  1. Thank you very much for your help!!
  2. Thank you very much, yes a house full of Insteon devices. That seemed to fix things At least the door sensor worked. I did not have all of my battery devices in linking mode so I will have to test them. I read the thread about the eisy and will watch for preorder availability. thank you, eric.
  3. A few days ago I began having a problem with my system. Devices are not triggering programs. Initially All of my leak sensors failed to report a heartbeat. I replaced the battery on one and I triggered it, which in delayed fashion triggered my water Valve off connected via io link. I have since not had a leak sensor missed heart beat. When I open the back door at night the door sensor is supposed to turn the back lights on and this is not working. It’s not just battery devices, it’s all devices. The shower fan should turn off after 20 minutes, not working, and I have a KPL button I press in the morning that is supposed to run some programs. Timers are running with no issues and if I trigger a program thru the admin console it seems to work fine. Landscape lights turn on and off at the proper times. my thought is it’s the serial plm going bad, maybe it’s sending but not receiving. I have an older one that my father replaced some capacitors on and might work. what should I do to troubleshoot? Restore PLM? Swap it out and hope the refurbished one works. Unfortunately I had purchased a new plm but it was usb, they were actually already out of the serial ones. Upgrade to policy? running firmware 5.3.3, same UI. thank you, Eric.
  4. Thank you, upgrade complete. This started with my water pump notification and that is now working. I have a 12v relay that gets power when the pump turns on The relay triggers the sensor of an io linc which then sends notification that the pump is on. I appreciate your help!
  5. Thank you. I have a copy of programs based upon your previous advice, thank you very much. That is a great idea. Are default username and password admin/admin
  6. Hi, I Am on 4.8 for UI and firmware. I use insteon devices only, have portal but its deactivated. Which firmware should I upgrade to. The 5.3.0 release notes state that you must be on 5.0.9 or greater. I have updated Java and backed up ISY. Also what is the default Username and Password, admin for both? Thank you, Eric

    ISY Discontinued?

I have read thru a lot of the thread. I found this site which describes replacing 5 capacitors. The comments below as well as in the repair thread suggest to replace 7. https://1projectaweek.com/blog/2017/6/2/repairing-a-failed-insteon-powerlinc-power-line-modem-plm-2413u

    ISY Discontinued?

I thought I had a back up but do not. Going to try to repair my previous PLM which I saved. Is there any way to use the USB version with the ISY. I saw a comment somewhere that this was in the works. Thank you.
  9. Firmware 4.8, 6-26-2020. When we moved into our home 11 years ago it was full of X10 switches and keypads. After a couple of 3a all on events I looked for an alternative which got me started with Insteon. There are a few X10 devices left, but they are not integrated. I have one program to turn off an X10 basement light but not sure if that even works. I don’t have any adjust scenes. I used the more complicated route (easier for me) of creating several scenes for one fixture. Programs set each scene on at different times of the night. thank you for the tip about the programs Going to have to wait until I have more time to do the update. Reading update thread to troubleshoot ahead of time.
  10. Is there a reference I can check before upgrading. Definitely not on 5.
  11. I’ll have to check my version but know I have not updated in some time. I did a back up of ISY last night in anticipation of doing update. No z wave board. Thank you.
  12. Got the io link and 12v relay connected. Io linc is always on. Relay is plugged into the vacuum slave outlet along with a green lens landscape light. When the pump, which is connected to the red/black cord turns on, the relay is powered up, closes, turns on the sense of the io linc. The landscape green light also turns on. Tight fit in the medium socket box but this is a temporary set up. The dewenwills extension cord 6 outlet takes up too much space and the io linc was perpendicular, thus the mini extension cord. With that said my ISY is now not sending any notifications. This may have been going on for at least a couple of weeks since I know I had a low battery for a door sensor and didn’t get a notice. I didn’t investigate at that time. Going to be very busy for the next couple of weeks so limited time to trouble shoot. Tomorrow I’ll try a reboot of ISY to see if that helps. I have leak sensors, several door sensors with low battery alerts, a garage door sensor, and water valve sensor that all send notifications. These have been in place for more than a few years. thank you E
  13. I don’t currently have z wave but might consider this. I do have an extra io linc though and have a relay set up for my water valve. So that type of set up is easy for my. Just need a relay and power supply for it, which I probably have.
  14. Thank you for your reply. Makes sense. I did unplug a lamp Linc and then plug back in and it did go to prior state. Maybe a relay and io linc are the way to go here. io linc always on. 12v relay hooked up to slave connected to S of io linc.
  15. I want to know if a water pump that is activated by a float switch is on. The pump is an overflow pump in a rainwater collection tank. I have the pump plugged into an automatic vacuum switch. When the pump turns on it sends power to the slave outlet, into which I have a landscape light plugged in. The light turns on when the pump turns on. Automatic vacuum switch I plan to plug a lamplinc dimmer into the slave outlet and the landscape light into it. The lamplinc should return to an on state when it receives power when the pump turns on. Should the programming be “If responding” for the lamplinc. What about when the pump turns off and the power to the lamplinc goes off. I want a second alert to tell me the pump is off. I think I need a second program to check for the device not responding that is triggered by the first. Suggestions are appreciated.

    New Noise problem

I reset and restored the device. Working fine now. It is a dual band switch linc dimmer, v.41. I have not pulled the switch plate cover to check the date. It’s been working fine since yesterday incidentally the cleaning girl was here the day I noticed problems. She likes to disrupt things for me, like turning things off that she should not, presses lots of buttons. Thank you for your help.

    New Noise problem

Problem solved. I have two big panels with a sub panel off of one. I suspected the noise was coming from the panel that is with the sub. I had my daughter watch the flickering led lights on the switchlinc and turned breakers off and on one at a time but that didn’t reveal the problem. I said I would let her go from this boring task and try the other panel later. I then went around and pulled the air gap on the devices in common areas and unplugged lamp links. Did this one switch box at a time checking the flickering each time. I had already tried pulling the batteries on a couple of door sensors. The switch for the dining room chandelier was flickering a bit more than the others. When I pulled it’s air gap the flickering stopped. I pushed the air gap back in for all switches and left the chandelier for last. When I pushed that one back there was no flickering. I’ll check the age of this switch this weekend and probably just replace it even if it still looks ok. The KPLs that were misbehaving are now fine. I’m sure that the constant traffic is not good for my devices. I think I only reset one switchlinc by accident. In review if I had carefully checked each switch I might have noticed the flickering of the dining chandelier and fixed the problem sooner. Systematic troubleshooting is key. Thanks for reading.

    New Noise problem

Thank you for the reply. Most but not all of my devices are dual band. This is a new problem that popped up. The older 8 button KPL is now on the Fritz. Meaning when I pushed the air gap button in it just buzzes. I have not had a chance to reset and restore it yet. This is typical behavior I have seen with a failed switch. But with the air gap out I still have noise on my system and com issues. Some programs are triggering and executing fine and others are not. Like my foyer lamp plugged into dual band lamp line that did not turn on around sunset. But a low battery message for a leak sensor came thru at 6pm Will have to try to trouble shoot this on the weekend. If it is a device going bad I wish it would just quit working and identify itself.

    New Noise problem

Some more info. Problem persists. I had turned the 6button kpl back on but then I observed it reset itself. I have an older 8 button next to my vanity and it also seemed to reset itself. Both devices function properly when on, controlling loads. I do not think the devices themselves are bad but maybe misbehaving due to constant insteon traffic. Both are on the same sub panel, but I have not been able to identify the problem yet. Thank you.

    New Noise problem

Hi, I’ve not posted in a while. I came home late last night and found the lights on in one of our rooms. I approached the 6 button kpl for the lights and it reset itself. I pulled the air gap button and left it out. This morning I realized there were com problems. I can see flashing on some of my switchlincs and led lights that I see with insteon signals. Programs are triggering intermittently Nothing has changed in the House, nothing new plugged in. Possibly I have a bad cfl somewhere, I still have a few in the house. I checked the logs and do not see anything with a battery device sending off signals. Is it possible my plm is going bad, it’s at least a couple of years old. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  21. The isy seemed to,just be hung up. Everything is back to normal now. Thank you. Kind of miss my old house linc utility to check coms
  22. I disabled the study chandelier switch, but kept getting attempted writing to it. I pulled the air gap and then the writing stopped. The system appears to be working ok now. I’m still a little wary of the kpl, May swap it out.
  23. I’m on my third plm i think. I noticed yesterday that one of my programs did not trigger by a Kpl press, same thing this morning.. Some other issues today so I backed up my isy. The admin console was slow to open. I was initially able to see a log, but now I just get the blue spinning wheel. I tried to write an update to the kpl that did not trigger my program and I m not able to communicate. This is an old 8 button single band, but has worked flawlessly. I kept getting a system busy message and a box with an address (I think a study chandelier) and Don 1. I tried to query a lamp linc and have these messages could not open config file to read and Could not open file /config/insteng.opt. I was able to turn off our dining chandelier from the admin console, but not turn it back on. When I tried to query the chandelier I go request failed. I’m on firmware and UI 4.6.2. I think I have a back up plm. Should I replace it. I already powered down the isy and plm. We recently did some major renovations in the house. I reinstalled a lot of former devices, replaced some older ones with dual bands and added a few new ones. My system was working great. What more info do you need. What should I do. Thanks eric i shut hit down the admin console again and restarted. There is a pop up box with constant writing to the study chandelier, address DOF 0.
  24. Michel, my original installation was done a couple of years ago. The isy skill was not even listed under smart home, just along with the 3 other skills I had enabled. I have followed the instructions. Issue is that when I click enable on the v3screen, nothing happens. It never enables. Thank you, eric. Edit: I updated the Alexa app and was able to enable the skill.
  25. I’m following the wiki to get my Alexa running again. It had been unplugged for a while during our renovation. I’m not sure which version of the isy skill I was running, but think it was the first version. wiki link here. There may be a problems with the Alexa service https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY_Portal_Amazon_Echo_Integration_V3#Instructions_to_Enable_the_V3_Skill_in_the_Echo_App when I click enable on the Alexa app, nothing happens. I tried enabling another skill and that worked fine. Any advice would be appreciated.
