  1. Ok, whats a HOP? I'll take a guess. The signal will be sent a max of 3 times, HOPS Left is how many attempts remained before the message was received? Therm (next to the DB dining room light switch) w/ lamplincs gets: Max Hops 3, Hops left 2, THEN Max hops 2, hops left 1, SOMETIMES Max Hops 1, hops left 0 on second line THEN Max Hops 1, hops left 0, SOMETIMES adds a 4th line Max Hops 2, Hops left 0 Therm (next to the DB dining room light switch) w/o lamplincs when setting setpoint down gets: Max Hops 3, Hops left 1, THEN Max hops 1, hops left 0, THEN Max Hops 1, hops left 0 Therm (next to the DB dining room light switch) w/o lamplincs when setting setpoint up gets: Max Hops 3, Hops left 2, THEN Max hops 1, hops left 0, THEN Max Hops 1, hops left 0 Dining rm light I'm getting Hops left 1, sometimes 0 and sometimes a can't communicate error (but the light does go on or off as I ask) The communication errors and Hops left 0 only started after I've been clicking around the Java applet for quite some time and adding the lamplincs. Before I added the lamplincs I was getting a constant Hops Left 1 on the dining room light with no comm errors. I get Hops Left 1 on: Kitchen light (8-10ft from dinging room) Kitchen patio (next to kitchen light) Garage light (in basement) i believe powerline only Hops Left 2 on: (a,b,c and d are in a 4 gang box 20 feet from the dining room, all DB) a)Foyer (downstairs and upstairs switches linked) b)Entrance inside (KPL c)Entrance outside d)Hallway (downstairs and upstairs switches linked) Kitchen sink light (insteon led bulb), (also 5-7 ft from the kitchen light and kitchen patio switches) Garage i/o linc (two cement walls away from the PLM in the Leviton metal enclosure) Both lamplincs I just plugged back in I'm not sure the lamplincs are helping all that much. The dining room lamplinc I tried in 2 outlets which I believe are on 2 different circuits though not sure if they are on 2 different legs. My brain is fried...
  2. Yikes! I think I know why the stat was reverting to 57. My Tstat (Work) Scene is set to 57, not 60 like I originally thought. Scenes Tstat Away-Sleep = 62 Tstat Home = 67 Tstat Weekend Home = 65 Tstat Work = 57 Week Evening If On Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri From 3:31:00PM To 11:00:00PM (same day) And Status 'Main Floor / Thermostat / Thermostat - Main' is Mode Heat And Status 'Main Floor / Away Mode- FKPL B' is Off Then Set Scene 'Scenes / Tstat (Home)' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Week Sleep If On Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri From 11:01:00PM To 5:00:00AM (next day) And Status 'Main Floor / Thermostat / Thermostat - Main' is Mode Heat And Status 'Main Floor / Away Mode- FKPL B' is Off Then Set Scene 'Scenes / Tstat (Away-Sleep)' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Week Wake Up If On Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri From 5:01:00AM To 7:00:00AM (same day) And Status 'Main Floor / Thermostat / Thermostat - Main' is Mode Heat And Status 'Main Floor / Away Mode- FKPL B' is Off Then Set Scene 'Scenes / Tstat (Home)' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Week Day If On Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri From 7:01:00AM To 3:30:00PM (same day) And Status 'Main Floor / Thermostat / Thermostat - Main' is Mode Heat And Status 'Main Floor / Away Mode- FKPL B' is Off Then Set Scene 'Scenes / Tstat (Work)' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Though we may have found why the therm goes to 57 at times, at least you can look at my programs to see if I should adjust anything. My question now is, why when I changed the set point with mobilinc to 58, 59, etc did it revert back to 57 after refreshing the therm in mobilinc? Shouldn't I be able to override the program manually, at least until the next program time hits? I apologize for the confusion.
  3. Egg on my face. I didn't even know there was an alternative to paying the yearly fee. I'm sure if I simply look on this section of the forum I'll find how to do it lol Thanks guys!
  4. 2441TH - INSTEON Thermostat OK. I don't own that model so maybe someone else can comment on it's desire to return to 57. I still don't believe it should do that on its own. I believe this IS the model reported with a very directional antenna so IO am going to stick with my recommendation to install an access point across from it. -Xathros Will do. I'll respond to your request above later tonight as well.
  5. 2441TH - INSTEON Thermostat
  6. Ok, you've given me homework in two threads lol. I'll take care of both when I get home and report back. Thank you so much!
  7. Ah ok. I remember reading about that when I first started looking into insteon a year and a half ago. I disregarded it since I was putting DB devices everywhere and since haven't had an issue. My PLM is in my basement utility room in a Leviton Enclosure plugged into a Leviton 47605-DP AC Power Block. I wrote off the fact that it's sending RF lol. Other than this therm issue, I haven't had any com issues that I've noticed. I will def install the lamplincs as I mentioned in a previous post. I will also note which leg each access point falls on.
  8. I will post some therm programs tonight. I just checked again (mobilinc) and the therm is now reading 61 (from 61.5) and the setpoint is back to 57. When I change it to 59...after about 5-10 seconds and a refresh, it's back to 57. The daytime temp program is 60. Interesting... I just set it to 63, started calling for heat and after a refresh, reverted back to 57, heating now off of course. If I set it to 63, then close mobilinc on my iphone then reopen, the therm still reads 63 and heating. If i hit the little refresh button on the therm section of mobilinc, it goes back to 57
  9. Not sure I understand what you mean by an access point for coupling the legs of the electrical mains? I currently have 0 access points in my system. Would a lamp linc act as an access point? (2457D2 LampLinc - INSTEON Plug-In Lamp Dimmer Module (Dual-Band), 2-Pin) I usually use one in my living room, diagonally from the therm when I throw up my Chrstimas tree. I could just leave it plugged in all year even though nothing is plugged into it for 10 months. If not, I'll pick up an access point on my next order. edit: just read on smarthome that the lamplincs double as access points. I have two of them for christmas lights. One for the dining room tree and one for the living room tree. I'll just leave one or both plugged in all year. No biggie.
  10. The programs are in the ISY. I never set a default setpoint in the therm or in the ISY (if that's even possible). The only thing I did with the stat other than install it was match it to the old therm as far as temp was concerned. The isnteon therm was showing 3 degrees colder.
  11. Understood. If it happens again I will check at the therm. Also, it seems it just may make sense to plug in an access point. I'll add that to the list of items for my next order. Is it ok if the access point is around a corner behind my tv media center? The media center is not right up against the wall. There would be a good 2-3ft between the access point and the media center. It's in a corner.
  12. No issues with the switchlinc in the dining room. The dining room SL is about 2 inches from the therm. I have another DB SW in the kitchen about 10ft from the therm. 3 DB SW's about 20ft away in the foyer and another DB SW in the study about 15ft from the therm. It's just odd to me that the therm set point read 67, room temp 62 but no heat. I'll monitor it of course.
  13. I have a dual band switchlinc right next to it for the dining room light. I do remember the setpoint being 67 but the room temp 62 and the therm wasn't calling for heat. I was viewing through mobilinc...under my blanket, remember? Once I bumped the temp up to 68, the therm stated calling for heat.
  14. Yes! You can use a substitution variable in the email notification to reference the thermostats Status (temp). The would look like: $(sys.node.11 22 AA 1.ST) where 11 22 AA is the addrrss of the stat. Awesome! That sounds to me like the setpoint. That should be whatever your program had set for a setpoint. Does that change when you press the up or down buttons on the stat? Yes it does. The only time I see 57 seems to be when there is no need for a program to call for anything. For instance, if it's 5pm where a the program would call for 67 but the house is 68+, I see 57 in the bottom left. When the therm states "Heating", I see the programs called for temp in the bottom left, not 57. The stat operates independently of the ISY. No program need to execute when the stat calls for heat or is satisfied unless you are logging or taking some other actions based on that data. If the set point is not changing based on your programs, you may have a comm issue between the stat and the ISY. Can you read the current temp from the admin console and can you manually change the setpoint from the console and have those changes reflected at the display on the stat? I am at work now and can read the current room temp at 61.5 (maybe my program calls for 60 not 62 at this hour) and the called for temp is 57. I just hit the up arrow and it went to 58, 59 etc. Do you think now that I've changed it, the set point will remain at 59 at the therm and not revert to 57?
  15. Ah very cool. I'm not sure I understand variables just yet. When I get some time to experiment, I will take a crack at this. It is nice to know it's possible, even with some effort. Lord knows, after installing 20+, setting up various programs for most, linking, etc...why stop now.
  16. Xathros, first thank you! Can the current room temp somehow be included in the notification message? I notice that when the room temp is above the temp that the program at the time would call for, temp at the bottom of the therm always read 57, not the temp the program would call for. Is that the set point should the ISY not communicate to the therm? If so, I'm assuming I can check the manual on how to raise that? Also, because a program is activated through the ISY when the room temp reaches the activating temp, when the room temp is higher than the program, the ISY is not communicating to the therm, thus the 57 (default temp of therm out of the box), correct? Just confirming that I understand this correctly. I always found it odd to see "57" but now that I'm thinking through it, it's starting to make sense...I think. Thanks again.
  17. Hello all, I run an Insteon thermostat using only programs through the ISY. I have 7 total programs. Weekday: "wakeup"-67 5:01am-7am, day-62 7:01am-3pm, evening-67 3:01-11pm & sleep-62 11:01am-5am. Weekend: day-65 7:30am-5pm, evening-67 5:01-11pm & sleep-62 11:01-7:29am. How would one go about setting a fail-safe for the thermostat just in case all programs fail and/or isy loses power? For instance if temp reached 60, hold 60. Would that be through the thermostat it self? Can I also have the ISY notify me if the temp does drop below 60 degrees and notify me every 30 minutes until the temp reaches above 60 (this assuming the isy didn't lose power but maybe the programs failed to make the changes called for)? If anyone has any other suggestions on how they are doing something like this, please feel free to share! I am open to any and all suggestions. Thank you, Jerry
  18. Hello all, Running Insteon Therm and ISY. A friend of mine has a Nest and mentioned that it logs every time his therm goes on and logs how long it stays on for. I'm sure it does other things but I didn't ask any further questions, it was just in passing. My question to y'all is, can the Insteon thermostat be set up to do something similar whether through programming or emailing... something along those lines. I'd love to have it (while also using the Weather Bug module) log when the thermostat goes on, what the inside temp is, outside temp is and how long the thermostat calls for heat. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this or something similar/as useful? Thank you, Jerry
  19. Hello all, I run an Insteon thermostat using only programs through the ISY, this is our first winter since installing it in August this year in NY. I have 7 total programs. Weekday: "wakeup"-67 5:01am-7am, day-62 7:01am-3pm, evening-67 3:01-11pm & sleep-62 11:01am-5am. Weekend: day-65 7:30am-5pm, evening-67 5:01-11pm & sleep-62 11:01-7:29am. We also use an "Away Mode" that overrides any program and runs the therm at 62, when "Away Mode" is off, the thermostat programs take back over. In the last month or so since we've needed to call for heat, everything has been working fine including away on and off, until this morning. My wife wakes up earlier than me, thus the weekday wake up therm program. As she was leaving for work, she told me that the house was freezing (I was still under the blanket ). So I whipped out my phone and saw that the house temp was 62 and the therm was calling for 67 BUT "Heating" was not taking place. I then raised the temp 1 degree from mobilinc and "Heating" started. Lowered back to 67 and heating continued until 7am, when the next program takes over. I then checked to make sure "Away Mode" was not "On" and it was not, we hadn't used away since the evening before and the house heated fine that night and throughout yesterday. Also, this has only happened once so far. Any idea what happened here? Does this happen from time to time with the Insteon Thermostat or ISY where one or both kinda just forget or get locked up? Is there any way to help avoid this from happening in the future?
  20. Thank you for your suggestions. I ran just a two wire since I had 50ft of it. As long as the micro switch sends the signal over the powerline, it should be good. The box is metal and water proof so l go with the exterior location. Now if smarthome would give another decent discount I can order a bunch of new insteon pieces!
  21. Xathros, Any idea if running a wire back to my interior box to the inlinelinc would be the way to go? I would only have to run the hot from the motion sensor as the neutral will already be in the box (inside the garage). OR Would I simply leave the inlinelinc in the exterior box?
  22. Hello all. I am about to install a RAB Lighting STL360HBW Super Stealth 360 Sensor with HB101 Bullet Floods above my garage door. I will also be running 10-15 feet of new electrical to a newly installed exterior box above the garage that the light will be mounted to. The RAB motion sensor connects to the neutral and hot wire, the flood light white wires go to neutrals and the black wires go to the red wire from the motion sensor. The motion sensor sends power to the red wire when motion is detected turning on the lights. Is there any way to have an ISY triggered in some way to send me a message that the light has been turned on when motion is sensed? Can I run a wire back from the motion sensors red wire to an insteon device to then have that insteon device see power and trigger the message? As always, thank you in advance! Jerry
  23. hbsh01, It seems like we are in the same boat. Were you ever able to resolve the problem? ~Jerry
