but most have links that I'm afraid might be messed up or lost if I remove and readd them. I've also been meaning to ask this question but just never got around to it. Just how long should it typically take to add, remove, or even just link a device? Maybe it's me but it seems to take a very long time to do these items. For example, I just removed an 8 keypad linc that did not have any links setup and it took approx 9 1/2 minutes. Just did a 2476S and it took approx 1 1/2 to 2 minutes to remove and another 1 1/2 to 2 minutes to readd.

I didn't really notice this when I initially setup my network but all of my 2475S, 2475D, 2486S, & some 2486D, 2476S, 2476D show up in ISY with version V.00 The rest (2476D, 2476S, 2486D, show up with V.37 and one V.35 that I need to look into replacing. Now for the most part I don't have too many issues with my network but wondering what possible if any negative effects having them listed as V.00 might cause?

I just like to respond since our house is built similar to DevonSprings. We built a new home last year and with help from my father-inlaw who is a master electrician, we have almost a 100% insteon home. Like Devon, none of our light switches have the load wires hooked up. Basically all the lightning wires run to a couple panels in our mechnical room that has a bunch of Switchlinc Relays and/or Dimmers. I believe this is how it's wire. (I'm not an electrician ) Then those Relays/Dimmers are controlled by Swithlinc Relays/Dimmers/Keypads throughout the house that work like normal light switches. Everything has been programmed vis ISY and any switch can control any light and so forth. This passed our local codes here and everything is in conduit so it would be very simple to change if need be down the road. One of these days I'll have to get a picture of our Relay panel that our father-inlaw build as it looks pretty impressive.

Suppose I should get a filter just in case. What about if I put the water circulator in the scene with the bathfan that way it turns it on/off with the fan. This would elimate any issues the programming if there is a communication issue going on. Now lets also say that I keep the current programming I have and if we happen to forget to turn off the fan, "Maybe" if there isn't any communication problems the program will shut off the circulator after the time specificed? This way I know the circulator will always "turn on" but there just might be that chance that it won't turn off automatically with the programming if we leave the fan on. This seems like the best possible solution for me right now since I'm more worried about making sure it will turn on in the first place or else we have very cold showers

No worries about the slow responses LeeG. Now this is really starting to irritate me. I just tested the program again with everything (computer & network) connected and it worked perfectly. Now granted I should be happy that it's working but what's to say it will stay this way? I retried doing the scene test via ISY and now I get this; Not sure why I now get a 50% success/fail rate where I was getting 100% failure rate before.

When I bring up the event viewer, it stays completly empty. Is this normal?
-
I have no idea why it would cause any extra noise especially on the power lines due to network traffic. What kind of filters would be available for the network line. I've seen the filters that Smarthome sells but they are for the powerlines. I suppose I could try one of those. No, when I disconnect the network cable from my computer that is when the program works fine. I am using the 2412S PLM and no I am not using an external power supply to the ISY. The ISY gets it's power from the PLM.
-
But the problem only goes away when I disconnect the network cable from my computer.
-
Sorry LeeG, fat fingers you are correct. Ok, so it sounds like I have some communication issues going on. Not sure what I can do since it appears to be on the Network line side of things and not so much noise over the power lines.

Sorry, it's OF.D6.A4

Such a statement makes me wonder if you have links in some your devices from a manual process (versus created by ISY scenes). I would not expect creating a master off scene is relatively straight-forward using the ISY and should not take that much time. I understand that having links in devices not known by the ISY (which can happen if one uses the manual method) can create problems with a system. All my scenes including the All Off were created using the ISY. I have never setup a manual scene. The long part is that it had to write the links to about 100+ devices which took forever especially when it locks up trying to write the link and I have to start all over.
