  1. Bummer. I have no clue how to program an Insteon network without the ISY! I've become very spoiled! I want him to be as impressed with Insteon as I am so I can convince him to go all out with the ISY/PLM based system.
  2. I convinced a friend to try Insteon but he didn't want to spend much money. I decided to get him a starter bundle that doesn't contain the ISY (I figure I will give him my extra one when I finally order the ELK system). For now, I want to control his scenes with a KPL (which is included) and an irLinc (which is included as well). There are also three switchlinc dimmers. I was wondering if I could temporarily install his devices into my network and program all the scenes he would need using the ISY console, then uninstall the programmed devices (not from the ISY but from the electrical circuit) and reinstall them at his house. Would that work?
  3. I'm still trying to get rid of all my errors. I still get the occasional grouping of usually three -5012 errors in a row a couple of times a day. Is there a way to track down the culprit? Is there a way to find out who the ISY is subscribed to at the time it records the -5012?
  4. Well the solution was so simple!! I tested it and it appears to be working! Here is the program: To run the program, I just enable the program from my iPhone (or the admin console). When the program finishes, it disables it so it won't run again until I enable it again!
  5. Got it, thanks!
  6. Ok, thanks to Michel, I am trying a different approach. I have the following programs, please let me know if they should work. First, I created a program that sets a variable either true or false: The program is disabled by default. I would enable it if I want the heater to turn on. Here is the heater on program: So I would enable the Heater Variable program and it should run the heater program and then disable the Heater Variable program at the end. Does this look right? Is there an easier way? I want to be able to activate the pool heater program from my iPhone the day before.

    New errors

I installed two 220v Insteon devices over the weekend and they both appear to be functioning fine despite being described as an Unsupported Device:2.25 in the admin console. However, I checked my log this morning because I noticed a drop off of speed since I installed the devices and I found 466 entries of this about 7 minutes after activating the Pool heater device which is one of the 220v devices and part of a program. About 17 minutes later another 750 entries of this: Both of these entries followed three or six -5012 errors. I haven't noticed any more of the -5011 entries since Saturday.
  8. When I turn on the heater, it doesn't actually start heating unless there is water flow, so the pump also has to be on for the heater to activate. When the heater turns off though, I wanted the pump to continue for 10 or so minutes to cool off the components of the heater. So if I turn on the circuit to the heater the night before, it will activate when the pump turns on. But once I turn off the heater, the program aborts and the pump continues. To do what I want, I have to write multiple programs. To activate the heater: To turn off the heater: Then to turn off the pump 10 minutes later: This seems complicated. If there were a way to create a phantom device, I could use it to define the state of my program and then the program would run to its end. I think this is a great idea and I will post it on the request forum. How would I write a program to keep track of the pump? I would love to limit the time it runs!
  9. For now, I think this will work but it does create some issues. To turn the heater/pump on (since the heater will not turn on without water flow): To finish cooling the heater after the heater has been turned off: I know this will work but it isn't as clean as I'd like.
  10. The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced I can't write the program the way I am trying to. I am using a member of the program as a condition of the program and then changing the status of the member before the program ends. I think I need a surrogate device to run the program. Like a KPL button or something similar. Is there a way to create a phantom device in the ISY? If not, I would ask for the ability to create phantom devices as controllers for programs. The device wouldn't necessarily need any load, it would be used to make a statement true or false.
  11. What I was trying to do was to have the pump run at least 4 hours a day. On the days that I want to heat the pool, I don't need to run the pump on its daily program since it will run with the heater. I wanted to turn off the heater before the pump so the heater will cool down. I guess I could write programs this way: Daily program: Then the heater program: Will that run or will the program abort again?
  12. It seems to be working so I have only one additional question about this topic. When a Folder is true, the program contained within the Folder will run. But what if the program is running while the Folder becomes false? If you read my Else statement in the Heater program, it tells the heater to turn off first, then wait 10 minutes then turn off the pump. Once the heater is off though, the Folder becomes false. Will this cause the last line (or any line after the heater off command) to not run?
  13. I came up with this solution, please let me know if this will run properly. First I created this Folder program: Then inside the folder: I also created the daily folder: And inside: So if I turn on the pool heater's device, it should run the first folder. If the heater device is off, then the second folder should run. The good thing is the heater will not run without the pump being on so I used that to my advantage.
  14. I have a programming question. I have a pool pump which has to run every day for around four or more hours in order to keep it clean and to run the salt generator that keeps my pool's chlorine level correct. This is what I wrote: I have my pool heater on a seperate Insteon device. I want to be able to run my pool heater at different times based on when my family wants to swim. Problem is that the heater needs the pool pump to be on also. I would want the heater to run for a different and maybe longer time frame than the daily pump program. How would I do this? Say I want to run the heater from 4am to 1pm on Friday. Thanks
  15. I would like to make one of my thermostat programs more reliable. It seems that only one of four of my thermostats gets an -1 error when it tries to run a program. I am capable of communicating with the thermostat flawlessly otherwise. Is there someway to make my program more reliable? What steps should I take to track down the error? The program is very simple. My nighttime program looks like this: The daytime program looks like this:
  16. The reason I ask is I found someone selling 6 KPL's at a good price and I want to be sure they are going to work without drama. The seller says they are v 1.4 Is this firmware (from the sticker) a good product?
  17. What is the difference between the firmware version shown in the admin console and the sticker on the actual device? I noticed that none of my devices seem to show the same v number in the console as the sticker.
  18. I'm no expert at all but I do remember reading somewhere that the T1800 cannot be fixed to stop sending humidity info to the ISY and hence the full log. I have the T1700 and soldered the pads and now I don't get any humidity log entries. I think only the T1900 is capable of sending accurate humidity info to the ISY. (This is all from memory when I was trying to find a fix to my endless logging of humidity!)
  19. Thanks, I guess its just a glitch I will have to live with!
  20. Another weird thing I've noticed with the thermostats is that when I performed the soldering technique to get rid of the humidity issue, all of my thermostats reported 0% humidity. Now, one of the thermostats is reporting 1% and another is reporting 3%. Very strange...
  21. I have a question about the reporting of one of my thermostats. As you can see from the screen shot of my admin console, the Master Suite Fan is noted as being on. It isn't. I also note that all of the cool controls are noted as Off and none of the other parameters are noted at all. Is this a common finding? Am I having communication issues? I checked the log and it all looks clean.
  22. So basically, it can't be done. I'm amazed there isn't a remote temp sensor that can tie into the Insteon network. I can't imagine it would be difficult to make one.
  23. Now that I have the Venstar thermostat, I was thinking about creating a program to make the a/c more efficient. One of the thermostats controls the second floor of my house. The thermostat is located in the hallway that is a catwalk that connects one side of the second floor to the other side. Each side has two bedrooms. Since the catwalk is located in the main house's airspace, its temp does not reflect the temp in any of the bedrooms. In fact, I have to set the thermostat high because the catwalk is always warmer than the bedrooms. Because of this problem I cannot keep the temps in the bedrooms consistent. Now for my proposal: I am thinking about installing four of these: and controlling them with: And controlling the thermostat with four of these, one mounted in each bedroom: Then I would write a program to have the a/c turn on when any of the sensors falls above the desired temp for each room and then openning the vent for that or any/all rooms that need it. Will this work? I didn't see a specific Insteon temp sensor so I'm not so sure this will integrate properly. Has anyone tried a similar installation? If so, can you post your programming? Thanks!
  24. Thanks! Yup, I left the admin console open by mistake.
  25. Actually, I think I already found it. I am running the links table and then I can get my count. Got it, I'm at 253 so I have alot of room for expansion!! Thanks so much! I am really getting this system down!
