  1. Thanks for your help. I have an EZ Flora and knew that there was one output at a time so the EZ Flora is not much (if any) better than I/O Linc. My experience is that they have about the same life expectancy.
  2. Yup, that's what I was trying to avoid...Thanks for your quick reply. Is the I/O Linc the only Insteon device that can control on/off for 12 volt lines? Or would there be another non-Insteon device that can be controlled via my ISY (for example, a WiFi device)? Steve
  3. I want to independently control 4 separate sets of low voltage lights which are currently powered and controlled from a single transformer. I want the control to be on the 12 volt lines going from the transformer to the lights. In other words I'd have an on/off switch between the transformer and the low voltage lights for each of the four separate 12 volt lines. These switches would be installed indoors. I was planning to use an I/O Linc to control these lines. However could I instead use an on/off control such as the Insteon Remote Control Micro On/Off Switch Adaptor? I know this device is made for higher voltages and loads but it would give me the advantage of both the wire and R/F bands. Is there another option I'm not considering? Thanks, Steve
  4. So do you think another restore would help?
  5. Thanks... But I should have mentioned that I just restored the device and ran the diagnostics after I did the restore to check things out. I did the restore because there was random "flashing" of the KPL and I thought a restore might fix things. The flashing disappeared for 6 hours but has come back. Could the "record mismatch" be a cause of that flashing issue or could it be a clue about the reason for the flashing issue?
  6. Hi - I performed a diagnostic to show a KPL links table and then compare it to the ISY links table. One of the entries shows a "record mismatch". The table compare entry is at link http://screencast.com/t/Cm2yzWTWfOI. The device listed on this entry is the PLM (address partially blurred). Should I be concerned about this mismatch? Thanks, Steve
  7. Brian H - Thanks. I did a factory reset and restore which seemed to fix the issue...for about 6 hours. Looks like a new device. Techman - Thanks. After the "temporarinous" of the reset/restore I'll be looking for the next sale to replace this device. Steve
  8. Hi - I'm having a similar blinking issue with an Insteon keypad 8 button switch that was installed in January 2010. The Admin console lists the device as a "(2486D) KeypadLinc Dimmer 8 Buttons v.36" but a tag on the unit is labeled "2486DWH8 V5.2 0940". A few days ago the load (track lighting) connected to the unit and controlled by the "A" button started to randomly dim up and down (about every second). But now it occurs frequently. In fact I can now recreate the dimming loop by just pressing any of the buttons on the unit. In addition the keypad unit quietly buzzes and that buzz sound changes when the lights dim up/down. The things I have tried are to: Perform a simple reset first (pull out the set button, wait 10 seconds and tap it back in). There was no change...I think it may have gotten worse. Check the wiring in the box to make sure there were no loose connections. Everything was fine. What do you think I should do next? My next step was about to factory reset the unit, recreate the scenes, and update the programs. But before I spend the time on that I want to ask folks if it is worth trying to go through that effort. Or in light of the buzzing is the unit toast and I should just replace it. Thanks, Steve

    PLM Replacement

I had this as far away as possible (70-80 feet in a lower level garage with a wall and a floor between it and the ISY). I saw in the event viewer that doing this allowed the process to get further along however I always get the "unable to write" message. As an aside....Is the goal to have communications be through the power line or through the RF communication? Steve

    PLM Replacement

Hi - I have a related question with my RemoteLinc... My PLM failed and I replaced it per the online instructions. After that I did a write update for those devices with a 0101 icon. I had problems with my RemoteLinc and so moved it far away from the ISY to do the following: I did a restore device it and then performed a write updates. It failed with the following: Thu 09/29/2016 06:30:33 PM : [14 A 67 1 ] Link 2 : 0FE8 [E2014103FA000001] *Failed Writing [E2014103FA000001] 14 A 67 is my RemoteLinc. So then did a hard reset followed by a restore device and a write updates. It failed with the following: Thu 09/29/2016 06:37:27 PM : [14 A 67 1 ] Link 0 : 0FF8 [E201145C57FF1F01] *Failed Writing [E201145C57FF1F01] Before my PLM failed this remote was working. Why is it failing to write to my RemoteLink? Thanks, Steve
  12. LeeG - Thanks for pointing that out. That makes sense to me now that I know that in this case there are two separate controllers (MS and PLM) for the scene. BTW...I wanted to see this in action. So I coded two programs to perform "In Scene..." command. One program had the Motion Sensor - Sensor as the 1st parameter and the other program had the ISY Scene name as the 1st parameter. They both modified the On Level and Ramp Rate the same. I then opened up the Event Viewer on level 3 and ran each of the programs. The event viewer information (I posted at link http://screencast.com/t/gOCPrG22QCW) was interesting and I could see the differences of when the MS was the controller and the Scene was the controller. However the information was plentiful and I could find only some of the information to decode the information provided for the steps the Event Viewer. Is there a more comprehensive list of the format of Event Viewer steps than I found in the Wiki? Thanks again for you explanations. Steve
  13. Thanks, oberkc. Your explanation is just what I was looking for. LeeG and you continue to be very helpful to me. Great jobs!
  14. Lee, I want to make sure that I understand clearly what the implications are of using the Motion Sensor - Sensor vs. using the ISY Scene name as the first parameter and so I have a follow up questions... What do you mean by "If the ISY Scene was used in a Program..."? The "In Scene" statement that I use is part of a program so I consider that "used in a Program". Is the following statement correct? If not, please let me know how to better state it. When the first parameter is the Controller (the Motion Sensor - Sensor in this case) it changes the On Level or Ramp Rate for the particular controller/responder combination. From that point on this combination will be used whenever the scene is switched to on by either MS motion detection or an ISY program command. I'm not clear of what a similar statement would be when the ISY Scene name is the first parameter. Could you help me out there? I want to make sure I understand the practical use for placing the ISY Scene name as the first parameter. I hope you can help out this slow learner. Thanks for your help. Steve
  15. Thanks once again, Lee. This was exactly what I was looking for. Why is the MS-Sensor put into the first parameter...which I thought had to be the scene name (based on the "In Scene" before the parameter)? For me that is counter intuitive. Are techniques like this documented somewhere so I can look them up? Thanks for your help again. Steve
  16. Can I change the scene's on level based on the time of day for a scene that contains one Switchlinc and one Motion Sensor (MS) and is triggered directly by the MS rather than a program? I know I can use an ISY program to set the Swichlinc to the desired on level and then set the scene on. But I would prefer to have the programming only set the scene on level based on time of day and then have the linked MS/Switchlinc come on to that level when motion is detected. Below are my 4 programs that I hoped would adjust the scene on level at specific times of day. I've tried this with boththe MS and Switchlinc as controllers and also tried it with the MS as a controller and Switchlinc as a responder. No matter what I do the scene turns on at 100% (which was what the scene was at when I added the Switchlinc and MS to the scene). When I manually adjust the scene on level in the ISY admin console, click on the MS in the scene, and then click on button "Copy Scene Attributes from <the scene>" it will turn on at that rate from that point on. But no matter what I do the programs will not change the scene so that the MS triggers the Switchlinc to turn on at the desired level . What am I not understanding or doing wrong? 17. Lee and Jon - My original and only question was about how I could get an accurate count of the number of links in my PLM so I could determine if I was maxing out my PLM and if this was a potential cause of random issues. I think you gave me the answer to my question. To summarize the posts: The PLM link count results of my previous runs of Show PLM Links Table ranged from a couple hundred to over 1,000 and was inconclusive and confusing. Using the ISY PLM Links Calculator technique (http://www.universal...c_plm_links.htm) I estimated there were +700 links but was uncertain of that calculation. Lee provided the technique of running the Event Viewer at the same time as I run the Show PLM Links Table and this technique gave consistent answers when running Show PLM Links Table. Since these runs give the same PLM link count consistently I concur with Lee that my PLM link count is ~250. This answers my original question. It seems that my manually created estimate of +700 links based on the ISY PLM Links Calculator found at link http://www.universal...c_plm_links.htm was not correct and is not useful for me. So my believe is that any issues I have are not caused by an overloaded PLM and I can look elsewhere for causes of issues. It also gives me confidence to add additional devices and scenes without overloading my PLM. Thanks for your help. Steve
  18. The LampLinc is marked "inactive in the ISY Admin Console. It is currently unused and unplugged. I understand about taking time to go through the files. As I mentioned, they are all identical except for the timestamps and the two "time" entries in the Event Viewer I mentioned. I put the data from the files into Excel to compare them and provided that in the attached zip files. It contains 3 tabs with my comparisons of the 1.) Event Viewer files; 2.) PLM Links Table Files; and 3.) device IDs from the Topology report vs. the unique device IDS in the PLM Links Table files. Hope that helps. 19. Lee, I re-ran the PLM Links Table / Event Viewer 4 times this morning before there would be traffic on the system. I saved each run's PLM Links table file and the corresponding Events Viewer (level 3) file. The related files are numbered 1 through 4 and in the four attached zip files. I compared all results between the 4 Event Viewer files and between the 4 PLM Links Table files. They matched exactly except for one "time" event in The Event Viewer files in runs 1 and 3. Just for kicks I also ran the PLM Links Table without the Event Viewer logging those events and got the same results as runs 1 through 4 above. And I just ran it again about and a couple hours later and it totaled to the same number of links as previous runs (not attached) but I didn't compare the specific results. The unique device IDs in the PLM Links Table matched those in the Event Viewer. However 2 of my 71 devices that are displayed in the ISY Admin Console were missing. I ran a Topology report and these 2 devices showed in that report too (but not in the PLM Links Table and Event Viewer). The first device was marked inactive in the ISY Admin console (21.96.90 B2457D2 LampLinc BiPhy v.41). The second device was in irrigation controller that was still active in the ISY Admin console but not found in the PLM Links Table (38.7E.1D EZRain/EZFlora Irrigation Controller v.28). What reasons would these devices would not show in the PLM Links Table? In case you wanted to see it, I also zipped and attached the spreadsheet that shows how I estimated the +700 links. 20. Thank Lee. I did what you suggested (opened the event viewer on level 3 and then run the ISY PLM Links Table). I did this 4 times and each time saved the event viewer results in a file. I opened each file in Excel and counted the number of rows that contained "LNK-DATA". In all 4 files it totaled in the 250's. Does that value give me the PLM links total? In addition the 4 times I ran the ISY's PLM Link Table with the event viewer it consistently stopped counting in the 250-260 count range. Does the event viewer "stablize" the PLM Link Table function? Do you know why this count is so much lower than the +700 count I estimated using the ISY PLM Links Calculator method? Thanks for your help. Steve
  21. Hi – My questions concern the number of links my 2413S PLM (modem) is handling. I’m not having serious issues but was having periodic problems with the linking of devices and operation of scenes and programs. I wanted to get feedback about whether or not the issue is related to the number of links in the PLM. If I understand correctly I should keep the number of PLM links under 900 to ensure there are no issues with my system. In this post I will: Explain the counts I’m getting from runs of the ISY Admin console’s PLM Link Table. Provide my estimate of the links that I believe is stored on the PLM (modem). Ask for feedback concerning the discrepancy above and what I should assume my PLM (modem) count to be. #1 - ISY Admin console’s PLM Link Table Counts I get a varied count of links whenever I run the ISY Admin console’s PLM Link Table. I ran tests earlier this week with a varied count of links. Most counts were in the high-hundreds or low-thousands but I actually had one count in the mid-3,000s. Thinking that a restore of my PLM would “clean” it up, I restored the PLM and ran the series shown in the table fount in the below. As you can see the counts continued to vary (from 35 to 1,570 links). I believe there was little or no activity on my system when these counts were run. PLM Link Count: http://screencast.com/t/J4Q5OwUQn #2 – Estimate of Links I Believe are Stored in the PLM I did an estimate of the number of links I believe are in the PLM and believe it is just over 700 links. See my detailed table of estimates at the link below. The column “Links per Device or Scene” were based on the “ISY PLM Links Calculator” found at link http://www.universal-devices.com/tools/insteon/calc_plm_links.htm. My Estimate of PLM Link Count: http://screencast.com/t/QiSw7vwnJjCe #3 – Feedback – I would like to know the following… Please let me know if you believe my estimate in #2 above sounds reasonable. Why does my ISY PLM Link Table count vary so much? Which ISY PLM Link Table count should I believe? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Steve
  22. Hi - I keep getting these error log messages. What do they mean? Thanks, Steve
  23. This question has to do with a problem I observed with a 2476D SwitchLinc Dimmer W/Beeper v.40. It was continuously writing as I observed it on the Administration Console. I monitored with the Event Monitor using level 3. Below is some of the monitor's text in which it gave the following "Failed Writing" error: Sun 01/10/2016 06:49:14 AM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1B AB AF 0F 28 0F Sun 01/10/2016 06:49:14 AM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1B.AB.AF 0F 28 0F 06 SET-MSB(0F) Sun 01/10/2016 06:49:18 AM : [1B AB AF 1 ] Link 8 : 0FB8 [A22D1E49614C1E01] *Failed Writing [............1E..] Sun 01/10/2016 06:50:02 AM : [1B AB AF 1 ] Link 8 : 0FB8 [A22D1E49614C1E01] Writing [............1E..] Sun 01/10/2016 06:50:02 AM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1B AB AF 0F 28 0F Sun 01/10/2016 06:50:02 AM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1B.AB.AF 0F 28 0F 06 SET-MSB(0F) Sun 01/10/2016 06:50:11 AM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1B AB AF 0F 28 0F Sun 01/10/2016 06:50:11 AM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1B.AB.AF 0F 28 0F 06 SET-MSB(0F) Sun 01/10/2016 06:50:20 AM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 1B AB AF 0F 28 0F Sun 01/10/2016 06:50:20 AM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 1B.AB.AF 0F 28 0F 06 SET-MSB(0F) Sun 01/10/2016 06:50:24 AM : [1B AB AF 1 ] Link 8 : 0FB8 [A22D1E49614C1E01] *Failed Writing [............1E..] I then checked the SwitchLinc's device links table and it would not respond with any links. See Image 1 or http://screencast.com/t/mWx8GPcTfK Figuring this was an unsolvable issue I decided to delete and re-add the SwitchLinc. The delete went find but when I tried to re-add it. It produced another "Failed Writing" error: See Image 2 or http://screencast.com/t/nCGzX0OKU1IB I even did a factory re-set on the SwitchLinc and tried to re-add it but got the same error. The last time I tried it I got the following error: See Image 3 or http://screencast.com/t/qNlEAbsw Can I assume this device is toast? If not, what else could I try? Thanks, Steve
  24. I've had the same thing happen randomly and found nothing in the log that would help me identify what happened. The most recent was when I manually turned off a (2476D) SwichLinc Dimmer v.38. I attached a file containing the log records when the incident occurred which includes the follow up steps recorded when I fix it (turned all lights off) and my comments. Steve Random All On Incident 2015 12 29.pdf
  25. Thanks LeeG.
