Thanks kclenden - I didn't realize that the the Admin Console's connectivity was with the PLM. I thought the Admin Console read information from the ISY server and that the ISY server holds all the data from the PLM and insteon devices plus the real time changes from the PLM and insteon devices. Although my insteon devices seem to work as I desire based on the scenes and programs I've created with my ISY admin console, I found out that many devices are not displaying changes in status on the Main tab | My Lighting of the Admin console. Restoring one device at a time seems to "reactivate" the display of that device so it does display status changes properly. I can restore a device at a time but I'm wondering if the File | Restore ISY will also do that and will also fix additional things that I have yet to discover are not correct. Is that a better option and will it restore and fix "hidden" issues I may have and correct errors in the four tables you referenced? Steve

My 2413S PLM is v2.2. There is no date but the number 1622 below the version number. I have dual band and many dual band, access point, and plug-in range extender devices throughout the house. Most RF only devices are very close to dual band devices. I have Filterlincs on all of my UPS units and other potential "sinks". This was sudden and happened to both RF, non-RF, and dual band devices and is not a communication error problem.

Hi - RE: Admin Console issue for KPL & Sensors (& maybe others) I restored my KPL and it works fine. But now back to my original question... A restore is what I had to do for ALL of my sensors and now the KPL. And maybe there are other devices that I have also not noticed. But I still don't have an answer as to what would cause the Admin console to loose connectivity with those devices seemingly at the same time. Thoughts? RE: Number of links I know that the count of links differs each time I run Admin function Diagnostics | Show PLM Links Table. I've run it multiple times over multiple days and the highest I have ever gotten is 109 links. Besides using the Admin function Diagnostics | Show PLM Links Table, I manually calculated the number of links (294) using a physical count of devices and device/scene instances which was found in the spreadsheet I attached in an earlier post. The method of determination (physical count or a formula) are found in the heading of each column. The formulas in the right table use the factors in the left table (gleaned from previous forum posts). I re-attached to this post the original 2019 04 04 Link Estimate.PDF file and attached table 2019 04 04 Link Estimate.PDF in which I revised the formula for column L which increased the link count (495). Are either of these tables a more accurate way to count my links than using the Diagnostics | Show PLM Links Table? Thanks, Steve 2019 04 04 Link Estimate.xlsx 2019 04 07 Link Estimate.pdf

Techman - If you talking about my initial email concerning the motion and leak sensors, I said in my initial post that they worked when I restored them. I had to individually restore each one. Yes, they function properly. If you are talking about the 8-button KeyPadLinc, I have not tried to restore that. It seems that my PLM link count very low when I run it from Tools | Diagnostics. Why is that? Doesn't that indicate some kind of problem with the PLM?

That extra PLM I bought may come in handy then... Steve

I'm not sure what you mean by reboot. (I cannot find that command in the Admin menu.) I have unplugged it and plugged it back in. However I have not performed a factory reset on the PLM nor have I used the "Delete Modem" or "Restore Modem" commands. Do you mean one of those or something else? In post https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/24490-problem-receiving-status-updates-from-kpl/?do=findComment&comment=244072 Michel provided link https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=INSTEON_No_Status_Feedback_From_Devices to count and evaluate PLM links. Per that link, I used commands Tools | Diagnostics | Show PLM Link Table to count the number of links on the PLM and compare them the the number of nodes (devices) on the left side of the Admin constol. The instructions say that there should be at least twice as many links in the PLM Link Table than the number of nodes on the Admin console. I had a count of 87 on the PLM Link Table and counted 97 notes on the left side of the Admin console. This seems to indicate that the PLM is missing some entries. is that the case? If so, is the only course to fix this to use the File \ Delete Modem command followed by the File | Restore Modem command? Are there instructions specifically for Admin Console v4.7.3 to do this? FWIW...I created a spreadsheet (attached) to estimate the number of PLM links and believe I have just under 300 links...well under the 900 and some links the PLM can handle. (My multipliers per device in column C are gleaned from previous forum posts that I could find so let me know if you believe any are incorrect.) Thanks, Steve 2019 04 04 Link Estimate.pdf

Hi Techman - Thanks...Sorry for this late reply to your answer...I thought I had responded earlier... I should have been more clear on my issue. I knew that the RF modules started out blank until there was an update signal sent to the ISY. My real problem was that the ISY programs that were to be triggered by these devices were not triggered. All programs that were to be triggered by these devices did not not recognize signals from the motion and leak sensors. It's like the ISY forgot them. I don't know if this is a related or the same issue but I also just found that the ISY is not recognizing my 8-button KeypadLinc. Devices other than the ISY that are linked to the KPL do work correctly. However the ISY will not recognize changes when I press the KPL keys --- the status of the KPL buttons does not change and the programs I created for the KPL buttons will not be triggered. Any advice would be appreciated. Steve

Hi - A couple days ago my 16 motion sensors (versions 1 & 2) and 13 leak sensors lost connectivity with my system...all at the same time. They showed no information when I selected them in the Admin panel and all programs that referenced or depended on on them did not work. After some troubleshooting I discovered that the only way to make them work again was to restore each sensor...one at a time. Needless to say the restore process was very time consuming since these sensors were spread all over the house and some were difficult to get to. I am pretty confident that no other other devices or device types were "lost". I also cannot remember anything that I did on the system that I believe would have caused this. But I am interested in preventing this situation in the future and am wondering what types of situations could cause this issue. So my question is... What things could have caused all of these motion and leak sensors to be "lost" in the system at exactly the same time? My system's information is below. Thanks, Steve

Paul - Thanks much for your help! It worked! I did it as follows: Backed up the ISY to make sure that was the only bad file...the backup completed successfully. Identified all scenes that contained the switchlinc...there was only one. Identified all programs that used the switchlinc and/or scene. Deleted the device (a switchlinc). Removed the switchlinc from the one scene in which it was located. Removed two other switchlincs from the same scene (since all switchlincs contained errant links). Left the RemoteLinc in the scene. Added all three switchlincs back to the scene . Selected and updated every command that used the switchlinc or scene for each program identified in step 3. Backed up the ISY...successfully. Made a note to pick up a new micro SD card to replace the current one. Thanks much for your recommendations and ideas. Really appreciated... Steve

Techman - The "eraser method" that you suggested didn't help. I still cannot backup the card. Thanks for the suggestion though. Paul - I'm going to try the copy method as you suggested. I'm not sure if you can help me with these questions but I'll ask anyways... The backup always stops at the 1B2299.REC file and I'd like to know what the consequences would be if the file cannot be copied either. Is there a list of the specific function or purpose each file that might tell me if this file is updated frequently? Is it file a stable file that could be copied from an old backup without any issues? Would it be automatically created if I cannot get a current copy of it? Thanks for your replies, help, and suggestions. Steve

Techman - On Sunday I will clean the card contacts to see if that fixes the issue. (Too many commitments until Sunday.) Paul - Since I haven't see a lot of response, I'll be trying Techman's suggestion. Bue even if Techman's method works I feel that replacing the existing SD card is prudent for the long term. My question about using the method in your link is.... Will I loose any changes (added devices or programs) by following that method? Thanks, Steve

Got it in August 2013. What's the best way to fix this with the least impact? Steve

Hi - I am running v.4.7.3 firmware and UI on an ISY 994i/IR PRO (1110). I use the Admin application on Windows 10 and run the Windows Defender firewall software. I've made additions to my Insteon hardware and made many program improvements in the past couple days. Although I've made backups of the programs that I've changed or added, my most recent ISY backup is from January 9th (as you'll see below). My issue.... I had a problem with a long-lasting "System Busy" dialog box in the Admin application every time I updated and saved a program. The message has recently showed a message at the bottom of the window that "DB cannot load /CONF/1B2299.REC" (Figure 1). It usually took 15-30 seconds for the dialog box to go away. Figure 1 Today I downloaded the Error Log and noticed the errors in Figure 2 below. There were a very many more -170001 errors than the -110014 errors that mentioned "/CONF/1B2299.REC". Figure 2 So I read through the forum and saw an issue related to a long-lasting "System Busy" dialog box, in which it was advised to uncheck the UPnP box on the System Configuration. I did that and the change forced a re-boot of the ISY. The long-lasting "System Busy" dialog box (Figure 3) continued but the "DB cannot load /CONF/1B2299.REC" message did not appear. Figure 3 I also downloaded the Error Log again and showed the following messages. There were over 57,000 of the "-170001 [UDSockets] PSub:41 error:6" error messages followed by the error code -5012 and the other error codes below it (Figure 4). Figure 4 I thought I had made a recent backup but when I looked at the size of my most recent backup file taken on 1/24, it was only 1 KB. So I know that backup didn't work. I tried to take another backup today (1/31). I got a message that the backup zip file couldn't be created and also got the message below (Figure 5) that it "Could Not Retrieve file /CONF/1B2299.REC". The size of the file was also only 1 KB. I looked at the backup files I've stored and the most recent successful backup I have (based on the 196 KB size) was taken on January 9th. Figure 5 I suspect these issues are related but can someone explain to me: 1. Why the "System Busy" dialog lasts so long and how can I fix that? 2. What the "/CONF/1B2299.REC" file stores, what issue is with it, and if it can be fixed? If I have to use the 1/9/18 restore to fix the problems, I would like to know how I can do that without losing the many added devices and many changes and additions to my programs that I've made in the past couple days. For example, are there options that just allow me to fix the "/CONF/1B2299.REC" file if that's the culprit? Thanks, Steve

FWIW... I'm also very interested in a combination of verbal and visual notifications controlled from my ISY. And to ask for the moon, I'd like to have options to control the repetition of each verbal notification and the length of time that notification would be given, For example, the option to "repeat every __ minutes for __ day(s) __ hour(s)". Hi Michel - When I search for a program using the program search I can only select from the lists in the search box so I cannot put quotes around the program name. As Chris pointed out, this search finds the name only in the content of programs...something I didn't realize and would swear it did before. This is confusing to me...that it doesn't find the program name no matter where it is in the program tree structure...so I'd prefer it find it in both programs' content and program names. When I search using raw text the program name is not found within the content of other programs. However it does find the program name in the program itself (whether or not there are quotes or no quotes). Hope this answers your question. Thanks for addressing this. Steve
-
Chris - I didn't catch that...swear it did it before. My mistake! In the request make sure that both the content and program name is searched. The content is the most important anyways. Thanks, Steve
-
Thanks Michel - I want to let you know a couple things in case they are pertinent.... I also have cases where the program search will find the wrong program. I may search for "xxx p Woodstove MS FR Off" but the search function finds "xxx p Woodstove MS FR On". I also discovered that I was inadvertently running v 4.5.1 of the UI with 4.6.2 of the firmware. I deleted the Java files and emptied my browser cache and then used the 4.6.2 US but continued to have the problem. I had to re-install Windows 10 (complete re-format and reinstall) within the past week. Steve

Hi - I have an issue where some of my program names are not found when using the Find/Replace function in the Program Details tab. It will find the program name within other programs that reference it but will not find the program name in the Program Details tree. This happens when I search for some programs but doesn't happen for all searches of program names. To see what I mean feel free to view a video I created at link https://www.screencast.com/t/O33xrY8joO where I search for the program name "p Woodstove Manual Switch Offx". The video starts with the program highlighted so that you know what I was searching for. I clicked on the Find button multiple times to cycle through the search. But the search only finds the program name in two other programs that use it and it never finds the program in the Program Details tree. My questions are: Would this cause issues in execution of these programs? (I have noticed intermittent (but not consistent) non-execution of the program I search for in the video but attributed that to occasional line interference.) What did I do to cause this issue? Do you have any suggestions on how to find and correct all of these similar problems? I'm on version 4.6.2 and run the Admin console in Windows 10 with the most recent Java updates. Thanks for your replies! Steve

Hi Teken - That's what I thought. And it does when I un-group the buttons, But when I group the buttons for this mini remote it continues to sort as shown in the attachment. This happens no matter what I've named and no matter how often I sort it. (I've tried many names and resorted it often...both when grouped and un-grouped.) The first remote is a 4 button one that sorts like I expect (button a is the head of the group) as do the other older 2440 remotelincs I own. It's not that important unless it's a sign of a potential issue that I don't yet know about... Thanks for your reply, Steve

Hi - Hopefully this is a non-issue or minor issue but thought I'd ask.... I added a mini remote 2342-2 and then grouped the buttons in the Universal Devices Admin Console. Button B was the top button of that group. With other remotes button A was the top button of a group and so I thought this might be a problem and uninstalled it from the admin console. Then I factory reset the mini remote, restarted the Admin Console (after clearing the browser and Java cache), and re-added the mini remote to the admin console. Button B still displays at the top of group. The buttons on the remote seems to work normally within the scenes they control and I've noticed no other issues. My question is.... Would this behavior indicate a problem with the remote that I have yet to run into or is it a "normal" behavior? Thanks, Steve

Just an update/decision... I've made a decision on what to do with my four runs. It's based on the answers in this forum and discussions with the lighting folks that are installing these runs. I decided to use one on/off 110/120 volt module (or outlet) and one inexpensive transformer per run that can handle the load for that run. (My loads are relatively small.) The lighting folks will put dimming LEDs into the runs that I may wish to dim in the future. This is really straightforward to set up now. When the cost of dimming LEDs falls and/or the technology becomes more usable for us mainstream folks, I will upgrade the components to provide dimming for a given run which will meet my ultimate dimming solution. This keeps cost relatively low now, gives me flexibility between runs, and allows me the ability to adapt to different options in the future. Thanks to everyone for your ideas and suggestions. Steve

I saw that and will take a look at upgrading my ISY to add Z wave. Thanks. Steve
-
Thanks for the idea but I'm not an electronics expert and don't have the fine motor coordination I used to have for soldering.

Thanks for the response and ideas and I will call Smarthome tomorrow to get their input. I will use LED bulbs. The largest run has 6 lights and each LED bulb is 5 watts (30 watts total). I want to plan for expansion on a two runs and should plan for triple that (or 90 watts) on those two runs. In a nutshell...30 watts to 90 watts in the foreseeable future. So if I'm doing my math correctly the I/O Linc relay should be able to handle up to 150 watts in latching (continuous) mode which would be sufficient for any of my on/off applications. Does this make sense? However you were prescient... In the perfect world I want the option of dimming 3 of the 4 runs. Dimming LEDs seems to be an expensive proposition for now so I resigned myself to on/off for now. When I reviewed the manual for the Insteon 0-10V ballast dimmers they seem to be for florescent lamps and not LED bulbs...unless I'm missing something. Am I? So for now I'm thinking of going with four separate inexpensive transformers and companion I/O Lincs to control the on/off of each run/zone. It's not the perfect solution but it does give me flexibility to in the future to upgrade to the yet to be developed insteon low voltage LED dimmer capable device (or devices)...or using the network module for a network capable device. Steve
