  1. Insteon has more talent than people realize. Unfortunately in many ways they were shackled due to the lack of focus from leadership. While I too wish they utilized 3rd party more, I understood the hesitation and lack of interest in having other companies churn out insteon products (look at how fractured zwave is). I think this will change in time as the interest of new ownership isn't to keep everything in house. They really didnt let business slip away. To a certain degree yes but overall No. From the outside looking in, its easy to call someone out on something. However from the inside the story is much much different (look at Trump. Forever criticizing Obama but then finds out what that life is really like once he took office). As they restructure under new leadership, I think you will see a difference. It may not be what you want personally (they will always go towards their market despite what power users want), but in time you will see a better company.
  2. A rev can change simply due to something being mfg. from a different company such as a casing. It may not be for the same exact reason in regards to capacitors. The reasons for sourcing can simply be they found cheaper components, mfg. stopped producing a certain item, or changing the build process. I've seen revs change simply because they put a new QSG in the box or changed the outside of the box itself.
  3. I would write a program based on the control of the 2635 pretty much the same way you wrote it for the kpl. Instead of using the scene you would simply control the device from the app. You could then write a program that turns on the kpl button based on the status of the 2635 changing

The group allows you to simply say turn your lights on/off without having to say what room you are in. The old way you had to specify which room. How else would the system know what room you are specifically talking about? Keep in mind this is still the early stages of automation. Things will take time before our systems know exactly what we are referring to. Note, you can still use spoken commands if you want to turn off another set of light. For example. If you're in the livingroom and want to turn off those lights, simply say turn off the lights. If you want to turn off the kitchen. Lights while in your livingroom, then you would say, turn off the kitchen lights
  5. Sounds cool but I found receiving a text message much simpler since I don't have to ask. Should any battery powered device need new batteries, I will receive an alert stating exactly which device needs changing, what type of battery, and how many. This way I can always go back to the message for reference instead of hoping to remember based off a query
  6. Yes. In programs you would simply say: If Button A is fast on
  7. If I single tap my family room goodnight button, it will set the downstairs lights on timers, turn on the hallway and step lights leading to the bedrooms, and lock the doors etc. Double tapping the same button will do the same as well as set my bedroom up the way I like when I am going to bed.
  8. Add all of your devices to a scene at the levels you want them to be (in your case off). Add the lamp to the scene at the level you want it to turn on. Create another scene and put the kpl button in as a responder. The next part is how I do mine but can be done differently. I have a program written that turns on my scene (which turns out off) then another line that turns off the button. You could add your button to the scene as a controller should you choose. I use a program because I have different scenes run based off a single tap vs double tap. If control A is turned on Set all off scene ON WAIT 2 seconds Set Scene Button A off
  9. Perfectly said! I'm my use case, that second is insignificant. A dark room is a different story
  10. I have modules controlling my flood light instead of being wired directly to a switch. My setup is similar to Oberkc in that if the button is manually turned on or my outdoor entertainment button is on then my motion program is disabled. Just in case we go to bed without turning off the scene or lights, the ISY will automatically re-enable the flood light. I use programs as I feel it gives me the most possibilities. The split second that it takes them to run isn't a detriment for me since they turn on when I need them to.
  11. That's true about the echo but I've found it to be much faster to hit a button than tell Alexa to do something. Besides that, what happens should there be food issues? I prefer Google home and the echo to be secondary/supplemental rather than primary control.
  12. I'd say 2019 for legacy products. Newer companies perhaps. I think the low price offererings will be the last to change
  13. I use the nest protect. I like them. They still work locally if servers are down. While I'd prefer locally based alerts, the ease of use vs server fails Trump's it being cloud based
  14. I agree with Teken. The open/close sensor was not designed for security and should not be used for such. If a person wants security they should get a security system. Use the proper tools for the job at hand. Just like Teken says, commercial and residential are 2 different beasts. The avg consumer would rip their sensors out if they were changing batteries every 6 months.
  15. Very true and sad. That's why I limit my zwave use
  16. Make sure that the zwave switches you have support instant Status, otherwise you may not like the results
  17. This is why I love the ecobee 3 so much. It allows you to do so much without having to have a controller tell it what to do.

You were clear. However you have to take into consideration each link that is not made due to having no controllers as part of a scene. With a large number of devices (including keypads) that can add up quickly. A small install would not matter but as you approach high numbers, it can matter greatly
  19. lilyoyo1 replied to Wildstar's topic in ISY994
I said all were responders and there are no controllers as part of large scenes. Only the ISY.
  20. My guess is that the programs are firing to quickly and something is getting lost. If you haven't done so already, create a scene with all of those devices in it as responders and simply turn off that scene like Techman said.
  21. lilyoyo1 replied to Wildstar's topic in ISY994
I do the same as Stusviews. For my large scenes I avoid direct links and use programs instead. I create a scene and put everything in as a responder. I then write a program that activates the scene once the button is pressed. While there are downsides to doing it this way, the pros outweigh the cons.
  22. Does your ISY detect all of your other devices?
  23. I think that was for simplicity not in ndicative of their thoughts on any specific technology. Many of the most popular bulbs use zigbee such as hue and lightify. Those same customers are using their echos to control them so they went with their base
  24. It's not a replacement but I didn't feel like going through details
  25. I agree with Teken. While I thinkI will always use the portal, I would rather own the network module as that is most important to my setup
