Oh, one more suggestion: It would be nice to have some quick way to print the Amazon Echo definitions from the ISY portal... so old guys and gals can remember how we defined 20 or 30 ior 40 devices/scenes until we learn them cold!

AWESOME! Some feedback: 1. Discovery was flawless first time (usually took a few times with HUE emulator) 2. 7 commands issued and received successfully 3. I tried dimming: Alexa, "dim foyer 50% - she asked "which device" I repeated Foyer and it went on to 50% 4. I tried dimming - "Alexa, dim foyer to 50%" - she again asked which device. I repeated foyer and it worked again. So far, so great! A couple questions 1. Is there any limit to number of devices/scenes that can be defined in ISY portal? 2. What is the expected / proper syntax for dimming? Side note: I ordered a Chip computer (http://www.getchip.com/) to try to run Hue emulator. Guess I won't need that now! Oh, darn another toy to play with!!! Great work guys! Editing with one more eccentricity I just discovered: I have 3 lights in my kitchen, each in a separate scene. I also have a scene called "all kitchen" for all 3 at once. When I say Alexa, turn on all kitchen, she replies with "I found several devices with that name which do you want?" I repeat "all kitchen" and it works. This same behavior happened twice, even when I tried to articulate more clearly the second time. small potatoes, but still feedback nonetheless.

Just a random question after poking around some other sections on the forum.... couldn't the ISY network module run the Hue emulator? I don't know much about the network module, but given that there hasn't been any suggestion of that from all the smart ISY people on this forum, I'm guessing the answer is no. I just don't know why it's no?

Chuck, I've had that issue a few times. At first I deleted all the devices known to Alexa and re-discovered, but then a bit later I just tried again (was too lazy to go upstairs to do the whole sequence) and ti worked fine. Has only happened a few times to me, but I'm only 2 days in at this point. Brad

Barry and Chuck, Thanks for the encouragement! I downloaded the configurator from Barry's page and the emulator from BWS Web site, reconfigured and all is now good! This is AWESOME! Only challenge left is for the life of me I haven't figured out how to get a batch file to run in Windows startup folder. Some days I really miss DOS! hehehe Thanks and happy new year!

Thanks, Barry and Chuck. Meanwhile, after posting, I found a recommendation to add "-Dupnp.config.address=10.0.0.6" to my emulator startup command, which I did. Alexa now finds my devices, but a new problem appeared. When I issue a command, she pauses, then states, "Sorry, the device Brads Desk is not responding. Please check it's network connection and power supply." I rebooted the ISY for kicks and giggles, but no luck. Of course, everything works fine manually, just not via Alexa. BTW... I am running the emulator on a windows 8.1 PC and I ran the config utility (thanks so much for sharing that) on same machine successfully.

I have tried to follow madmartians instructions meticulously to setup the Hue emulator. All seems to go as planned, except when I try to Discover Devices, Alexa can't find any. I assumed port conflicts, but the only one I have is port 1900 and it's all with system services, which Madmartian says to ignore. Are there other ports I should be investigating besides 8080, 1900, and 50000? Or something else I should be looking for? I just purchased First Alert ZCOMBO and added it to my network. Am using Aeotech siren (gen 5) as "repeater" - both appear to support beaming. I have included, excluded, then included again. I do see the various elements in ISY as follows: ZW 006 CO Alarm ZW 006 CO End of Life Alarm ZW 006 Heart beat ZW 006 Low Battery ZW 006 Malfunction Alarm ZW 006 Smoke Alarm ZW 006 Test Alarm But the only info I get is battery status on the "ZW 006 Smoke Alarm" line Is that the only parameter I get? So does that mean I can't send alerts via text or email based on status changes? Thanks for any help! If I can't get this one to work I will be ceasing my (costly) z-wave experimentation.

Thanks, Xanthros. Yes, I have ordered the hardware and just now ordered and installed the software. Getting closer...

My z-wave dongle/daughterboard is in the mail and I am researching all the details here on the forum. Can I install the software module before installing the dongle, or does the dongle have to be installed first? I also purchased a Danalock from SmartHome as my first Z-wave device and am looking forward to learning all about z-wave and ISY. Thanks!

Today I received my 2 new Credit Card transmitters from SmartHome. The buttons don't seem very "stiff" compared to the ones that come with IRLinc. But, assuming they are OK and just different, how do I link them to an existing IRLinc? Also, I bought a 3rd IRLinc (2411R) and when I try to linc it's credit card remote, I hold the "To Scene" for about 5 seconds as instructed but the LED never goes off. This worked flawlessly with my first two that I received about 2 weeks ago. I checked the battery with a multi-tester and it is fine (3v). How do I troubleshoot this? Or has anyone had this issue and know what's going on? Thanks and Happy New Year!

Thank you! I did see that in the manual, but at this link http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/3137-how-do-i-create-an-ir-scene-activatio-command-not-a-toggle/ someone indicated he has this behavior (or very similar) working. I just didn't understand the approach (NEC1 commands?? - never heard of that).

Hello All, and Happy Holidays. I have finally decided to get rid of the last of my X-10, which mainly means the "16-button boxes," which I had used to setup X-10 codes to manually run many of my Insteon devices. I found the IRLinc and its associated credit card controllers to be the closest replacement to the X-10 "16-button" boxes. Despite all of Insteon's greatness, affordable manual control seems to be one lacking feature (needing 4 of these boxes, the keypadlinc in the plug in enclosures just isn't really affordable). Anyhow, on to my question(s): 1. Can I have two credit card controllers control the same IRLinc receiver (2411R) 2. The credit card has four "Scene Activation" buttons. Elsewhere in the forum, I have seen reference to them acting as an "on" and "off" toggle. I have an ApplianceLinc controlling a halogen floor lamp (in a scene for that lamp) that I would like to have one of these buttons be the on/off toggle. Yet, I only get the "on" behavior, no off behavior. I can't seem to find a way to change this. Is it possible and if so, how? Thanks in advance for any advice! bfish

"Have you tried manually adding the device, inputting address and selecting the outdoor module from the drop-down box?" Yes, this is always the way I add devices. I have had complete success in the past with this method.

Actually, the symptoms are the same. It always bombed out at 7% with that error message about the Insteon engine. Nevertheless, here is the log with the module plugged very near the PLM: Mon 02/24/2014 08:52:22 PM : [27 BC 10 ] Added to list of devices to link to ISY Mon 02/24/2014 08:52:22 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 27 BC 10 0F 0D 00 Mon 02/24/2014 08:52:22 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 27.BC.10 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Mon 02/24/2014 08:52:30 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 27 BC 10 0F 0D 00 Mon 02/24/2014 08:52:30 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 27.BC.10 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Mon 02/24/2014 08:52:39 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 27 BC 10 0F 0D 00 Mon 02/24/2014 08:52:39 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 27.BC.10 0F 0D 00 06 (00) Mon 02/24/2014 08:52:43 PM : [27 BC 10 0 ] Failed to add device

Thanks, LeeG, but still no luck. I put the device one plug over from the PLM. It bombs out at 7% of "Initializing Device' every time. Could I have a faulty device?

I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum yesterday... I just acquired an on/off outdoor module (2634-222) and when trying to link it to my ISY991 Pro (firmware 3.3.10), I get an "Cannot determine Insteon Engine" error. From some forum posts it looks like a 4.xx firmware is needed in an ISY994x series to use this module, yet it is listed in my device list when I go to add it. I have moved it indoors to a known good circuit to link but got the same result. I did some serious rewiring to accommodate this module (due to unreliability of a standard switch in a very cold garage attic) and really need this to function in its place. Any ideas?

I tried that time server and get similar behavior. I have one shot at changing anything, then I have to re-boot the ISY before I can make any additional changes. At one point the red exclamation mark came up by the time server, but then went away. I made it through the start of Daylight Savings Time with no issues, but going back has been very challenging. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Good to hear jmed is back up. I do NOT have an exclamation point. What do I need to do, please?
-
Michael, I am having very similar problems. And my settings seem to match what jmed describes. Also, once I make any changes to the time (under config in admin panel), then I can't do so again without re-booting the ISY. I get a "failed to respond" error. This all took effect since DST ceased here in PA. Thoughts? Thanks, Brad

Thank you, Lee. The upgrade took care of the issue.
