  1. 2424u or 2414u? The 2414u will not work as it is a controller itself.
  2. Its not a liquidation. Its their labor day sale. It will be the last sale until Black friday.
  3. I agree with @MrBill. I highly doubt the switches are bad. Going off what you've said, i suspect noise issues
  4. I think people just want to see new features added in general since they are continually paying $100.00+ a year for the app via the subscription model. Even for the direct method, 75.00 is still a lot to many people not to see any upgrades in over a year. I think the op mentioned what he was looking for in the first post.
  5. That's already been covered. Asbril was trying to avoid the light fixture which led to the question
  6. You'll want the PD-5ws
  7. It can work without a neutral. Did you need dimming or on/off
  8. You would require the caseta bridge and the nodeserver in order to use it with the isy. I do not see why you would have any issues with caseta in that location
  9. I used to be that way when it comes to needing a bunch of kpls. Over time I've moved away from them. I still have them from my previous setup and for manual control should the Isy fail. Depending on the room a person is in, my lights will automatically turn on depending on how dark it is. They'll gradually ramp up the darker it gets until at full brightness. As it gets later into the evening/night, they'll slowly start to dim. Outdoor lighting comes on automatically including accent lights in the yard. I do use a keypad to determine if it's me or the wife on the patio. However, if neither hits the button and someone is out there as it gets dark, the light will still come on the way it does inside. If music is on and someone turns on the tv, volume will automatically reduce. It also reduces the later it gets at night. In the bathrooms, depending on the day and time frame, certain things can happen. For example, take a shower on a Friday evening, the music will start playing. Conversely, turning the bathroom music on at night will automatically set the bathroom up to take a shower. While my bedroom kpl has a button for kitchen path light, the simple act of walking out of the bedroom will trigger it as well. No need to hit the button. It's like that for all bedrooms. This is why I say kpls aren't needed as much for me anymore
  10. It's about the situation. A person has to assess their needs and desires and choose what best fits them. When it comes to performance Caseta is much more reliable than zwave will ever be and you do not have the popcorn effect. That's a non starter for me period. If that doesn't bother you, then zwave is sufficient. Not everyone needs keypads. Besides, what keypads do you really have with zwave that's on par with insteons? The beauty of the Isy is that you can mix and match things. If keypads are needed there are options for that. While i use keypads and will probably continue to use them, we only use 1 button on ours for the most part and that's the goodnight/all off button. Everything else happens automatically or is voice controlled. Rarely do we physically touch buttons to turn anything on. I'm trying to get to a point where physical interaction is not necessary at all. With that said, I included caseta due to the cost of things. Not everyone can afford to or wants to pay the cost of Ra2 switches. On its own, I would never use or recommend caseta. However, throw the isy into the mix the dynamics change.
  11. I'd use Ra2 or caseta with polisy (depending on needs) before anything else. While no protocol is perfect, zwave and wifi are simply too limited for me. In real world use, they seem like toys for what my needs are
  12. For now. For those who do not need advanced capabilities the hub works just fine for linking as well
  13. It does for a limited number of devices (4 or 5). The downside is that the controller isn't aware of those device actions so you're limited in the options you have in regards to programming. Another thing is all devices has to support that ability which depending on setup, may not.
  14. Insteon doesn't need a controller. When you create a scene, those links reside in the devices. Disconnect your Isy, they'll still work. You'd lose your programs but multiway switches and stuff will still work
  15. I'm with you about zwave though my concerns are different. Though 500 and 700 series devices have mitagated many issues with zwave the major stuff still exists. For me, it's the popcorn effect, the need for a controller, how it handles direct links, and the inability to set large scenes.
  16. I do believe I said that I would stop when you stopped. You chose to keep going. Funny how you want to revert back to the original topic once called out on your stuff
  17. Exactly and thank you.
  18. What does that have to do with anything?
  19. Tell me what I've ever stated in any argument about the company where I've been wrong? Every counter argument that I've made, has come to fruition. Can't say that about any of your arguments. Everyone on here knows insteon reps are the worst since they sent it overseas. Unlike you, i have direct lines to them through personal relationships, I don't need to call their 800 number. Let's look at recent times. 1 person came here with an email stating the PLM was disco'd. I refuted that and explained the situation. Subsequently others posted emails contradicted what his said. I even went so far as to post recent stuff from them talking about their stock levels and what they're saying about the PLM. When it came to the new products, while everyone was stuck on what hasn't come out, how long have i said stuff was coming and what? When they finally announced things I gave more information than what I had been giving in the past since it was out in the open. When people asked their reps, they knew nothing about them but here i was talking about them. So let's break it down. You sit around at home with zero contacts and absolutely no information at all but when you think of some far off stuff, it's factual information. I come on here time after time refuting your made up fantasies and having what I say come to fruition but my stuff is propaganda? Of course I know more than what I say on here. Just like the people I know at insteon know more than what they're telling me. I share what they've said is ok to share so that I don't break their trust. With hat said, there are people here I've had offline conversations with about stuff over the years. As much as they may not like what I have to say, they'd admit to me providing factual information on here as well @Teken. Can you say the same?
  20. One thing I learned and kept with me from my days in the military was the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid)! Why? Because the more complicated you make something, invariably something will go wrong at the worse moment. For what the op wants, @MrBillexample can and will work without issues. Just like yours. The only thing I do different is separate my on programs from my off. That way I can easily test either state, and write other stuff in the future that will not impact the program. If he ever needs to troubleshoot, he knows exactly where to go. Your method requires a multitude of programs so when something goes wrong, where does he start? Not only do you have to create each variable, but you then have to create the program to trigger each variable, then you have to have each of the programs that actually need. Add those to all the other variables created for other stuff over the years and now a person is sitting on potentially hundred of variables and programs that the need to remember. Trying to use the amount of variables you use unnecessarily complicates things. It reminds me of those marble traps we built in physics, where the marble causes a chain reaction to pour a cup of water. Yeah, it worked but it was much simpler to simply pour the water yourself. WWith @MrBillmethod, double tap the away button and it triggers a single variable to start his vacation programs. When he comes home, he turns it off (or maybe door lock triggers it off) and it resets the variable stopping those programs from running. In, out, and over. Personally I've gotten away from worrying about a vacation mode. If the house is empty, everything triggers as if we're home for the dogs anyway. The only thing my vacation program adds is turning the TV's on and off, which if that doesn't happen so what. The less i have to remember to do when I'm leaving, the better.
  21. Not necessarily. While most don't make use of it overall and long term, there are many who either haven't gotten to that point or are still interested in starting out. Thats the beauty of mass market. There's always 1 more
  22. I'd go with magic home bulbs for your color changing needs and sonoff switches for automation. All are pretty cheap so you can automate without the cost.
  23. Sometimes, the inelegant solutions are the best solutions
  24. I don't think it's someone being lazy with their programming. I think for some people they recognize there is more than 1 way to accomplish something. Sometimes the simple solutions can work just as well (if not better) as the complex ones. It's about knowing when and where to use them. One way on here is easy to understand and troubleshoot by anyone while another is time consuming and easily forgotten about so when it is time to troubleshoot, you've wasted time just figuring out where to start... I just don't see how that's helpful to most people
  25. No. The Isy doesn't support ZigBee ha. Another thing is if it's not available in the us, there may be compatibility issues
