Who has Zigbee door locks? They really do a poor job of advertising this stuff. Walking the local homedepot you see a few "zwave" locks but they don't advertise that they are compatible. they want their proprietary service sold instead. . My wife has expressed some interest in knowing WHO opened the door when and getting a notification.

One other observation, is do you want the lights to ALWAYS turn off 2 hours later, e.g. someone is in the kitchen cutting with a knife and the lights go OFF. Might be a good idea to check for a control of the kitchen light in another program and stop this program from turning them off.

It's not free, but I have been using dreamhost for a few years on their crazy insane domain account. About $11 a month which basically gives me unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage (although they claim they only allow 50gbs for backup (I have a _bit_ more than that used). They support vanity urls so I send my isy requests there with a customer url off my web domain. Also use it to route my mail, etc. There is full shell access, mysql, perl etc, so it is literally like having a server in a rack someplace far off.

Doing more reading on the IR, I see the ISY-994I seems to only support the Phillips RC 5 protocol for receiving IR on it's own? Still digging around on what exactly the iTach IR2IP does when you put one of the transmitters into sensor mode: [Global Cache Website:quote]3 Independent selectable IR outputs or sensor inputs What I am after is the ability of my ISY to respond to certain remote codes from my bevy of 4 remotes I have now, Yamaha, Tivo, Panasonic, and Samsung. E.g. it knows someone is home if a remote code is used, and therefore won't plunge us into darkness. e.g. when I hit the Tivo button, I want the TV to turn on, turn on the amp, wait 10 seconds, set the tivo input on the amp (the tv changes it ). When I kit a KPL I want a movie mode to run, which I think I have pretty much down, but looking for that last piece of IR data to be brought INTO the ISY.

Ralph, just a stab in the dark, try right clicking on the node in the tree and choose diagnostics, querry insteon engine. Then try setting the button again for it's mode. Does the ISY show it as a 8 button device or a 6 button device in the tree?

I was expecting, that when the iTach IR2IP receives a code, it would put it out over the TCP port to the ISY. Now I understand I have to buy the network module to have the ISY SEND the codes to the iTach IR2IP, but what do I need to do have the ISY receive and process IR codes from the iTach IR2IP? My ISY is the 994i. Yes, I found that after learning for a while it's controlled by the 1:1 at the start of the commands, the first 1 of the 1:1 being the device and the second being the port to emit it. So 1:3 is device 1 port 3 and I have that figured out in the commands. Only running one port this moment, but will get the other couple up and going. I am afraid that only having 3 ports on the iTach will be problem because I have 3 pieces of equipment spread out and I need to turn one port, it appears, into a receiver instead of a sender and that will be an issue.

I got the iTach IP2IR today and it does have the ability to "learn" a code. You really have to be right up on that little port on the backside to get it, but it will pick it up. Your post helped me a bit, I was struggling with why I could pull the code in GC format, hit the HEX button and then I could not send it. Now I get I have to convert it back to GC format or cut and paste the hex into a converter. I will give that a try next. I found some discrete ON and OFF codes for the receiver and got them converted to the GC format. Very pumped about that. [Yamaha On] sendir,1:1,1,39000,1,1,341,170,21,21,21,63,21,21,21,63,21,63,21,63,21,63,21,21,21,63,21,21,21,63,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,63,21,63,21,21,21,63,21,63,21,63,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,63,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,63,21,63,21,63,21,1506,341,85,21,3637 [Yamaha Off] sendir,1:1,1,39000,1,1,341,170,21,21,21,63,21,21,21,63,21,63,21,63,21,63,21,21,21,63,21,21,21,63,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,63,21,21,21,63,21,63,21,63,21,63,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,63,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,21,63,21,63,21,63,21,1507,341,85,21,3637 Now did I miss that the iTach IR2IP will NOT send back codes it receives? Maybe that is where I have to put in a IR Blaster so I can receive and send. Have to try and figure that out tomorrow.
-
Well, I am hoping it will send any code it receives to the ISY, did I mis-understand how it will work? E.g. I want to reset my timers for lights off with any IR codes received, control my receiver to set it up properly, adjust the lighting with pause and play, etc.
-
Fabulous! What else did you need to buy to make it all work, some emitters, particular kind? Read that at least one kind (didn't specify) that the ir blasters were not very strong. I have a few extra of those laying around from tivos and old cable boxes with a mouse etc, don't know if they all will work or not. Alan

Wondering your fellows experience with the Global Cache IP2IR controller with your ISY's. My AV receiver does not have an ethernet or serial control port, just IR (Yamama RX 567 I think it is), the Samsung LCD, panasonic blu-ray, tivo, etc) It's frustrating turning on the equipment and the tv always moves the input to AV4 instead of my tivo. I would like to program a KPL button into a scene to bring the tv on, flip the receiver on, etc. or at least have a "device" in my mobilinc to do this so I don't have to hunt 4 remotes all the time. Is everyone that has one of the global cache happy with it? Good sale at smarthome this weekend at $94 from $139 and then 10% off and free shipping with their superbowl special. Alan

so a trip through costco showed me what a "bypass" humidifier is. Not sure I want a big ugly pipe running from one plenum to the other plenum. All you fellows out there with humidifiers, would you mind chiming in on how they have been, how you automate them and would you do it again? This one below is not mine. My plenums are not straight up and down at all, and I have not been convinced that having a bypass type humidifier is ok on a slope.

Well, there is a former Elk signal meter that was used for X10 that does show the voltage on the line even with Insteon. I owe someone one here a movie of how it works. It's a pretty good light show when you change a scene with a few kpl's and switch lincs involved! But you can see visually if you have a signal sucker and if the filter made a difference. The last signal sucker I found was my washing machine!

Just a dumb newbie question, but why would a motion sensor trigger control? Nothing was touched like we do a switch. Now status makes more sense to me as a motion sensor, because the status changes to ON motion to OFF no motion.

I am trying to get my head around network resources. So the simple Get just requests a page from the server, and your page happens to be a perl script that gets run? That being similar in concept to a wget command from the command line. So by theory, we could have any perl script called because the webserver can run it when requested by a page hit. Your server is running Apache, or maybe misterhouse with it's little webserver or ?? Always been a bit concerned with security with a webserver running because they just seem to have lots of open vulnerabilities.

Do you think having the UV lamp has helped? I want mine right over the coils, but the HVAC guy plans a bypass humidifier right there and the UV folks say that will damage the plastic of the humidifier. Which means moving the humidifier or going to a steam unit for more money.
-
the dry dry dry winter here has me thinking of putting in a humidifier shortly along with supported thermostats (thinking I will go Ecobee betting on the come of the built in support). What kind of humidifiers are you guys controlling? Would you buy the same kind again? Personally I am leaning towards a Honey Trusteam unit with a remote kit (boy a tube and a hose are expensive) and putting a UV lamp in. Would probably tie that UV lamp into the fan relay somehow, but may just put an appliancelinc on it and use the Thermostat to tell me when the fan is on and run the UV lamp. Figure i could get quite a bit more life out of the lamp that way. Do you guys just run your main furnace fan every once in a while to stir the air a bit or ?? Thanks Alan

+1 on that! Used to do tech support on the side, making house calls, etc. Even when it was free it was never fast enough, got tired of the nagging and just stopped doing it over time. I would hope the new homeowner knows something about basic household wiring, because the joint I got here is not consistent from box to box, let along trying to troubleshoot remotely a communications problem or something else. Just think of trying to explain that they need a filter for $20 on anything electronic they plug in!

Could you share which Foscam you bought too? How is the resolution of them, how do they do at night outside?
-
I would think if you have integrated sprinkers, cameras, and touch screens around the home, then you could use it as a selling point in the pricing. But I would make a counter taking that all out of the price, but keeping it on my side if I was the buyer! Maybe with the dashboards and outside apps, we can get some <$100 tablets to mount on the walls for camera access etc. Alan

I think he meant that those thermostats think the humidity in the house is 80 something %, which is tropical in nature and if you had a greenhouse would be great. Did I win the guess what he meant cupid doll? Reading about humidity in the house, they recomend the amount based on the outside temperature ranges. Don't know if the furnace tstats are smart enough for that.

Michael, what's the process with Smarthome to get a V35 device replaced? I have both a switchlinc dimmer AND a switchlinc relay. I have noticed one relay it a little flakey. Also on the Keypad does it actually have V2A or V2D on the version, mine seem to be all V2# <= no letters

I would think the strobstropic effect of on 1 second off 1 second (giving some time to respond etc) might be a little much. Maybe leave a few key lights on to aid escape in the house.

We are hoping they open up the api sometime. There on the other thread was some network control via the hub of a few things, but why these companies don't open up more just hurts their expansion in the market. Alan

What does a level three detail show for hops? Are you getting 0 remaining a lot? But one would think across the room they would work great. I have a motion sensor that is flaky to an access point 6 feet away..
