A couple of 2443 access points should do it. I pick mine up from Ebay, but lately got a bunch of stuff when smarthome did their 20% sale. A whole lot of items now are dual band so anything you buy going forward would probably help. The exception seems to be the keypad units so far. I personally, am hopping for a significant improvement to the product. I have a motion sensor that just does not seem to work real well too. It's 6 feet from an access point and does not always report every motion. The settings show it as supposed to send ON all the time with motion. I just bought a new one on the sale in December and it arrived last week. I will take a look at the chart function to see if it has day long gaps like another sensor I have.

Maybe I mis-uinderstand how things work as a newbie. But if you were able to set the local on level to 50%, not just the scene level, that when you hit the switch once it would go to 50% and a double tap to 100%. I have a couple switches set like this in the basement. One tap and I have it go slowly to 35% over 4.5 seconds. A double tap takes it to 100% instantly. Alan

I want a notification when the heat in the shop turns on or off. I got 1, and only 1 message ever from this program. if I manually click and chose run the if or run the else, I get no email. If Status 'Shop_Heat' is On Or Status 'Shop_Heat' is Off Then Send Notification to 'Alan_Only.2' content 'Shop Heater' Else Send Notification to 'Alan_Only.2' content 'Shop Heater' I suppose logically I should not check for the off status, because the else would run if the ON was false.

If you press the set button and watch the access point, does the access point LED flash? Then put the ISY into event viewer level three and see if you get any activity on the line. Personally not sure if the device has to be known to the ISY to see it there. Alan

There is exactly step by step in the wiki. I set up, my garage with it and ordered normally closed reed switches from Ebay. Sent from my Sony Tablet S using Tapatalk HD

Sorry if this is not helpful, I only glanced down the thread. There is normally a spot in to assign a specific MAC address a fixed, static IP and the router will be happy. Always informative around here, I did not know there were routers that didn't work with non router assigned IP addressed. I had to assign several fixed IP's on my network because the cable modem wont' let devices get DHCP after some window of time, and it's a pain to run around checking 20 devices to see if they got an address!

How far does the zwave typically go? Will we make it through 2 aluminum sided walls, or should I plan on some sort of relay set up or something to take zwave onto the powerline to get to the isy? Alan
-
Man, I am glad I didn't buy one of those. I'm trying to find a thermostat for radiant. Looks like a nice touchscreen honeywell has great reviews and Zwave. Just don't know if the isy will support it. Alan
-
First, what Zwave thermostats are compatible with the ISY 994i that I buy the zwave board for someday? The reliability and the reviews of the smarthome and venstar units seem pretty bad. Reading review on a Honeywell zwave thermostat was all 5 star compared to as many 1 star as 5 star with the insteon capable thermostats. I don't have a traditional furnace in this application at all. It's a from scratch set up and I'd like not to have to have 5 or 6 different things all connected to get control of this heat system through my ISY and therefore from my cell with Mobiconnect.

Yeah it's flakey, not dropping off for hours or days this week, but it's amazing you can teleport into the medi room without using the stairs around 11 this morning! can you manually turn on the valves through the ISY directly?

Nothing on 900 I can think of. The phones are up in the 2.4 or the 5 range. I have three access points within 20' and no more than 1 wall from both the motion sensors. One sensor keeps pretty steady, but goes away enough to notice. A second motion sensor is maybe 7 feet from my most flaky sensor. I just received a third motion sensor brand new from Smarthome yesterday. No problem linking it, but I could wave and wave infront of it, watch the red light and it would not show up on the logs. Press the button and lots of log entries. I've moved it upstairs now, will check it after everyone heads off to school and such to see what's the report frequency.

I'm using a occupancy program to handle the basement lights, works great most of the time, but I have noticed that there can be long periods (days even), but normally some hours, that one or 2 of the sensors just are not seen on the network any more. if I come along press the set button one time, then they may work for a few days again and then stop (like to day at 5:46) they blink but nothing in a level 2 or three log. Are these 2420M sensors just too flake to use? It's a pain for the lights to turn off 20 minutes earlier than they are supposed to.
-
I linked up one of these same motion sensors yesterday with the new part numbers on them. No problem. One would think with the sensor sitting right next to the PLM, that you would not be seeing 1 hop left and 0 hope left.
-
Well, at 1 minute, what do you expect them to do? Turn on and off every minute or so like a light show? Extend the time to like 15 minutes or 30 minutes. It might give you a more human touch.

I just applied it myself, will see if it makes a difference. So far I have enjoyed no java in browsing..
-
it does sound confusing. Let me know how that device works out for you and if you think it saves you enough money to make it worthwhile. Personally I would buy the same unit you did, if I don't specifically have the device "on" I want the water heater to be able to work. I can see getting that backwards pretty easy.

I normally have the kids text, but it would be nice to verify that they really ARE home when they text me saying they are home. Trust but verify. That program up above is pretty slick. And welcome aboard, I spend a lot of time looking for other peoples ideas of how to make things better and easier on the family. They all think I am nuts until my wife gets into a nice warm bed automatically each night, the lights in the bathroom don't blind you at 2:00 am, and you don't have to get out of bed to turn off the lights at night when you are nice and toasty. Next for me is the garage monitoring, will be working on that Monday evening. The other day Smarthome had the $20.00 custom buttons again, I am told, that they increase family utilization when they don't have to keep track of what button A does vs D vs ON.

How do I get the admin console and the dashboard java applets running on a android tablet?
-
it was a bad link, look at the link when you copy it and you will see it says 99, instead of 99i like the admin link does. fix it and you can get the dashboard.

In a hobby room, I would like to control the lights when someone has left it for a while (I know buy a motion sensor). Anyone know of a wrapper program for the screen saver that would do a rest command to the ISY that would allow a program to know someone is still in the hobby room? second, to use the rest commands, do I need to buy the network module, or is that only needed if I want to have some network functions in my programs? alan

Lee, are you aware of any products that show the actual work the AP do? E.g. some level of debugging in houselinc that shows when they repeat a message?
-
Well, that is pretty cool. Did not even think about a wait minute, had thought out some incrementing variable, pretty slick. And I had no idea about the disable program function. I may have to use that to not let the upstairs lights turn off in certain time frames based on other conditions around. My motion sensor for the living room comes monday from the sale. Now just where to put it without SWMBO complaining. I have thought about putting it on the refrigerator, that sucker is always getting opened by the kids! Thank you again!
-
Did some forum searching and did not happen to pull up a thread that may have some of this in there, pointers appreciated. What I want is when one of the kids gets home, I want to get an email. (cannot get texts, don't have that service) so I am thinking of a if that runs from noon to 3 or so and any light being turned on or motion will send out the notification. I only want one, so need to set a variable too and put that in there. And only on weekdays, which means I need to find the date programs and variables and install that too. Anything I'm forgetting that you have all blazed a trail on already? I was also thinking it would be nice to know how long the house has been unoccupied, suggestions on how to track and "report" on that one in a notification. Thank you Alan

What was the ultimate solution to this issue? I'm chasing a few suckers around here and there and wondering if this little filter works OK or not.
