I have a question about the link count. I assume that since you didn't say device count that you mean how many different links are created by programming. So if you have a large installation with 300 devices, as long as you don't have a lot of linking of the devices, it should be fine but if you have a moderate installation but very numerous or complex programs, you could exceed the 800 links with far fewer devices. Am I understanding the theory correctly? Is there an easy way to determine how many links my network contains?

Can anyone tell me what this means? Thanks!

Does anyone know if there is an easier fix yet? I really don't want to start voiding my warrantee by soldering the internals of my thermostat.

These are brand new and v2. Do you have a link to the soldering technique? I don't like all this traffic!

I just installed 4 Venstar One day thermostats last night and I decided to check the log today and I noticed tons of Humidity logs. Here is a segment: Sorry for the long log but you should see how long it really is!!! How do I stop the queries about humidity? I don't even care about humidity since I don't run any programs that require the info!

I'm sure there's an easy way to do this but this is my question: How would I structure my Programs so that I can easily change the entire set of programs based on whether I'm home or away? Also, when we entertain, I wouldn't want certain programs to run, is there any easy way to setup a Party mode where I could decide what programs run? I was thinking about using Folders to organize the three modes and then keep the programs I want to run within the folders but how would I set up the Folder so it would only run when I wanted it to?

Thank you for that awesome diagnostic tip! I didn't realize I could check my ir codes. Turns out it was my remote programming. It all works now! My theater is really turning into an integrated tour de force! When I press the On button of my remote, the lighting scene On runs (so the lighting comes on), the entire system turns on (the pj, sound system and then tunes to music videos), and my a/c turns on!! When I press off, everything turns off including the a/c!! Just awesome!!! Thanks again!

I set up my Venstar tonight and immediately wanted to control temps with my remote control. I have successfully set up lighting scenes using my remote so I figured it should be a snap to also use my remote to change the settings on my Venstar, or so I hoped. I wrote the following: The only problem, it doesn't work! I know my ir codes work because I am using many scenes including: which runs fine. Also I tested the program in the Summary tab using the Run Then and the thermostat responded. Is there a difference using ir initiated commands for the Venstar?

I am replacing four thermostats in my house with Venstar so that I can incorporate my HVAC into my ISY. Is there any difference in features or abilities between the one day and the seven day version of the thermostats as far as the Insteon/ISY network is concerned?

Mine is not set up that way. Once the timer turns off the pump, the heater turns off too. Maybe that's why I always have problems with my heater? But I don't see how it could work any other way? The timer doesn't know when the pump will turn off until it happens. Do you have the mechanical type timer with the yellow 24 hour time wheel and the red manual lever?

I won't know until I dissect the box. I hope so! I plan on taking pictures and posting them to the "How To" forum when I'm done.

I came up with a way to control both my pool pump and the pool heater using Insteon and the ISY. Currently, the timer that controls the pool pump also controls the heater. When the timer is Off, there is no power to either. When the timer is On, the pump turns on and the heater will turn on if the water temp is below the setting on the heater. My plan is to replace the timer with the Switchlinc 220v and run the program from the ISY. Then I thought, I only need the water heated on Friday and Saturday so we can swim on the weekends. So why not use a second Switchlinc 220v in series to feed power to the heater. That way, there could never be power to the heater unless there is power to the pump and I could turn the pump on without turning on the heater (for the weekdays). This morning, I had a concern. If the second Switchlinc doesn't have power, will it lose its programming? It would be powerless for about 16 hours a day. I don't have to run the two switches in series, I could power each unit seperately since the heater also senses water flow and won't turn on unless there is water flow, I wanted the extra security.

On a somewhat related note, is there any difference in the controllability and monitoring between the one day and the seven day programmable?

I was using a Netgear router/modem with wireless to control my network. Anyone who has been on this forum in the past two months must have noticed I've had small issues with reliability of some of my devices and most notably, my iPhone app (Mobilinc). Because of poor wireless coverage in my house, I decided to add an access point centrally located and disable the Netgear's wireless capability. Instantly, I noticed a faster, more reliable Insteon network. I know it doesn't make much sense (at least to me). The only explaination I can think of is that having wireless blasting in my structured wiring cabinet must have some issues for the ISY (which is mounted right next to the router). Anyway, I am very happy! I have a fast, reliable Insteon network. If anyone can explain why I experienced what I did, please do so. I like to understand technology.

I have a pair of dimmable CFL's that I use as part of my night lighting scheme. I have the Scene that the two lights reside in set to turn on to 20% at night. It works fine. Whenever I turn on any different Insteon device, the night lights flicker a couple of times. Is this normal?
-
Right now, I have about 70 Insteon devices in my house. If I buy another 70 or so devices, I can replace every light switch in the house. Will that make my Insteon network stronger? I understand that each device can re-transmit commands and so "more devices make the network stronger" but at what point do you start having diminishing returns? I have about 8000sf of living space. I'm not really experiencing network instability now but I would like to have the same switch type (look and feel) in every location but it would be very expensive and for just the look, it may not be worth it.
-
Yup, got that! I do a fair amount of installations myself but most of the time, I use a buddy that is an electrician. I'm learning alot about wiring, but even I know not to leave bare wires in the box (except for ground of course!).

On another maybe related note, I also just realized that my internet had been disabled. I live in S. Florida and we just had a decent storm with lightning and power loss for about 10 seconds. I decided to unplug the PLM and wait 10 seconds then plug it back in and the internet connection had been restored. Maybe the power outage had something to do with the Outletlinc failing? Tomorrow, I will try removing the device and then re-adding it and see if that corrects it.
-
I have a bunch of Outletlinc v3.8 installed around my house. Tonight, one of the lights that is controlled was on. I went to the ISY admin console and the status of the Outletlinc was Off. I queried the device, it still reported the status as Off (even though the light was still on). I then Restored the Outletlinc and it still reported the status as Off. I guess I have to replace the Outletlinc but I'm confused about the failure. I would think that if the device failed, it wouldn't be able to Restore. Does anyone have any experience with this type of failure and is it common to fail in this manner?

Is it required that the KPL be connected to a load? The reason I ask is that I have a KPL relay that I didn't connect the load. I just use it to run Scenes. It seems to work fine but I just wanted to know if there are any instability issues using the KPL (or any Insteon device) without the load wire connected.
-
Wow! That sounds too good to be true! I'll have to give it a try! And I don't need to buy the x-10 module (not that I don't want to financially support UD) makes it even better!
-
But I wouldn't be able to run Scenes in my ISY's programming. I wanted to be able to turn off many of the house lights when I'm in bed from my remote control. I guess I could install a KPL but it would be really slick to use remotes! Maybe you guys (UD) could make a device that is a little black box (much like the ISY) with an ir receiver on it and a LAN output that would communicate with the ISY over the network. It would have to be addressable by the ISY for security. Maybe???
-
Would I need to buy the x-10 module for ISY?
-
I actually own the X-10 ir receiver (I used it when I was using x-10 in my theater). How would I get it to send commands to Insteon? I assumed it would only send x-10.
