Thats a lot of programs for such a simple task. You could simplify it by simply stating if the status of the light is off and the fan is on, wait x amount of time then turn the fan off.

The 6 button keypad shows up as 5 buttons since the on and off buttons are tied together. Outside of changing it to 8 button configuration, there are technically only 5 programmable buttons

I'd create a single scene with all devices that you want on as a responder. That way you lessen the chance of something potentially getting missed when each scene is activated

My concern is that it's for the independent user not a company like UDI. If they develop for it, how many problems would that cause them. I wouldn't want to see them tied up in litigation trying to help a few and the company suffers on the whole

Thanks for that info. I'm going to have to look into that since half the work is done now. Lol. It would be a good way integrate into my RTI I've been trying to think of reasons to add it to the ISY but since I've gotten it, I've never felt the need to interfere with it. The only reason I could think of was if I needed to go into the yard. With summer approaching, I may add a program that stops it the day of planned events/yard useage

I went with the rain machine for my irrigation needs. While I cant control it from the ISY, it took much less programming and hopefully (time will tell) last longer than the ez flora. It does have a rest API so if ever needed, I could technically control it with the ISY as well. At this time however, its interface does all that I need it to do.

That's not possible. The ISY will always be able to issue commands just like the switch will always be able to work locally. With that said, if you're trying to keep programs from running if you manually turn a switch on (such as an auto timer), you could disable a program if a switch is manually turned on

Hue never designed their bulbs to be used with regular switches. They were designed to be used with their app and other automation technologies. It's not their fault when someone uses them outside the way that they were designed. It does suck in the case of a power outage but at the same time how often is that? I feel automation is a life adjustment. In some ways you have to learn a new way of doing things. If you're going to continue with the same methods what's the point! In the end whether it's investing in hue's switches for manual control or (in the time) to program an insteon/or zwave switch, do it right or don't do it.

That's what I did when I built my house. I labeled each box to where it was supposed to go and added it to the ISY. Then I set all the links for scenes and write the programs that I wanted. When the house was done, I simply hooked up the ISY, turned linking back on and let it set the scenes and programs. Saved me a hell of a lot of time that I didn't have when I moved.

It's like that because you have no clause to disable it. You say allow to run at 5 on those days but there is no clause that says turn off. It should be from 5-501 allow these programs to run. (Example). At 5 it would turn green allowing whatever program to run and at 501 it would turn red preventing it from running. With that said, the program running itself would be determined by what you wrote.

I use the sensor to light up my kpl when the door is open and programs to actually control the door. So far it's worked really well. I use the seco-larm normally open/close so I don't need to use the reverse trigger.

Insteon as with any company has improved its product over time. Whether its due to advances in technology or time, its signalling capability has improved tremendously over time. As Teken has stated, RF is not the end all to everything. There are cases where Zwave works better than insteon and there are cases where Insteon works much better than zwave. For example, Ive seen a 4 story stone house with concrete (patios out back) all over along with very thick and dense walls. Zwae could not communicate at all to devices a floor above/below. Even within the same level, the signal was hit or miss. The homeowner switched over to Insteon and everything worked without issues (lighting is on its own separate panel). Even in smaller installations with RF issues, the insteon powerline signal can overcome potential distance issues or RF issues. Due to powerline issues, RF can help but due to how Insteon works, Zwave may be a better fit. There is no single perfect protocol.

The 2487s is the relay version of the dimmable kpl. I'd take problems with the kpl (or any device for that matter) with a grain of salt. You never know the full story of how it was used. I've seen people have too many bulbs on a dimmer, incompatible bulbs (non dimmable), or in a bad environment, yet they blame the device when something goes wrong. I've also seen people say they had stuff for x amount of time yet when you look at the model# or rev it'll be much older than they state. That's not saying it can't fail. Since the kpl is electronic it will at some point. I'm just saying take things with a grain of salt I use mostly kpls in my setup and have found them to be pretty rock solid. With the capability/complexity of the kpl, there can be some difficulty (to me I don'tthink it's any different than any other device)in programming which can lead to mistakes and the mistaken belief that the device is bad. Overall (for me) Ithink it's one of insteon best devices

It can be depending on the load. Especially with all 3 switches on at the same time. Keep in mind they are electronic switches unlike standard dummy switches. Each switch would need to be de-rated due to heat buildup when used side by side.

When you put a kpl in a scene as a controller you will eat up the largestamount of links which is another reason I do all responders and simply let the kpl trigger be done via the ISY. While it does make my system dependent on the ISY, the likelihood of a failure is small and off it happens, my lights simply stay on for a day. Sucks but not the end of the world

I break my all off/away scenes down into zones. The devices are in each scene as responders you have yours set. I start with everything within visual range first to cut off simply for instant gratification and out of visual range devices (zones) goes off subsequently. This way I have the appearance of instant shutoff without dealing with the possibilities of missed signals from extremely large scenes. I like this manner as well since it allows someone else who may want different to come in and easily redo my setup.

I left my old stuff in the house and just bought me stuff since technology changes. I didn't want to reuse older equipment. It worked out because I was able to set up and do some programming prior to moving which cut down on the work once we moved into our new house. Since I use alot of programs it made it easier for the new owner to set up the system the way they wanted to without much work.
